Practical visibility and introduction of entrepreneurship in schools and training programs 3. 5 Pertti Vuorela Culminatum Innovation Oy Ltd Helsinki-Uusimaa Region Entrepreneurial Environment The Region s entrepreneurship support throughout the business growth life cycle consists of the entrepreneurial environment of the Region, which include the infrastructure, the organizations operating in the field of entrepreneurship & business growth, development services and other support in different phases, the tools used, and all the organizations and the partner network operating according to the principle of Private-Public Partnering. This presentation is about opportunities for the SMEs to grow in the EER 2012 Helsinki-Uusimaa Region and based on the presentations of Entrepreneurship Excellence and the Otaniemi Innovation Model by Pertti Vuorela.

6 Helsinki-Uusimaa Region entrepreneurship excellence - support at each critical level of the business growth cycle Some key actors and developers of new actions in this support model are: Aalto Entrepreneurial University and the Aalto Entrepreneurship Society strive to create an entrepreneurial eco-system in the Aalto University. This Student-run growth entrepreneurship catalyst aims at activating students, bringing together and helping students to find and create ideas, form teams, learn, create startups and successful companies. Aalto University and Aalto Entrepreneurship Society Societal interaction & Social Impact Multidisciplinary Laurea University of Applied Sciences with the Spinno Enterprise Center incubator offer services for entrepreneurs and companies. To develop entrepreneurship Laurea will organize a seminar Incubation after 2012 and to boost academic entrepreneurship Metropolitan Boot Camps in European cooperation with Cambridge. Laurea University of Applied Sciences > Helsinki Metropolitan Entrepreneurship Academy is to enhance the Entrepreneurial Spirit amongst students and in general, via inspirational and practical educational events & programs. Spinno Enterprise Center Regional development company Culminatum Innovation and the Centre of Expertise Programme organize 2011/2012 Industrial policy events and cluster cooperation events. The Centres of Expertise look for active participation in European projects. Innovation Strategy, Helsinki Metropolitan and Competitiveness Strategy for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. 8 Helsinki-Uusimaa Region support at each critical level of the business growth cycle The Entrepreneurship support model covers all the themes of entrepreneurial activation, entrepreneurial commitment and co-operation and entrepreneurial excellence. The activities in the run-up to the EER year and in the EER year itself: The regional action plan for the European Entrepreneurial year 2011/2012 includes the implementation and further development of the regional model on the basis of the best practical examples of the entrepreneurial excellence identified in the Region. The entrepreneurial environment, organizations, development services and support in different phases are continuously updated and presentation material will be developed. The model is open also for foreign entrepreneurs and small businesses, and the advisory services concept for foreigners will be developed in the NoWrongDoor project The Region will describe examples of entrepreneurial excellence and is ready to share these good practices with other European regions. The targeted activities and new openings, scheduled for the EER year 2012, are described in the European Entrepreneurial Year 2012 events Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is awarded the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) label for the year 2012.

Organized jointly with five Life Science Graduate Schools of Helsinki University. Three times during the project: Autumn 2009, Spring 2010, Autumn Forming a PhD-company pair 3. Salary support: for companies recruiting unemployed job seekers 4. Advanced training for the employed PhD Target region: the Helsinki region and Eastern Uusimaa
