5 One day Mother Bear wrote a letter to Uncle Bear. Where is Uncle Bear? asked Kevin. He lives in America, said Mother Bear. Do the Black Bears in America like Chinese yo-yo and Kung Fu? asked Kevin. I think the bears in America like many different things, said Mother Bear.
6 Kevin was confused. All the deer, monkeys and birds in Taiwan liked Chinese yo-yo and Kung Fu. What do bears in America like? He decided to find out.
7 Kevin went to America to find Uncle Bear. First he looked for Uncle Bear in Florida. In Florida, Kevin met Jenn. She was very tall with long pointy teeth and green scales. Hello! My name is Kevin. What kind of animal are you? I m an alligator. Look at my beautiful green skin! said Jenn.
8 Do you like Chinese yo-yo? asked Kevin. Chinese yo-yo? What is that? I like to go surfing and diving. I love the beach! said Jenn.
9 Kevin liked the beach. But he didn t like sun burns. Kevin decided to keep looking for Uncle Bear. Where is Minnesota? asked Kevin. Walk north until it gets very cold, said Jenn. She dived into the water and swam away.
10 In Minnesota, Kevin met Danimal. Danimal had pointy ears, four long legs and a big nose! Hello! My name is Kevin. What kind of animal are you? I am a Moose! said Danimal in a very loud voice.
11 You re so big! You must be very good at Kung Fu! said Kevin. Kung Fu? What is that? I like to swim in Minnesota s lakes! said Danimal. Kevin thought it was too cold to swim. He decided to keep looking for his Uncle Bear. Where is Virginia? asked Kevin. Walk East and cross many mountains, said Danimal.
12 Kevin walked very far. He saw green trees, beautiful flowers, and a new friend named Lauren. Hi! My name is Kevin. What kind of animal are you? I am a fox! said Lauren proudly.
13 Do you like Chinese yo-yo? asked Kevin. I like to search for berries, hunt for snakes, and pick apples! said Lauren. Kevin and Lauren picked apples together. Kevin ate all of the apples until he was very full. Then, he decided to keep looking for his Uncle Bear. Where is New York City? asked Kevin. Walk North until it is very noisy and you see lots of lights. said Lauren.
14 Kevin walked along the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. In New Jersey he ate hot dogs, French fries cotton candy, ice cream, pizza and he learned new dances.
15 He walked north and heard many cars and people yelling. New York City did not look like a good place for a bear.
16 Kevin met a new friend, Elaine. Hi! My name is Kevin. What kind of animal are you? I am an alley cat! said Elaine.
17 You are very quick. You must be good at Kung Fu! said Kevin. Kung Fu? What s that? I like to dig through garbage to find food! I also like to hunt mice and rats! said Elaine. Kevin felt sick. He decided it was time to look for his Uncle Bear. Where is California? asked Kevin You have to walk very far, said Elaine.
18 In California Kevin saw mountains, the ocean, very big trees and a new friend named Ari. Hi! My name is Kevin. What kind of animal are you? I am a Kingfisher bird! said Ari. He had beautiful, bright feathers and liked to sing. Ari sat on Kevin s shoulder and sang him a song.
19 I love to catch fish! said Ari. I love to catch fish, too! said Kevin. Ari was a small bird, and Kevin was a big bear. But they had lots to talk about. My friend Uncle Bear likes to fish, too, said Ari. He is a bear just like you! Uncle Bear came out of the woods and gave Kevin a great big bear hug!
20 Where did you go? asked Uncle Bear. I made new friends! said Kevin. My friend Jenn is an alligator Danimal is a moose Lauren is a fox Elaine is an alley cat and my friend Ari is a Kingfisher bird!
21 Kevin now knew lots of different animals who liked lots of different things! You can learn a lot from new friends, said Uncle Bear. That night, Kevin taught Ari how to play Chinese yo-yo. Ari taught Kevin songs about California.
22 When Kevin went home to Yushan Park, he taught songs about California to the monkeys, the deer, and the birds. He told stories about the mountains, the ocean, and the food in America. The next year Ari went to Taiwan to visit Kevin and learn all about Taiwan.
