8 with the late Richard Dermer, who founded The Hideaway in 1957 in Stillwater, OK, just off the Oklahoma State campus. Richard believed in one simple idea: great food and happy employees equals happy guests. We strive to stay true to his idea every day. Y? WHAT CAN WE SA WE LIKE TO FLY KITES Richard was actually the president of the National Kitefliers Association and traveled the world flying kites. In his travels he would collect unique kites and hang them in the Hideaway for all to enjoy. At one time Hideaway had the largest fleet, yes FLEET, of VW BUGS in the United States. They were painted with fun designs and zipped around campus delivering pizzas back in the day. were the idea of Richard s wife, Marti. She thought the original Hideaway needed a little decorating. So one night she came into the restaurant and created a collage by glueing magazine pictures all over a wall. The wall became a hit with the guests who loved to find their favorite images. We still make em for every store. PENTE (pen tay) - the Greek word for five. It s a world-famous board game (didn t you know?) developed by an employee at the original Hideaway in the 70s. The goal? Just get five pieces in a row before your opponent. Easy, right? All work and no play? NOT US! t a h t d n a, h O? y u G a z z i P g n funny looki HIS NAME IS KAHUNA. You can say he represents us. We don t take ourselves too seriously. We re independent individuals who are comfortable in our own skin. We re inclusive, a little quirky, and we like to have a little fun. (Ok, a whole lot of fun!)
