1 How to insert/replace the SIM card Material needed: 1 turn screwdriver (PH1-type) 1 small pliers (see picture 1E) 1 stage Loosen and remove the 6 screws (V1 code) to remove the rear cover. 1 stage Disconnect connector and flat cable from current sensor card. 1 stage Remove the current sensor card from its seat. 1D stage Now it is possible to freely access the slot to insert the SIM card. SmartI II_Manuale installazione_v 2.0_G_ap.doc Page 3

1E stage 1F stage Insert the SIM card into its slot, with the circuit upwards and the reference notch in front (use small pliers to do it). To lock the SIM card push it towards the bottom, until it locks. When the card is properly inserted, it should protrude approx. 2 mm from its slot. To remove the SIM card, push it again towards the bottom in order to unlock it. On exerting a pressure, the mechanical lock is enabled or disabled. heck that the SIM card has been inserted correctly into its slot. 1G stage Place the current sensor card into its seat again, and connect it again to the flat cable and connector. 1H stage lose the rear cover by tightening the 6 screws previously removed (V1 code). 18 6 ntenna installation Needed material: - wrench no. 8 - locking clamps 6 stage Identify the antenna connector on the back of Smart.I II. 6 stage Screw the antenna connector on the back of Smart.I II. Tighten slightly the connector by means of a wrench no stage Place the antenna on the forklift truck, on a ferrous part, preferably on an area not screened by metal parts. The antenna base is made up of a magnet, which makes the antenna positioning easier. SmartI II_Manuale installazione_v 2.0_G_ap.doc Page 18

6E stage Tenter the antenna cable along battery cables. Secure the antenna cable by means of locking clamps, avoiding to put it under traction on the Smart.I II connector. (Leave a generous antenna cable length between connector and first locking clamp). Sometimes it s advisable to wrap the antenna cable onto a battery cable by means of a tape. Note: make sure that the antenna cable, once placed in its position, is not damaged by the closing body or any other mechanical component of the forklift truck. 20 7 Programming Once installed, the SmartI II needs to get some information to work properly. To this end connect a P, equipped with the SmartViewII program for Windows, through an infrared port. 7.1 Preparation onnect the infrared adapter to the P (P160 adapter to an RS232 port or P160UIR adapter to an US 1 port) Start the SmartViewII program Insert the Password level 2 Press the onnect push-button 7.2 Date and time setting Select the Programming T Press the Set clock 2 pushbutton Select the Monitor T and check data shown in the date/time box for correctness. 7.3 Setting of operating parameters Operating parameters allow SmartI II for properly collecting data during operation, therefore they need to be set very carefully. For further details, please refer to the user manual of the SmartViewII program. 1 The P160UIR device needs to be installed in advance through a driver for Windows 2 Through this step, P date and time are transferred to SmartI II: check that date inside the P is set correctly. To be sure that the transfer has been performed properly, press the Reread data from Smart.I pushbutton, and check that the loaded parameters coincide with the desired data. NOTE: operating parameters can be set in advance in laboratory, if all parameters are known. NOTE: if you are programming a S2 GPRS device, it is possible to perform the above-mentioned steps via WE, enabling the GPRS connection through SmartService. If this is the case, you only need a P with WE access and you don t either need any infrared adapter or a SmartView program. The S2 GPRS device needs to be equipped with a SIM card and needs to have GPRS connection parameters already programmed. SmartI II_Manuale installazione_v 2.0_G_ap.doc Page 21

7.4 Programming of associations ssociations are memory parameters which working cycles and diagrams collected by the Smart.I devices during operation refer to. When cycles and diagrams are downloaded onto a P, they can be identified and selected thanks to such parameters. Therefore the above-mentioned parameters too have to be set very carefully. NOTE: associations are optional parameters, with no ties as for their setting. However it is advisable to set them choosing very carefully names and codes to be used, avoiding at the same time that different SmartI II devices feature the same parameters. For further details please refer to the user manual of the SmartViewII program. SmartViewII: programming of associations Select the ssociations T Fill in following fields: ustomer Dealer User attery ID Forklift truck ID Text identifying a customer Text identifying a dealer Text identifying a user Text identifying a battery serial number Text identifying a forklift truck serial number Press the Send data pushbutton and check whether a new line with the loaded parameters appears in the table below. 23 NOTE: operating parameters can be set in advance in laboratory, if all parameters are known. NOTE: if you are programming a S2 GPRS device, it is possible to perform the above-mentioned steps via WE, enabling the GPRS connection through SmartService. If this is the case, you only need a P with WE access and you do not either need any infrared adapter or a SmartView program. The S2 GPRS device needs to be equipped with a SIM card and GPRS connection parameters need to be already programmed. SmartI II_Manuale installazione_v 2.0_G_ap.doc Page 23

8 lignment To have a fully operational SmartI II and allow it for collecting and later supplying all the data, it is necessary to supply information on the actual battery charge state to it. This procedure is called LIGNMENT and needs to be performed only once after connecting the device to the battery. During operation the device remains aligned and measures and counts the incoming and outgoing battery charge. The alignment procedure consists in performing a complete traditional charge, that is: the battery voltage reaches the value indicated by the Threshold voltage parameter (default: 2.4V/cell) in the programming parameters after reaching that threshold voltage the charging process goes on for a time not shorter than the Final charge time (default: 2h) shown in the programming parameters Once the alignment procedure is over, all the LED s in the synoptic panel will light up, showing that battery is full. It is advisable to perform the alignment with a battery not fully charged. IMPORTNT: performing the alignment is usually very easy: you only need to perform a charging process using a standard traditional charger. However the charging process sometimes does not occur under the above-mentioned conditions. This may be due to different causes, among which: the battery is already full and the battery charger performs too a short charge the battery voltage does not reach the set threshold voltage (this happens with gel batteries) the battery charger features a special characteristic In these cases the values of the Threshold voltage and/or Final charge time parameters can be changed, reducing them in order to make the alignment easier. NOTE: as long as the SmartI II has not been aligned: the red LED showing an empty battery will blink on the synoptic panel with SmartView: the Monitor T shows h alignment not performed instead of the battery charge state the OLD data T shows the message h alignment not performed instead of the cycle graphic representation references to the battery charge state are missing somewhere else Even if the SmartI II has not been aligned all the physical quantities measured during the charging cycle (voltages, currents, temperatures, times) and graphs are shown. NOTE: the alignment procedure needs to be repeated if power supply to SmartI II is interrupted. SmartI II_Manuale installazione_v 2.0_G_ap.doc Page 24
