Scope of the opinion According to 216 of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure [3.1], the requirement imposed fixing of façade cladding elements - described in 225 of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure [3.1] - in the event of a fire, must be met for at least 60 minutes for buildings with a fire resistance of class B, and in the case of buildings with class C and D of fire resistance above mentioned requirement must be met for at least 30 minutes. Subject of the opinion is to assess of the aluminium sub-construction BSP System designed for fixing of ventilated façade claddings with reference to the requirements of 225 of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure [3.1]. 2. Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 12 April on the technical requirements to be met by buildings and their location (Journal of Laws [Dz.U.] No. 75 item 690), with subsequent amendments. 3.2 Technical Approval of Institute of Buidling Technique [ITB] AT /2014; Set of products for making of the aluminium sub-construction BSP System for fixing of ventilated façade claddings. 3.3 The testing of external wall, concerning façade elements falling off in case of fire, carried out on 02 June 2015 in the Fire Testing Laboratory of ITB in Pionki, according to internal procedure. 3.4 Technical documentation supplied by the Orderer. 5 4. Technical description Types of aluminium construction and brackets which are the subject of analysis are shown in Fig. 3, and their assembling in the mounting structure is shown in Fig. 1. The choice of a correct aluminium sub-construction BSP System solution and of a fixing bracket depends on the results of the statistical calculations, wherein the bearing capacity and assembly method of the chosen solution must be in line with the conditions stated in the current Technical Approval AT /2014 [3.2], Types of the analysed brackets of the BSP System solutions are marked as following (Fig. 1. 3): KW1 (standard system), K1 (floor to floor system), KW PAS (passive system). The brackets fixing the aluminium sub-constructions are located in thermal insulation layer made of mineral wool of a minimum of 150 mm thickness and a minimum of 48 kg/m 3 density. The mineral wool is fixed to the mineral wool by steel or plastic dowel pins, using at least 5 pc. per 1 m 2 of the wool sheet. The fixing construction may be a masonry, concrete or reinforced concrete wall with a minimal thickness depending on the anchor type (according to the regulations of minimal depth of the seating and mounting in line with the Approval [3.2]), but not less than 120 mm thick and with the density of at least 600 kg/m 3. The 500 x 2482 x 8 mm façade claddings of the Rockpanel panels, fibre cement or HPL type (an overview of the types according to Fig. 2) are fixed to a ground with system brackets, aluminium grate and primer/adhesive sets (primer, glue and double-sided tape) suitable for all kinds of panels according to the instructions of the primer/adhesive set manufacturer. Each kind of glue shall be used in an amount prescribed by the manufacturer. 5. Assessment of the façade fixing On 02-nd June 2015 in the Fire Testing Laboratory of the Institute of Building Technique in Pionki a survey was conducted in terms of the façade elements falling off in case of fire [3.4], Fig The configuration and dimensions of the tested element is presented in Fig. 2 and list of materials used and their fixing is shown in Fig Page 65of 16

6 During the test, cracking and falling off the Rockpanel and fibre cement panels were noticed. The HPL type panel, being placed in the area of less intense heating, did not fall off or crack wherein burnout of the panel adhesive fixing materials in the area up to 500 mm height was noticed after the test. The panels placed in the middle part fell off complete or in pieces, wherein the indirect reason was the adhesive layer burnout. It was stated, that during the test, the aluminium sub-construction (grate) gradually burns out and falls off. After complete 60 minutes of the test, destruction of the aluminium sub-construction (grate) was observed up to 700 mm (Fig ), whereas the brackets placed in the thermal insulation layer were practically untouched, Fig. 12. After analysis of the test results obtained and based on the presented technical documentation, it can be evaluated that the BSP System bracket of the KW1, K1 and KW PAS types, manufactured and fixed to a building structure, according to the technical description stated in the paragraph 4, maintain their durability in case of fire for over at least 60 minutes. The aluminium grate may gradually melt and fall down in form of small elements or drops, but it should not directly affect the evacuation of people or activity of the emergency rescue teams. In order to accept the aluminium grate as safe - according to the paragraph 4 of the 225 of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure - a possibility of burnout of the grate part up to 700 mm from the window opening/ordinary glazing, in case of fire lasting 60 minutes, should be taken under consideration by the Designer. 6. Final remarks The technical evaluation is valid indefinitely, provided that none material or structural changes are introduced in the technical solutions of the sub-construction BSP System and in the bracket KW1, K1 and KW PAS fixing façade claddings.
