This trip will focus on Paul s teachings as well as his journeys. There will also be an indepth study on the seven messages contained in Revelation chapters 2 & 3. We will be traveling in 12 days what Paul did in 3 years; so we will be moving around frequently. We will learn about Paul and John in the context of Greek and Roman culture, and we will include historical and background information where appropriate. Our lodgings are beautiful 4 and 5 star accommodations throughout our tour according to Turkish standards. In Greece, you will have a chance to see the ancient Acropolis, walk across the Corinth Canal, and for those who are able bodied hike up to Agro Corinth. Our day ends with a wonderful farewell dinner overlooking the lights of the Acropolis. In Turkey, you will visit ALL 7 churches of Revelation, visit ancient Troy, cruise the Bosporus and Dardanelles, and shop in the ancient Grand Bazaars and Spice Markets. Plus for those who are interested and have the time we have an exciting Tour Option planned to Cappadocia, where you will sleep in a deluxe cave hotel. This region is known for its ancient fairy chimneys. The early Christians lived here when they had to live underground in these ancient cities, all of which you will visit! You can even enjoy an optional EARLY MORNING HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE above the fairy chimneys! We hope you will come and join us! 3 Journeys of St Paul & John in Greece & Turkey Sep 21- Oct 3, 2015-plus Cappadocia Option Hosted by Dr. Warren Gage and Dr. Tom Hendrikse Day 1: Monday Sep 21 Depart Miami Day 2: - Tuesday Sep 22- Athens Arrive Athens midafternoon, in time for a nice shower, relaxing dinner and a great nice rest before our fresh start in the morning to enjoy Athens. Dinner at Hotel: Divani Acropolis. Day 3: -Wednesday Sep 23- Athens This morning we visit the Acropolis, and Parthenon before viewing Athens atop Mars Hill where Paul stood and preached the truth to the Gentile nation. Additional sites include the Agora (ancient market place and center of Athenian public life). Then on to the New Acropolis Museum located at the base of the Acropolis. A short walk from your hotel is the famous Plaka with a multitude of shops and cafes. Dinner at Hotel. Day 4- Thursday Sep 24 -Athens Following breakfast this morning we depart Athens for Corinth. We immediately travel west with a rest stop and photos at the Corinth Canal. We then travel to the ancient city of Corinth, another treat for the New Testament scholar. Corinth is the city that inspired many of Paul's most familiar letters. See the Archaeological Museum, the Market Place, the Bema, and the Temples. To enjoy a devotional in the midst of the ruins of the church of Corinth and see the pillars, steps, and public worship place where Paul preached will enhance your understanding and love of I & II Corinthians. The ruins of this important cultural center are fascinating as we walk along the stone path that the Apostle Paul walked. The engineering skill and intellect of these people are evident in the water systems that still flow from ancient to modern day. Time permitting- those ambitious enough can walk up Acro Corinth- and view ancient Corinth below. Tonight we have a wonderful farewell dinner overlooking the Acropolis. Day 5: Friday Sep 25-Fly- Athens-Izmir-Kusadasi This morning we depart Athens for our flight to Izmir, Turkey. Located in Izmir, are the ruins of the agora (marketplace )of ancient Smyrna ). It is here we will study Rev 2:8-11, the Persecuted Church that God said was rich. Afterwards, we continue to drive to Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight at hotel. Hotel: Charisma Day 6 Saturday Sep 26 -Kusadasi Today we depart for Ephesus, the Loveless Church (Rev 2:1-7) the city of the Bible and one of the largest restorations still in progress with miles of ancient treasures. Ephesus was once a thriving port town of 250,000 people. Today you can still see the spectacular excavations of the major streets in this ancient city where we view the Library, Agora, theatre, colorful mosaics in the aristocratic Terrace Houses, a panoramic view of the surrounding ancient port area including a wealth of church history and cultural insight. Then on to the Ephesus museum full of ancient treasures from the excavations. Onto the Basilica of St. John, housing an immersion baptismal and believed to be the resting place of John. From her we have an excellent view of Ephesus harbor, and the remains of Temple of Artemis, completed in its phase around 550BC and listed as one of the ancient Wonders of the World. Dinner at our hotel.

4 Day 7: Sunday Sep 27-Kusadasi/Pamukkale After breakfast drive to Pamukkale, the cotton fortress. This morning we visit Hierapolis, meaning "Sacred City," and was an ancient center for pagan cults until it was transformed into a Christian center in the first century. According to tradition, the Apostle Philip lived and was martyred in Hierapolis. It was the likely the hot springs of Hierapolis in contrast to the cold mountain springs near Colossae that combined to bring application to the "luke warm" Laodiceans. (Rev 3:14-22) This connection between the cities lies behind Paul s reference to Hierapolis and Laodicea in his epistle to the Colossians (Col 4:13). Colossae is well-known throughout Christian circles as the recipient of Paul's letter to the Colossians. Today, the town has fallen into obscurity and nothing remains. Laodicea contains many acres of ruins to visit including a stadium and remnants of a sophisticated water system. Dinner at Hotel: Doga Thermal. Day 8: Monday Sep 28-Pamukkale/Izmir Today our first stop is nearby Philadelphia, the Faithful church which was referred to as the "New Jerusalem" (Rev. 3:7-13) in the Book of Revelation. Not much is left of the city except for the ancient wall and the remains of a Byzantine basilica in the modern city of Alasehir. Continue to Sardis, the spiritually dead church. Sardis was berated by John for its facade of strength when in reality; it was weak (Rev. 3:1-6). Here coins were minted and the dyeing of wood originated. We'll visit the gymnasium and synagogue. Our last stop will be made in Thyatira; the church which Tolerated sin. (Rev 18-28) to view the ancient roadway and period columns. Dinner at Hotel: Kaya Thermal. Day 9: Tuesday Sep 29 Izmir/Canakkale After breakfast drive to Pergamum. Once a busy trading center and famous as a "seller of purple," the most favored of the Seven Churches, the church of Pergamum was praised for its forbearance (Rev. 2:12-17). It was here that the first Christians were executed by Rome. We'll visit the fabled Acropolis, pass through the Royal Gates, view the foundations of the Temple of Zeus and visit the ruins of the library, which once held 200,000 volumes. Then on to ancient Troy. Troy was destroyed and rebuilt nine times and has nine cities situated one upon another. Ancient Troy is well known for its 3rd and 4th Century BC excavations. Don't forget to have your picture taken from the top of the Trojan Horse! We pass by the area known as Troas, where Paul had a vision during his second missionary journey and was called to Macedonia (Acts 16:8-13). Paul later spent a week in Troas preaching here and Eutychus was resurrected (Acts 20:6-12). Dinner at Hotel:Kolin. Day10: Wednesday Sep 30- Canakkale/Istanbul After breakfast drive to Istanbul via the Gallipoli Peninsula, scene of fierce fighting in World War I, to Istanbul, ancient Constantinople. Upon arrival in Istanbul transfer to the hotel for dinner. Dinner at Hotel: CP Park Day 11: Thursday October 1 -Istanbul Full day city tour. The day starts with a walk across the Byzantine Hippodrome, where chariot races were held. Continue to visit the 1,500 year old St.Sophia, the Imperial Church of Byzantine Emperors In the afternoon visit the magnificent Topkapi Palace with its famous museums and pleasure gardens. Then to the Archaeological Museum which houses the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great and as well as other Biblical artifacts. Dinner at hotel. Day 12: Friday October 2 -Istanbul Start the day wandering round the covered Grand Bazaar, the largest in the world (with some 4,000 shops), continue to Spice market with exotic dried fruits and spices.. End the day with cruise on the Bosphorus by a private boat. Farewell dinner at a fancy restaurant with a wondeful Bosphorus view. Overnight at hotel. Day 13 Saturday October 3-Depart for USA Departure transfer to the airport for those departing to the US full of wonderful memories of Greece and Turkey

5 TOUR OPTION The Fairy Chimneys of Cappadocia Cappadocia is mentioned in the bible in the book of Acts 2:9. The Cappadocian s were named as one group hearing the gospel account from Galileans in their own language on the day of Pentecost shortly after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:5 seems to suggest that the Cappadocian s in this account were "God-fearing Jews". In 1 Peter 1:1, Peter also includes the converts in this province in the address of his letter. Day 13: Saturday October 3 -Istanbul/Kayseri or Nevsehir/Cappadocia Transfer to the airport for the flight to Kayseri or Nevsehir. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel in Cappadocia. Day 14: Sunday October 4-Cappadocia We spend all day exploring the history and scenery of Cappadocia. First off, we'll visit the gently folding volcanic rock formations and "fairy chimneys" of Goreme Open Air Museum. These rock formations are not only beautiful, but functional as well. Many early Christian communities lived and worshipped deep in t he rocks and crags, leaving their frescoes and paintings to be marveled at centuries later. Dinner at hotel. Other communities lived underground, and we'll visit these dwellings too, the most famouse being Kaymakli and Derinkulu. To protect themselves from Roman persecution and marauding bandits, local people began to live in underground caves forming "cities" that reach a depth of up to 7 stories below the surface. Other sites include the Natural Citadel of Uchisar and the small, picturesque village of Avanos - famous for their red clay pottery. In Avanos we'll visit "The Potter's Place: Gift Shoppe and Cultural Center" and have time for visiting local potter for a demonstration and maybe try your own hand at the potter's wheel. Dinner at hotel. Day 15: Monday October 5- Cappadocia Early in the morning you can enjoy an optional balloon ride, overlooking the valley of all the fairy chimneys. After you return to our hotel for breakfast, the group will visit Sinassos village a former Greek community. See old churches which were used until as recent as 1920 s. Next a short drive to Soganlik village, the undiscovered jewel of Cappadoccia with a number of old cave churches to see with beautiful 10-11th century frescoes on their walls. Prior to end your walk in the valley, walk through the village where people still live in caves. Opportunity to see women making bread in their handmade ovens and perhaps taste the bread with some Turkish tea aside. Dinner at hotel. Day 16 Tuesday October 6- Cappadocia Departure transfer to Kayseri or Nevsehir airport.
