10 Sustainable Building Engineering 240 ECTS The aim of the programme is to develop a thorough understanding of the factors affecting to the sustainability of buildings and to provide skills to design, build and manage healthy, energy efficient and durable buildings.
11 Environmental Engineering 240 ECTS The aim of the program is to develop a thorough understanding of the causes of pollution and the preventative actions available to minimize its impacts.
12 Elective studies in SD In addition to studies in their professional major subject, the student can include either 15 or 30 credits worth of Metropolia s Elective Modules into their degree. The elective modules are open for all fields of study and all Bachelor degree programmes.

14 Sustainable Development 15 cr (5+5+5) After completing the course, the students are able to identify different aspects and components of sustainable development in their everyday life and in their professional field, and to advance sustainable development in their own activities recognise and analyse complex local and global phenomena and their interdependencies from environmental, social and financial points of view collect and analyse information and to form a justifiable opinion on the current state, background and future of affairs work in a group to plan, implement and evaluate activities that advance sustainable development. 14
15 Building a sustainable world - XX00CH67, 5 ECTS Learning outcomes of the course understand the interdependencies and conflicts of the global environment, societies, individuals and economies recognize how natural resources are used to produce commodities food, clothes, technical devices, energy understand the significance of natural resources and ecosystems in their own professional field are aware of the connection between the products and services they use and their producers and supply chains recognize the consequences of their own choices in relation to sustainable development. 15

17 Seminar on global development - XX00CH68, 5 cr Learning outcomes of the course know the most important global development programmes and their objectives recognise the needs, possibilities and challenges of global development, and the connections between environmental, social and financial factors are familiar with some international development organizations and non-governmental organizations and their activities recognise the links between their own professional field and the global development issues are able, both independently and as a group member, to obtain, analyse and process information on global development issues, and to present the results verbally and in writing 17

21 Sustainable communities 15 cr (5+10) After completing the course, the students are able to: recognise the significance of sustainable development and its components in relation to the structures and activities of the society recognise, analyse and compare environmental, social and economic criteria when planning and implementing projects of companies and the society understand the links between their own professional field and the activities and objectives of sustainable society independently and as a group member to collect and analyse information and, based on the findings, plan and implement sustainability-advancing projects and activities in collaboration with representatives from various fields 21

24 Thousand Ideas for Baltic Sea, 10 cr innovation course is highly fulfilling the strategies of Metropolia by strengthening regional development, developing sustainable development practices, and developing cooperation between Metropolia UAS and companies and other parties. 24
25 Objectives for Thousand Ideas for the Baltic Sea to find Baltic Sea related innovations that can be implemented in practice to help companies to implement or further develop their BSAG Commitments to raise awareness of the state of the Baltic Sea among students and partners to find innovative solutions affecting directly or improving indirectly in any of BSAG s focus areas: 1. nutrient recycling, 2. eutrophication, 3. biodiversity, 4. hazardous substances and 5. maritime safety 25

33 MetroSol solar energy laboratory fulfills international standards (IEC and EN ) relating to solar energy test environments and its used for testing mono- and multicrystalline solar panels and several types of solar collectors This laboratory is unique in the world it monitors both solar electricity and heat production, there can be tested different solar energy products at same time and all solutions can be monitored and adjust separately 33
34 E-RA electric car and Doblo battery technology The world's fastest street-legal electric car developed by Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Please see 92a07986aa2263ad88db5f035a1 Doble battery technology is wireless recharging technology developed by Metropolia UAS. 34
35 Biofore Concept Car The car is a great example of Biofore thinking using renewable materials. The concept car is designed and manufactured in partnership with Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, and several other partner companies. The engineering and industrial design students of Metropolia designed and manufactured the car with the guidance of teachers who have successfully carried out several internationally renowned concept car projects. 35
