1 Nobeltec TimeZero & Furuno Radar Connection Checklist Description Follow this TechNote if you have any of these symptoms: - The Radar Tab (Radar WorkSpace) and Radar functions are not available - The Radar Tab is available but the radar echo does not appear Resolution 1) If the Radar WorkSpace is not available because there is no Radar Tab a. Check the Software Configuration Make sure that the Furuno Radar Plus Pack is correctly unlocked. To double check, start TimeZero and click on the Nobeltec button then choose About : Ensure that the Furuno Module is unlocked: If the Furuno Radar Module does not appear in the list, the Unlock Code Module must be inserted to properly configure the Plus Pack. Note: The Unlock Code can be entered manually by selecting Activate Module/Data from the Nobeltec Menu.

2 b. Check the computer IP and ping the radar. Note: TimeZero will ONLY display the Radar Tab (Radar WorkSpace) and Radar functions if a NavNet3D MFD or FAR2XX7 is detected when the software is launched. TimeZero will ONLY display the NavNet3D Route Synchronization features and Chart Server if a Navnet3D MFD is detected when the software is launched. The computer needs to have an IP address that matches the Furuno Network ( x.x) in order to exchange information with the Furuno Radar(s). It is highly recommended to use a fix IP address for the computer, especially if the computer stays on the boat at all time (fixed installation). Check the IP address: To check if the computer has a valid IP address, use the IPCONFIG command. Click on Start ; and then, choose Run. Type cmd and click on OK. Note: Under VISTA/7, click on Start and search for cmd to open the Command Editor: 2

3 Type ipconfig in the command editor. The 'ipconfig' tool shows a computer's TCP/IP configuration. It displays the IP address, the network subnet mask and the Internet/network gateway address if one is set for that network. Make sure also that the subnet Mask is The common IP address used for a PC on a Furuno Network is Note: If you have multiple computers, make sure they all have a different IP address (such as ) Follow the steps below if you need to setup or change the IP address of the computer: - Click on the Windows Logo on the bottom left and select Control Panel. - Switch to Classic View to display the full list of options. - Open Network and Sharing Center ; and then, click Manage network connection 3

4 - under the Tasks menu on the left side of the window to see the Local Area connection. Right click on the Local Area Connection corresponding to the Ethernet card where the NN3D is connected to and choose Properties. Note about DHCP and Router on a NavNet3D Network: Using a Router (with a DHCP server) is absolutely forbidden on a NavNet3D Network. The NavNet3D MFD set as a Master is already a DHCP server (and it would conflict with any other third party DHCP server). If the computer is set up to acquire an automatic IP address, the NavNet3D MFD set as a Master needs to be turned ON before the computer is connected to the network (or before the computer is turned ON if the Ethernet cable stays connected to the computer at all times). If the computer is connected to the network or turned ON prior NavNet, the computer will not acquire a valid IP address and the Ethernet connection must be repaired manually. To repair the connection, right click on the Local Area Connection corresponding to the Ethernet card where the NN3D is connected to and choose Repair : RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended to setup a fix IP address ( / ). This will avoid any problem if the computer is turned ON before the NN3D Master. Also, the NavNet3D DHCP server has been reported to not work with some Ethernet Card under Windows 7 (under investigation). In this case, you will have to assign manually a fix IP address to the computer (no other solution). 4

5 Note: The Furuno Radar 2XX7 does not have an integrated DHCP server. When connecting a computer to a Furuno 2XX7 radar, a fix IP address must be used. Ping the Radar: To check the connection between the computer and the Radar, you can ping the NN3D MFD set as Master or the 2XX7 radar. For NavNet3D, type in the command editor ping (this will try to ping the NavNet3D Master). For a 2XX7 radar, type in the command editor ping (this will ping the first 2XX7 radar on the network). If the result is Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), the communication with the Radar or MFD is OK. If the result is Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss) or if any error is returned, there is a problem with either the IP configuration or the cable. Ensure the IP address is correctly set-up and the correct cable is plugged into the network interface. If the computer is connected to a Hub, ensure that the green light is on and blinking on the corresponding Ethernet cable. 2) If the Radar Tab appears without radar echo or if External Demo appears in the Status Bar Prerequisite: First, check that the Radar is transmitting and there is a good radar picture showing on the NavNet3D MFD or 2XX7 Radar. Make also sure that the Radar is selected under Source of the Radar Button. Disable Firewall Under Windows XP: Open the Control Panel and choose Network Connection. Double click on the local area connection that corresponds to the Ethernet port that is connected to the Furuno network. Select the Advanced Tab ; and then, click on Settings. 5

6 Choose the Off checkbox. Under Windows VISTA or Windows 7: Open the control Panel and select Windows Firewall. Note: If Windows Firewall does not appear in the list, ensure that Classic View is selected on the left. Click on Turn Windows Firewall ON or OFF on the left side of the window. 6

7 Select OFF ; and then, click on Apply. Note: If another Firewall (Norton, for example), please refer to the manufacturers documentation for the procedure to turn it off. IMPORTANT NOTE: Instead of turning OFF the Firewall, you can add TimeZero to the list of trusted program that are allowed to pass through the firewall. Some anti-virus or spyware software can also prevent the Radar Echo packet from reaching the computer. It is recommended to temporarily turn OFF any anti-virus program to ascertain if this solves the problem. 7
