2 Graduation Requirements Have Changed There are two main purposes of the changes: 1. Reduce the number of state end-of-course assessments required for high school students to graduate. 2. Allow high school students greater flexibility in choosing their courses while maintaining academic rigor.

3 EOC Tests The following five EOC tests are now required for graduation: English I (Reading and Writing) 9 th Grade English II (Reading and Writing) 10 th Grade Algebra I 8 th or 9 th Grade Biology 9 th Grade US History 10 th Grade

4 WHAT IS THE NEW GRADUATION PLAN? Every student will have: Foundation High School Program (22 credits) + Endorsement (4 credits) = Graduation (26 total credits)

5 What is the Foundation High School Program FHSP is a 22 credit plan Remember that each semester is half of a credit, so 1 year in a course earns you 1 credit.

6 What is required in the 22 credit FHSP? Core Classes (13 total credits): English 4 credits English I, II, III, and an advanced English Math 3 credits Algebra I, Geometry, and an advanced math Science 3 credits Biology, IPC or an advanced science, and an additional advanced science Social Studies 3 credits US History, ½ credit government, ½ credit economics, and either world history or world geography, or a new course combining world history and world geography (to be developed)

7 Other requirements Other classes (9 total credits): LOTE 2 credits Credits must be in the same language. Fine Arts 1 credit Physical Education 1 credit Electives 5 credits including.5 credit Speech.5 credit Health

8 Endorsements Endorsement Classes (4 total classes): Math 1 credit Science 1 credit Endorsement Elective 2 credits.

9 What are the 5 endorsement areas? 1. STEM Science, Technology-including computer science, Engineering, and advanced Math) 2. Public Services Health science and occupations, education, law enforcement, culinary arts, hospitality 3. Business and Industry Information technology, database management, marketing, accounting, finance, graphic design, construction, welding, automotive technology, and agriculture 4. Arts and Humanities Political science, literature, world languages, cultural studies, history, and fine arts 5. Multidisciplinary Studies This endorsement provides students the opportunity to take a variety of courses from each of the other four endorsement areas. **Endorsements can be changed at any time.

10 Distinguished Level of Achievement To be considered in the top 10%, the following must be completed: 1. A 4 th math credit (including Algebra II) 2. A 4 th science credit 3. All the requirements of at least one endorsement

11 So where do I start? In the 9 th grade, you will choose 7 classes: Core Classes (4 classes/credits): English English I - Academic, Pre-AP, or GT Math Algebra1, Geometry, or Algebra II Science Biology Academic, Pre-AP, or GT Social Studies World Geography - Academic, Pre-AP, or GT World Geography or World History Required An elective may be substituted for World Geography

12 Other 9 th grade classes You will then choose 3 electives, such as: Foreign Language (2 credits needed) French 1, German 1, Spanish 1 or 2, *Japanese 1, Latin 1, Chinese 1 * Possibly only offered after school

13 Other 9 th grade classes PE/Athletics (1 credit needed) Individual and Team Sports A specific sport If you plan on doing more than 1 sport, choose the sport that begins first

14 Other 9 th grade classes Fine Arts (1 credit needed) Color guard (spring sem. Only) Marching band (PE-fall, F.A.-spring) Band (1 year F.A. credit; choose if in athletics) Orchestra Choir Theater Art 1 or 2 (ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpting) Dance Team Training
