1 UNDERSTANDING Power This section provides a detailed overview of the three available choices to power motorized window coverings. Features of each system are explained to provide guidance in selecting your ideal solution. Battery/WireFree Power Plug-in Power In-Wall Wired Power 25

2 WireFree Power No wires to conceal No need for an electrician Patented technology extends battery life Motor is powered by lithium batteries Perfect for situations where access to electrical wiring is not possible such as: skylights, French doors etc. Great solution for smaller size window coverings Ideal for projects with a small number of motorized window coverings Provides for simplified battery replacement with products that allow for users to replace batteries with standard lithium batteries. Single 12 V Reloadable Battery Tube for 8 AA lithium batteries (batteries not included) The reloadable battery tube features a screw off cap that allows for simplified battery replacement without having to purchase a new wand. 8 AA lithium batteries must be used and can be purchased through local retailers. 12 V Reloadable Battery Tube Part # AA Lithium Battery Pack Part # Dual 12 V Reloadable Battery Tube Option (batteries not included) The dual reloadable battery tube features two single reloadable battery tubes joined together with a cable and harness and uses a total of 16 AA lithium batteries. Dual battery tubes offer the opportunity to extend the battery life therefore reducing the frequency of battery replacement. 12 V Reloadable Battery Tube Part # (qty. 2 required) Dual 12 V Reloadable Battery Tube Harness Part # AA Lithium Battery Pack Part # (requires 2 packs) WireFree Solar Pack The new WireFree Solar Pack harnesses renewable solar energy to power WireFree motorized window coverings. The solar panel is mounted on the inside of the window facing outward. It then collects energy from the sun and converts sun energy to electrical energy and charges the battery within the battery tube connected via the Y harness. The battery then powers any motorized window covering using a WireFree motor. 3 Battery tubes provide flexible installation options and can adapt to project needs: Horizontally above motor (Fig. 1) Horizontally attached to inside of header above motor (Fig. 2) Horizontally behind the headrail (Fig. 3) Horizontally in front of the headrail (Fig. 4) Vertically along the window (Fig. 5) Battery clips are provided to secure battery tube to the wall, trim or headrail depending on project needs. TIP: Battery extension cables are available for installations that require a longer cable in order to conceal the battery tube. Additionally, extension cables provide easier access to the battery tubes used in hard-toreach window coverings. See power accessories in the Product Specification section. All Battery (WireFree ) motors can easily be converted into a plugin motor. Refer to Plug-In Power Section for installation examples. 27

4 Plug-in Power Plug-in motors are available in either low voltage (DC) or high voltage (AC) versions depending on the application needs. Simplified maintenance-free operation Simply plugs into standard wall electrical outlets Wire has to be concealed Electrician may be needed. If existing electrical outlets are in the proper location, the system simply plugs in; otherwise an electrician will be needed for additional receptacle placement. AC Plug-in Motors Plug-in versions simply plug directly into a standard outlet. DC Plug-in Motors DC Plug-in motors require a transformer, similar to a laptop or cell phone charger. The transformer then simply plugs into the wall. NOTE: All battery (WireFree ) motors can be converted into a plug-in motor. 6 In-Wall Wired Power In-Wall Wired motors are available in either low voltage (DC) or high voltage (AC) versions depending on the application needs. 7 The Somfy Power Panel is used in those installations that have existing low voltage wiring. Simply connect 12 or 24V DC power to the panel and attach the Somfy low voltage motor to the existing wiring. The existing wiring would then connect to the power panel. The power LEDs will light when power is connected. If one connector does not have an LED lit, the fuse should be replaced. 18 Gauge 2 conductor 150 ft.
