3 FACULTY Andrew Mikell, Esq. Andy was engaged in the private practice of law for 13 years before becoming State Manager and Title Counsel at Vermont Attorneys Title Corporation in He graduated from Williams College and obtained his law degree at Vermont Law School. He is chair of the Vermont Bar Association s Title Standards subcommittee and is past chair of the VBA Real Property Law Committee. Andy has presented at dozens of professional seminars on real property issues and he is always active in current legislative issues affecting the marketability of title. He also taught business law and paralegal courses at Champlain College for eight years. Andy lives with his family in Williston where he is a former member of the selectboard and school board. Michael Kennedy, Esq. Michael graduated from South Burlington High School, the University of Vermont, and the George Washington University Law School. He clerked in the Office of the Chittenden County State s Attorney and then worked for five years as an Assistant Attorney General before accepting the position of Deputy Disciplinary Counsel in Michael was promoted to Disciplinary Counsel in In 2012, he was named Bar Counsel, changing his focus from investigating & prosecuting disciplinary cases to providing guidance for lawyers with ethics questions. Michael currently sits on the Vermont Bar Association s Board of Managers and is a former member of the Board of Bar Examiners. He is an avid marathoner and has been the head coach of the varsity boys basketball team at South Burlington High School since Amy Carmola. Amy is the Director of Community Impact & Volunteer Mobilization. She joined the United Way in 2003 as an outcomes evaluation consultant, providing training and technical assistance to UWCC partner agencies to help them evaluate the beneficial outcomes of their programs. Over the next several years, Amy helped develop and implement the United Way's Community Impact Plan, using the Results Based Accountability framework. She became the Director of Community Impact & Volunteer Mobilization in 2012, and in this role she works with UW staff, volunteers, and community partners to strategically align the investment of resources including program funding, volunteer mobilization, strategic initiatives to achieve maximum impact and address community-defined priorities in the areas of Education, Income, & Health. Amy received her doctoral degree in General/Experimental Psychology from the University of Vermont, where she taught child development and worked with the Community Leadership Project, a collaborative effort between the University of Vermont, Burlington city government, community agencies, and local residents.

4 David Casier, Esq. David graduated from St. Lawrence University with Bachelor of Arts in History and English in 1981 and from Vermont Law School with a Juris Doctorate in He has practiced law in Vermont since David is a sole-practitioner with a general practice, which includes criminal law cases ranging from simple assault to first degree murder. He has also been an adjunct professor at Champlain College since In that role, he designed and taught the Civil and Criminal Litigation courses and also taught bankruptcy, evidence and business law. David has had two published opinions: State v. Samuel Hudson, 163 Vt. 316 and State v. Brooks, 177 Vt Robert Grande, cicayda Business Development Executive. Robert is the Director of Business Development for cicayda, a full service litigation support software and service company offering ediscovery apps and services for Big Data and intelligent litigation. Prior to joining cicayda, Robert held numerous leadership roles for both local and national litigation support providers. James W. Spink, Esq., Jim joined the law firm of Sheehey Furlong & Behm P.C. in 2011, and he is a principal of the firm. He is a seasoned trial lawyer with 33 years of experience and has tried in excess of 125 cases to verdict. His areas of focus include chemical exposure and complex tort claims, transportation cases and catastrophic personal injury claims. Although he maintains an active litigation practice, Jim s current professional activity is devoted to mediations and arbitrations. Jim is recognized in the peer reviewed publication The Best Lawyers in America and was named 2011 Lawyer of the Year for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Burlington, Vermont. He is also recognized by Chambers USA. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Civil Trial Mediators and is a member of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals. Kerin Stackpole, Esq., SPHR. Kerin is a Director at Paul Frank + Collins P.C., where her practice areas include employment law, business counseling and general civil litigation. She is admitted to practice law in Vermont, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Kerin is an honors graduate of the Washington College of Law, American University and of Wheaton College, Norton, Massachusetts. Kerin practiced law in Washington, D.C., concentrating in employment and business law. She has been involved in litigation on a wide range of employment and business law issues. In addition to practicing law, Kerin has taught at the law schools of Catholic University of America, The American University, as well as at the University of Vermont and Champlain College. She regularly designs and presents training programs for businesses and management personnel on employment law issues. Kerin was the Chair of the Employment Law Section of the Vermont Bar Association from 2000 until She received her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources in Kerin has been recognized as one of Vermont s top labor and employment attorneys by Chambers & Partners (USA); she was also recognized by her peers for achievement in employment and labor law by Best Lawyers of America.

5 Laura Bierley, Esq. Laura is an attorney with Legal Services Law Line of Vermont. She helps low-income Vermonters represent themselves in cases involving family, housing, and consumer law. She is committed to the goal of providing all Vermonters access to the courts, regardless of their economic, educational, social or cultural background.
