2 YOUTH NETWORK GRANTS 2016 About Youth Network Grants The Youth Network Grants support the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion s (DCSI) vision Communities for all: Opportunities for everyone. DCSI is adopting an integrated regional approach as a key strategy to achieve its vision. This approach will enable the department to identify high priority population groups and locations across the state, assisting it to strategically match funding, grants and services to areas of high need. Youth Network Grants aim to increase the capacity of the youth sector by supporting youth networks to: collaborate, share and disseminate information identify and respond to the needs of young people in the community up-skill network members. Funding Each network can apply for a one-off grant of up to $5,000 to support youth networks with their core function and to undertake additional initiatives that build the capacity of the youth sector to deliver better outcomes and services for the community in which they operate. The Youth Network Grants are for a term of one year and are non-recurrent. Successful grant applicants will be required to undertake an analysis of issues affecting young people in their area and how the issues are being, or will be addressed through strategies, policies and programs and report on this information at the conclusion of the funding period. Core Funding Activities (can include, but are not limited to): an analysis of issues affecting young people (mandatory requirement) establishment of a Youth Network venue hire travel for regional members printing advertising guest speaker honorariums and professional memberships Youth Network Grants - Guidelines

3 Additional initiatives that can be funded: the development of a resource (information cards, websites other printed or electronic information, etc.) professional development for network members to increase the level of support provided to young people; or group training for network affiliated organisations (counseling, conflict resolution and grant application writing etc) What are the expected outcomes? It is expected that all initiatives will increase youth sector capacity to identify and respond to the needs of young people in the community in which each network operates. Who is eligible? To be eligible for a Youth Network Grant, applicants must: be incorporated not-for-profit community organisations, or must apply under the auspice of an incorporated body that accepts responsibility for the funded activity such as local councils, state government agencies or community organisations have active involvement by a minimum of: o three different organisations or bodies in regional areas, or o five different organisations or bodies in the metropolitan area have member organisations which belong to the youth network and must have a proven history of working with young people aged years living in South Australia meet legal, child protection and insurance requirements set by State and Commonwealth legislation have successfully acquitted any previous Office for Youth grants. Exclusions The following are not eligible for funding through Youth Network Grants: initiatives that have already occurred or are pre-existing (i.e. deficit budgets, retrospective funding) major capital items projects that generate commercial and competitive income or profit curriculum based school projects Youth Network Grants - Guidelines

4 study placements activities, services or initiatives directly for young people activities that fulfill the minimum legal requirements of the network members (e.g First Aid Training or Child Safe Environments training) programs or services that are the responsibility of other agencies Salaries. 5 Assessment of applications Table 2: Assessment Criteria Criteria Community need: Rationale for why this activity is needed to support young people in the community. Weighting 35% Capacity building: Effectiveness of proposal to increase the capacity of the network to support young people in the community. Partnerships and value for money: applicants have secured inkind support to deliver value for money activities that maximise access in the community. 35% 30% Recommendations of applications The Executive Director, Policy and Community Development, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion will be advised of the assessment panel s recommendations and will give final approval on the Youth Network Grants to be funded. What are my obligations if I am successful? Successful applicants will be required to: enter into a Funding Agreement with the Office for Youth, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion acknowledge the Government of South Australia, Office for Youth in all promotional and publicity materials for the project. expend all funds in accordance with the Funding Agreement by May 2017 provide a final report, financial acquittal and return any unexpended funds to the Office for Youth by 30 June Youth Network Grants - Guidelines
