INTRODUCTION Congratulations on the purchase of your Precision Solar Powered Radio Controlled Watch. Be sure to read this instruction manual before using the watch for the first time. After reading the manual please keep it in a safe place for future reference. Your Precision watch is a world band (multi frequency) watch. It incorporates a highly sensitive radio receiver that receives time signals from the UK, Europe, US and Japan according to the time zone setting on the watch. Your Precision watch even adjusts automatically for daylight saving time. Automatic Time Setting Your Precision watch receives the available atomic clock signal automatically at 3:00am every night according to the time zone setting (go to time zone setting for details). Everything is done automatically. 01

Automatic Time Setting Your Precision Watch receives the available Atomic Clock signal automatically at 3:00am every night according to the Time Zone setting (go to Time Zone setting for details. Everything is done automatically. Battery Management When the battery level is low, the LCD display shows a flashing, empty battery icon and the seconds hand runs 2 steps every 2 seconds. When this is the case, all button functions and signal reception will be prohibited. If the battery is not charged up in time, the hands will stop to save battery power at 12 o clock. You will need to charge up the watch. This may take a few days if the battery is too low. The watch will automatically set itself once the battery level returns to normal. The battery icon represents different battery charge levels as below. Recharging Time Notes on Recharging Avoid recharging at a high temperature (over 60oc) such as placing it on a dashboard of a vehicle or too close to an electric lamp. It is recommended that the watch should be charged up once a month to direct sun light or under a strong fluorescent lamp. The watch may need several days to charge up (depending on the charging environment) from a complete stop if the battery is too low. Wait patiently until the watch is charged up and resume normal operation. 4 Caution: The watch should not be overheated or it will be damaged forever.

SOLAR POWER RECHARGING Your Precision watch is charged by all ambient light, whether that is from a natural or artificial power source. Avoid overheating as it will damage the watch permanently. When the watch is fully charged, it can run for around 12 months on a single charge. Notes on Recharging Avoid recharging at high temperatures (over 60 C) such as placing it on a dashboard of a vehicle or too close to an electric lamp. It is recommended that the watch should be charged up once a month in direct sun light or under strong fluorescent lamp. The watch may need several days to charge up (depending on the environment) from a complete stop if the battery is low. Wait until the watch is fully charged to resume operation. How it works All light is absorbed through the transparent watch dial. A solar cell situated beneath the dial converts the light into electrical energy to power the watch. With regular exposure to ambient light the watch will continue to charge. The battery stores enough energy to power the watch, even in the dark. LIGHT For artificial light, use a flourescent lamp at a distance of 8cm LENS DIAL SOLAR PANEL BATTERY CASE 5

Watch Hands (hour, minute and second hand) Alignment The watch hands need to be aligned when the watch hands are shifted 1. Pull out the crown when the second hand is at 12:00:00 to stop it from running 2. Rotate the crown to set Hour and Minute hands at 12:00:00 3. Don t push in the crown. Hold S1 for around 10 seconds and then release the button 4. Push in the crown 5. The hands start spinning. Wait until the watch matches with the internal time and resume normal running. TROUBLESHOOTING Second Hand Shifting Your watch is a very delicate and precise instrument. Although uncommon, sometimes hard knocks or vibrations can cause the hands to move irregularly, and therefore display the incorrect time, although the internal clock is keeping accurate time. You may notice this when setting the LCD to Second and find that it is not synchronized with the analogue second hand. This shows the reference point of the analogue second hand has changed and the watch needs to be reset. Please go to Reset the Watch for details. Watch Not Receiving Time Signal Reason for not being able to receive the time signal include: Being outside of the radio signal area Being in a built up area Metal objects blocking the radio signal Interference by computer monitor or TV Ensure the watch is left by a window, as this gives the best reception. You may have to try different windows in the house to see which is best. You can test this by using reception status test described earlier. Please note that reception is always better at night. 11

If your watch is unable to make contact with the radio signal, it will continue to function in the same way as a standard watch. The time will then be corrected the next time your watch receives the time signal. Watch Stops or Runs 2 Steps Every 2 Seconds When the battery level is low, the LCD shows a flashing empty battery icon and the second hand runs 2 steps every 2 seconds. If the battery is not charged up in time, the hands stop to save the battery power at 12 o clock. This is not a malfunction. You will need to put the watch under direct sunlight or cool fluorescent light until the hand resumes running. This may take few days if the battery is too low. The watch will automatically set itself once the battery level returns to normal. Please go to Charging the watch for details. Hour is Wrong While Minute is Right If your Time Zone setting is incorrect, your watch will show the wrong time. You need to manually set it to the right Time Zone. Go to Time Zone Setting for details. Second or Hour or Minute Hands are Wrong Need to reset all hands to 12 O clock. Go to Reset the watch for details. No Display and Watch Hands Stop If the battery is too low, the watch is not able to maintain the internal running time. When this is the case, the LCD screen does not show any display and the watch hands do not run. This is not a malfunction. If this is the case, the watch needs to be charged under strong light until the LCD displays Set to 12. After that, follow the After Battery Replacement to initiate the watch. If the watch does not show Set to 12 after charging under strong light continuously for several days, then the battery needs to be replaced. Go to Battery Change for details. 12

Reset the Watch 1. Pull out the crown when the second hand has paused at 12:00:00 to stop it from running 2. Rotate the crown so that the Hour and Minute hands are aligned at 12:00: Don t push in the crown. Hold S2 for around 10 seconds and then release the button 4. Push in the crown 5. The hands start normal running 6. The LCD display shows LON. This is the pre-set Time Zone of the watch LONDON, UK. 7. Set your Time Zone by S1. For Germany, please set it to BER. For America, please set it to LAX, DEN, CHI or NYC. 8. Press-release S2 to confirm 9. The watch will now initiate a signal reception automatically. Put the watch near a window and let it rest on its side or in a face-down position (make sure the metal band doesn t touch the caseback of the watch). 10. The watch will run to the right time if the reception is successful otherwise it will run at 12 o clock if the reception has failed. 11. Place your watch near a window to get a signal if the initial reception has failed. The watch will start to update the signal at the beginning of the next hour. It will continue updating signal for the coming 24 hours. The hands move on to the correct time after receiving a valid time signal. PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you check that the battery level is at least half-full before doing the RESET. If the battery level is not half-full, charge up the watch until it reaches this level. Express Second Hand Alignment You can align the second hands by the below express method if it experiences minor shifting. However it is a little complicated and requires some good judgment. If you are not able to set the shifted second hand using the below method then you need to follow the Reset the Watch to align the watch hands. 13

1. Hold S2 (bottom right button) and do not release 2. Then hold S1. Now you are holding 2 buttons at the same time 3. Hold these buttons until the second hand spins to a new position 4. Then judge 1 If the second hand stops at a position between 12:00-6:00: Press S1 once after another to set the second hand to point at 6 o clock. Then press S2 to confirm. Wait until the watch resumes normal running. If the second hand stops at a position between 6:00-12:00 Press S2 once Wait until the watch resumes normal running. Repeat step 1 to 4 If the second hand stops exactly at 6 o clock Press S2 once Wait until the watch resumes normal running. Changing the Battery Your watch uses a high quality ML2016 rechargeable battery which can work for up to 20 years with the correct usage. When you need to replace a new battery, please find a trained jeweller or watch specialist to replace the battery to avoid any damage to the watch. The specialist will open the watch at the back. Carefully removing the bottom, making sure not to lose the waterproof seal. Pick up the battery spring carefully. Take out the battery and insert a new one (watch the polarity! + up). Then push the battery spring down. Before you put the case-back on again, make sure the waterproof seal is correctly in place. 14

After Battery Replacement 1. After battery replacement, the LCD displays Set to Make sure the crown is pushed-in and the second hand is running normally 3. Pull out the crown when the second hand is at 12:00:00 to stop it from running 4. Rotate the crown to set Hour and Minute hands at 12:00:00 5. Then push-in the crown 6. Then, the watch will initiate a signal reception automatically. Put the watch near a window and let it rest on its side or in a face-down manner (make sure a metal band doesn t touch the case-back of the watch). 10. The watch will run to the right time if the reception is successful or starts to run at 12 o clock if the reception is failed. 11. Place your watch near to a window to get a signal if the initial reception failed. The watch will start to update the signal at the beginning of the next hour. It will continue updating the signal for the coming 24 hours. After receiving a valid time signal, the hands move on to the correct time. 12. Please go to Reset the Watch if you are not able to perform this operation correctly after a battery replacement. It will give you the same result. Set the Watch to Sleep 1. While the watch is running normally, holding S1 and then hold S2 and wait for around 3 seconds until the second hand spins to stop at 12 o clock. The LCD shows QSM. 2. Then release all buttons 3. Press S1 once to enter the sleep mode 4. After pressing S1, the display shows SLP and watch hands spin to stop at 12:00:00 to sleep (this will take a long time to reach). 5. When the watch is sleeping, the LCD turns off, the hands stops and signal reception is stopped but the internal time is still running. 15

How to Check the Battery Level Whilst the Watch is Sleeping 1. When the watch is sleeping, press any button once to show the battery level for one minute. 2. NPL is responsible for operating the national time system and making accurate time available across the UK. The clock you have just received keeps accurate time by picking up NPL s radio signal, called MSF, which is broadcast on 60 khz from a location in Cumbria. This transmission carries a date and time code that radio controlled clocks use to set themselves to the correct time. The signal is controlled by atomic clocks at the radio station, and is adjusted to keep it in step with the national time maintained at NPL s laboratory in south-west London. For more information visit time Your clock is controlled by the MF signal which is synchronised to the nation time scale at NPL, making it forever accurate. There are times during the year when the signal is switched off for maintenance. Please check the following web site for technical information: 18
