1 Required information Job Aid Pre-Installation Information S8500 Media Server This job aid provides the information, hardware requirements, and computer hardware and software specifications necessary for installing the Avaya S8500 Media Server with the G650 Media Gateway. It covers the following items: Required information Site requirements Equipment specifications Media gateways Required hardware Computer specifications Network configuration Required information Before going on site, make sure the customer has a local area network set up and running and a network administrator available the day of the installation. Before beginning the installation, make sure you have the filled-out Electronic Preinstallation Worksheet on the services laptop. Site requirements The Avaya S8500 Media Server is a simplex media server that mounts in a 2- or 4-post data rack. Possible network components consists of one uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit to back up the S8500 Media Server and one or more Ethernet switches. The customer is responsible for providing a sturdy 2- or 4-post data rack built to the EIA 310D (or equivalent) standards. The 4-post data racks must be installed, secured, and grounded per local code and rack specifications before the equipment is mounted in them. The 4-post data rack must be rated at a minimum of 200 pounds (90 kilograms). Make sure that the screws that come with the rack are available. If an UPS is being installed, make sure that the rail kits required to support the very heavy UPS unit are installed on the rack or available for installation. Make sure the rails and screws that come with the Remote Supervisor Adapter (RSA) are available. The customer also must provide AC power to the rack from a nonswitched outlet. Pre-Installation Information S8500 Media Server 1 November
2 Equipment specifications Equipment specifications This section provides specifications for the control network components and the G650 Media Gateways. Control network components The Avaya S8500 Media Server can be installed with one or more Avaya Ethernet switches and one UPS unit. Table 1, Control network components specifications, on page 2 provides the control network components specifications. Table 1: Control network components specifications Component S8500 Media Server Ethernet switch: P133G2/P134G2 P333T/334T UPS: 700 VA 1500 VA Dimensions English (in) Metric (cm) Us (height in rack) Weight (lb/kg) 1.75h x 17d x 17w 4.4h x 43d x 43w 1 23/ h x 14d x 19w 3.5h x 18d x 19w 3.5h x 19d x 17w 3.5h x 24d x 17w 9h x 35d x 48w 9h x 45d x 48w 9h x 48d x 43w 9h x 30d x 43w , 13/5, /7.5 34/15 50/23 The internal room temperature must not exceed 104 F (40 C). Media gateways The Avaya media gateways should be installed in a well-ventilated area. The operating range is 41 F (5 C) to 104 F (40 C) and up to 104 F (40 C) for continuous operation. The relative humidity range is 10% to 95% at up to 84 F (20 C). The other environmental considerations and system protection requirements described in the Hardware Guide for The Avaya Communication Manager under "Site Requirements" apply to the Avaya media gateways. The Avaya G600, MCC1, SCC1, and CMC1 Media Gateways are supported when migrating an existing Avaya configuration to the Avaya S8500 Media Server. For new installations, the G650 Media Gateway is used. Table 2, G650 Media Gateway specifications, on page 2 provides the dimensions for the G650 Media Gateway. Table 2: G650 Media Gateway specifications Dimensions Us (height Weight Media gateway English (in) Metric (cm) in rack) (lb/kg) G650 14h x 22d x 17.5w 30h x 56d x 48w / Pre-Installation Information S8500 Media Server November 2003
3 Equipment specifications Avaya G650 Media Gateway The G650 mounts in industry-standard EIA-310D 19-inch racks. The G650 can be rack-mounted or, in single G650 configurations, table- or floor-mounted. Multiple G650s (up to five) can be mounted in a rack and connected by TDM cables to create a G650 stack. The G650 provides options for front- or mid-mounting. Although the G650 can be mounted in a 19-inch (48.3 centimeters) four-post data rack, it does not mount simultaneously to all four posts. When mounted in a four-post rack, it uses the front mounting position. Installation requires a clearance of 12 inches (30 centimeters) in the rear, and 18 inches (45 centimeters) of clearance in the front for adequate ventilation and to conform with EIA3 10D data rack standards. In a multiple G650 configuration, put the G650s in the rack without any space between them. If the G650s are not correctly placed in the rack, the TDM/LAN cable cannot connect them. Alarms Alarms can be generated on adjunct equipment, sent to the Avaya S8500 Media Server, and recorded and reported as "external alarms." The adjunct equipment must provide an isolated contact closure across the alarm leads provided by the Avaya S8500 Media Server. The contact must be rated at a minimum of 60 VDC with a minimum current carrying capacity of 5 ma.
