Ensure the learners understand what camping means. According to pg. 37 of the CAPS for Grade R English Home Language Listening and Speaking, the learners should listen to a story and sequence the pictures of the story. The educator can first have a class discussion with the learners about whether they have ever been camping. If they have never been camping the educator can explain what camping is and show the learners some pictures of people camping. The educator will read the learners the story about the family camping trip. The educator can ask the learners questions about the story to check the learner s understanding: - Where will the family sleep when they are camping? They will sleep in sleeping bags inside the tent. - What did the family collect to make a fire? They collected wood to make the fire. - What treat did they toast on the fire? They toasted marshmallows on the fire. The learners will number the pictures in the correct order according to the story. The learners can draw a picture to show their understanding of camping.
