Intermediate ELD fcuses n imprving the student s fluency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. The curse builds upn skills frm the Early Intermediate level f ELD and cntinues t build fluency in vcabulary develpment, reading skills (decding) f academic English, reading cmprehensin, writing strategies fcusing n the six basic dmains f writing (narrative, respnse t literature, expsitry cmpsitin persuasive, business letters and technical dcuments), the use f written and ral English language cnventins, as well as effective listening and speaking strategies. Students will cntinue studying and will analyze a variety f literary frms including shrt stry, petry, expsitry, drama and nvel. They will cntinue wrking with the writing prcess (prewriting, precmpsing, writing, sharing, revisin, editing and publicatin/evaluatin). Students will cntinue t build fluency in academic language and prepare fr high schl graduatin. The Califrnia Language Arts Cntent Standards as well as the English Language Develpment Standards have been incrprated int the Curse Objectives. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Students will (Listening/Speaking) Cntinually expand their cmprehensin and prductin f ral English in ever widening cntexts t participate fully in a mainstream English setting. Specifically, they will understand and speak ral English within the age-apprpriate parameters as stated in the Califrnia ELD Cntent Standards: Grades 6 8, at the Early Intermediate Prficiency Level. (Reading) Becme readers wh emply apprpriate strategies and skills t cnstruct meaning frm increasingly cmplex English print. Specifically, they will expand their use f age-apprpriate literature and familiarity with a wide variety f genre as stated in the Califrnia ELD Standards: Grades 6 8, at the Early Intermediate Prficiency Level. (Writing) Becme increasingly skillful writers f English, able t cmmunicate effectively in an ever widening variety f cntexts. Specifically, students will fully emply the writing prcess and write English within the age-apprpriate parameters as stated in the Califrnia ELD Standards: Grades 6 8, at the Early Intermediate Prficiency Level.
