What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Projects, whether small or large, simple or complex, can be managed effectively through the application of key management processes and deployment of specific skills. Through real world case studies you are introduced to the principles, concepts and processes of project management and their application in both the business and public sectors. The course stresses that project management involves a range of interactive and iterative processes requiring the application of core management skills for successful project achievement. Product: Test Format: This Project Management basic knowledge test will be conducted under exam conditions during the Week 4 Lecture. The test will examine your comprehension and understanding of Project Management, terminology, principles, processes and practice as covered in the course to date. The format of the exam will include multiple choice questions and a single case study to which you apply Project Management theory. Criteria Demonstrate comprehension and understanding of Project Management, terminology, principles, processes and practice as covered in the course to date. Evidence of appropriate application of relevant Project Management theory to case study context. 4 Page 4 Goal: Product: Format Criteria To demonstrate an understanding of the practical application of project management planning. Project Plan This is a group assessment. In this task you will, in response to a Request For Proposal (RFP), form a Project Team to negotiate with your Client (Tutor), create a Project Charter and subsequently supply your Client with a Project Plan. The project will be based on a hypothetical case study provided by the Course Coordinator. This project should be done as a group with a maximum of five per group, unless otherwise agreed to by the Course Coordinator. All group members must be within a single tutorial as time will be allocated for team meetings at certain tutorials. A schedule outlining key tasks and milestones for the completion of Task 2 will be provided on the MGT210 Blackboard site. Note: A single mark will be given to all team members. In the case of team member contribution disputes, the Course Coordinator may require evidence of individual contribution to the Project Plan to ascertain if the assignment of differing marks to individual team members is warranted (please keep evidence of your contribution to sections of the plan and hours involved). Assessment Criteria for Project Plan Section Guide for students In response to the Request For Proposal (RFP) negotiate a clear understanding of the project and its requirements, in the form of a Project Charter, with the Client Based on the agreement between the Client and the Project Manager in the Project Charter create a Project Plan for the Client. appropriate usage of Project Charter Template provided\ reflects all requirements as per RFP and client communications negotiations with client professionally conducted based on Project Plan Template provided Ensure you use PM terminology. Ensure it aligns with Client Project Charter. Must be well written, clear and not subject to dual meanings. Project Plan elements must be integrated. 5 Page 5 Goal: Product: Format: Criteria To demonstrate an understanding of contemporary research into project management issues. Project Management Literature Research Project. This is an individual assessment in two parts: Task 3a - A 1,500 word (max) literature review paper (week 13) on your selected aspect of contemporary project management theory and practice. Task 3b - A 3 minute presentation (week 11 or 12 tutorial) on the major findings from the literature review undertaken. Assessment Criteria for Literature Review Paper and Presentation Section Task 3a - Based on your research into a contemporary project management issue/concept, create a literature review paper covering theoretical and applied perspectives Task 3b - Based on your literature review paper prepare and deliver a 3 minute presentation Guide for students Base format on template provided Ensure use of correct PM terminology Ensure coverage of both theoretical and applied perspectives Must be academically well written Contain a minimum of 10 academic and 5 nonacademic reference sources (2010 or later) Differing perspectives on issues should be identified and critically analysed Quality presentation materials Professional delivery of relevant content Audience engagement Generic skill assessed Problem solving Communication Skill assessment level 5.3 Additional assessment requirements SafeAssign In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks are submitted electronically via Safe Assign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that Safe Assign has access to. If required, details of how to submit via Safe Assign will be provided on the Blackboard site of the course. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task.
