3 THE NETHERLANDS The Netherlands is a country in western Europe with a multicultural population of approximately 17 million people. It has a very rich history in international trade, education, art, literature, design and sciences. This tiny country is famous for the great Dutch Masters, painters like Rembrandt and Van Gogh. They transformed the world around them just like today s Masters: designers, concept developers, futurists. The Dutch creative industry of the 21st century is growing rapidly and plays a leading role in strengthening the innovative capacity of the country. The Netherlands strives to be the most creative economy in Europe by 2020.

4 TILBURG More than 27,000 students study in the city of Tilburg in the south of The Netherlands percent of this city s 200,000 inhabitants are students. Tilburg has a lot of cafés where you can enjoy student life. Students quickly find their favourite bars/pubs, restaurants and other meeting places. Catching a movie, enjoying the night life, a popconcert, visiting museums or going to the theatre: Tilburg offers a great number of possibilities.

5 FONTYS ACI We like to be entertained and the length of our lives increases. We seek new ways in which to improve our health and we constantly look for new ways to fill our free time. Fashion and looks are important to us; we prefer sustainable products and we like to play games using smart gadgets. This is why Fontys Academy for Creative Industries exists. We train people to create beautiful concepts, exciting concepts, touching concepts, concepts to improve our quality of life. We train them for an industry in which creativity is of the highest value to a product or service. We educate young people who feel at home in the (digital) world of entertainment and lifestyle, and understand that creativity can also mean business. Creativity can be marketed, it s as simple as that. Pieter Bon, dean Fontys Academy for Creative Industries, Tilburg Fontys Academy for Creative Industries (Fontys ACI) in Tilburg has 2,500 students. Fontys ACI is part of Fontys University of Applied Sciences. Fontys accommodates over 40,000 students and about 4,000 staff members, which makes it the largest university of applied sciences in the south of the Netherlands.

6 Summer School: Yearly in August international students can attend our Summer School. They can choose from various subjects in the field of creativity, business and languages. International Week: Once a year lecturers, staff members and directors from partner universities are invited to an International Week on our campus. During this week attendees gain insight into the creative industry, internationalization and strategic collaboration projects. The International Week is a platform for networking and sharing knowledge.

8 INTERNATIONAL EVENT, MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT STUDIES Commercial Economics Programme (BSc): Students of International Event, Music & Entertainment Studies focused on commercial economics (BSc) are trained to become marketing professionals specialized in selling creative concepts for the event, music and entertainment industries. They learn how to analyze the market using various methods, and how to market a product or service from creative sectors. They analyze, calculate and create ever refreshing, innovative marketing campaigns. International Event, Music & Entertainment Studies is categorized as a Bachelor of Science. Communication Programme (BA): Students of International Event, Music & Entertainment Studies focused on Communication (BA) are trained to become communication experts specialized in developing new, creative formats for the event, music and entertainment industries. Their creative formats result in higher viewer ratings for television shows and their communication campaigns attract more visitors to a festival. They learn to analyze target groups, to employ the right strategies and means of communication, and how to develop creative concepts. International Event, Music & Entertainment Studies is categorized as a Bachelor of Arts.

10 INTERNATIONAL LIFESTYLE STUDIES (BA) Lifestyle is all about the way in which people shape their lives: sports and exercise, health, food, leisure time, looks, fashion, home and personal environment. International Lifestyle Studies grant our students insight into the lifestyles of various groups of people within our society. They use this knowledge to create new lifestyle concepts that enhance the quality of these people s lives. The products and services designed by our students make people more energetic, healthier, more relaxed, happier or more confident. This study program combines future studies and concept development with the focus on the following six industries: health, food, human movement, leisure, appearance and living. This program leads to the degree of Bachelor of Arts (BA).

12 DIGITAL BUSINESS CONCEPTS (BSc) There is an endless stream of new, digital products that can make life even easier or more challenging. Some of them disappear quickly, others remain. On this fascinating, digital growth market, companies urgently need business administrators who are familiar with digital publishing. Those who study Digital Business Concepts with us, learn to create and develop innovative and profitable concepts for the internet in the course of their four-year bachelor program. This program leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science.

17 RESEARCH The research chair Creative Industries & Social Innovation focuses on the creative industry and the process of social innovation. The knowledge network emphases on sharing expertise and on embedding research in our academy. We re connecting creativity. The research chair Futures Research & Trend Watching focuses on research towards future social and technological developments. This encompasses more than examining trends. The knowledge network wishes to focus on using futures research within organizations and aims to expand and professionalize futures research at Fontys ACI.
