3 Important Windows Info Today Windows updates Please ensure that all important Windows updates are installed If you have Windows 8 but not Windows 8.1 You must update to Windows 8.1 now How do I tell which version I have Windows 8 to update 8.1 tutorial is here: tutorial If you use Internet Explorer 8, 9 or 10 You must update to Internet Explorer 11 now How do I tell which version I have and how do I update to Internet Explorer 11

4 Should I Upgrade to Windows 10? Can you answer YES to all of these questions? Do you have Windows 7 or 8.1 and don t like it? Do you backup your computer files regularly? Have you installed ALL of the Windows updates for your PC? Can you reinstall ALL of your software if necessary? For ALL software that you have purchased do you have: the original discs or a copy of the download instructions with a license number or product key? Are you satisfied with your computer hardware? Speed and computer type (laptop vs desktop) and You are not planning on replacing it soon Are you comfortable installing software? Have you checked that your peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) work with Windows 10?

5 What Could Possibly Go Wrong? PLENTY! These could be your files & programs! This is NOT a minor adjustment to your computer! REMEMBER: there is always risk in an operating system upgrade!

6 What are my options to the upgrade? Keep using the Windows version you have Windows 7 supported through January 2020 Windows 8.1 supported through January 2023 But MUST update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Buy a new computer with Windows 10 on it Ensures you have a familiar computer to use while learning Windows 10 Provides a fall back if you have any software or peripheral problems with Windows 10

7 Ok, it s risky. Why should I upgrade? Microsoft s most secure operating system Built-in security software (just like Windows 8) Windows 8/8.1 annoyances have largely been eliminated in Windows 10 Charms are gone Start menu is back New voice command feature (Cortana) New browser (Edge) But the Tech Team recommends the Google Chrome browser

8 Some Basic Things To Know Windows 10 upgrade is free for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users Legitimate licensees only until 7/28/16 You can t upgrade directly from Windows 8, must first go to 8.1 How do I tell which version I have Windows 8 to update 8.1 tutorial is here: You can roll-back to your previous Windows version Only within the 1 st 30 days after your upgrade What do I lose? Windows 8.1 mostly the annoyances (charms, start screen) Windows 7 Windows Solitaire, Windows Media Center (DVD playing software Microsoft will download a replacement Windows DVD Player to registered Windows 7 machines Other DVD players are available for download for free. 11 What You Must Do To Prepare You must have the windowpane icon in the lower right corner of your screen. What if no windowpane icon on my PC? Are you running Windows 7? If so, run windows update repeatedly until the windowpane appears Are you running Windows 8? If so, you must upgrade to Windows 8.1 Are you running Windows 8.1? If so, run windows update repeatedly until the windowpane appears

12 Confirm Your PC Is Ready First, click on the windowpane Then Click on the 3 Stacked Bars Icon Here Then Click on Check your PC

13 Is Your PC Ready for Windows 10 You Must Get This You re good to go! Box from Windows otherwise, your PC is NOT ready.

14 Ready? Cross Your Fingers & Get Started Plan on at least 3 hours Left-click on the Windowpane in the lower right area of the screen
