2 Objectives Attendees will gain an understanding of the Georgia Emergency Preparedness Coalition for Individuals with Disabilities and Older Adults Attendees will be able to describe the Coalition s network Attendees will be able to list the preparedness resources developed by the Coalition Attendees will gain an understanding of the Functional and Access Need Toolkit Georgia Disability in Georgia 98million 9.8 individuals reside in Georgia 12.4%( 1.2 million) of these individuals have one or more disabilities. * 1 million older adults live in Georgia *Source: 2013 American Community Survey (ACS) 2

7 Georgia s Functional & Access Needs General assumptions: Most persons with functional needs can function perfectly well in a general population shelter with proper support. With the proper supports, individuals with access and functional needs benefit equally from the services provided in general population shelters, and should almost always be housed in those shelters. Functional Needs Population Persons who may have additional needs before, during and after an incident in functional areas such as : communication medical care independence supervision transportation 7
8 Functional and Access Needs Support Services Toolkit Functional Needs Support Services (FNSS) are defined as services that enable individuals to maintain their independence in a general population shelter. FNSS includes: reasonable modification to policies, practices, and procedures durable medical equipment (DME) consumable medical supplies (CMS) personal assistance services (PAS) other goods and services as needed State ADA Coordinator s Office For More Information on the Coalition go to: 8
