ROLE INFORMATION Employer: Position Title: Location: Status: The Flagstaff Group Ltd ( Flagstaff ) Pre-Production & Design Officer Unanderra Full time Classification: Flagstaff Certified Agreement Grade 6 Reporting to: Remuneration: Print Services Manager Wage - $ per week ($22.52 p/h) THE PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Reporting to the Print Services Manager, you will be working in a modern and well equipped printery where you will join a team of staff members and supported employees to ensure their focus is to produce quality products and exceed customer expectations. You will be responsible for processing and/or creating artwork from complex instruction and procedures and designing layouts, assembling and formatting text and graphic elements in preparation for printing. In this hands on Mac based position, by applying your sound knowledge and experience in using Adobe CS suite, Acrobat, you will be required to consult with customers to develop a design brief that meets the customer's requirements, and is able to be printed without losing quality or exceeding budget constraints Exercising substantial responsibility and independent initiative and judgment, you must be able to pre-flight and trouble shoot customer supplied PDF's with the ability to edit and amend PDF's. You will also be required to work with customer supplied artwork which may require, amending, typesetting, recreating. When not undertaking tasks directly relating to your role, you will be expected to carry out any other task or activity assigned to you by your manager that is within your level of skills, training & abilities and/or the reasonable expectation of the Grade for this role and/or any lower Grade. Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts. Estimating the time required to complete the work and providing an estimate for the client. Ensure actual design time does not exceed the quoted time. Communicate any additional costs to client prior to their commencement. Proofreading to produce accurate and high quality work. Prepares finished approved artwork for next stage of production. 3 Customer Service (Indicative Time Commitment=20%): Maintain high levels of professional customer service to all internal and external stakeholders. Ensure any changes to schedule are communicated to the client. Open line of communication throughout the project. Operations (Indicative Time Commitment=20%): Ensure any delays from pre-production to production are communicated. Attend daily work in progress meetings. Thorough understanding of all facets of print production and its relationship with efficient design, pre-press and printing processes. THE KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE Maintain a focus on the Vision and Mission of the Flagstaff Group and our commitment to people with disabilities. Competently operate computer software packages relevant to the role including understanding and applying computer techniques as they relate to file preparation and imposition. Maintain artwork files archive and ensure consistency with regards to naming conventions etc. Maintain a high level of professional customer service throughout all levels of the business. Work from customer artwork briefs and efficiently interpret customer s requests or business needs. Ensure a high level of quality with regards to the creation of artwork files and tasks as assigned. Perform in depth quality inspections of your own work and the work of others as appropriate or instructed. Ensures quality of goods and services within the limits of your authority. Participate in basic production scheduling and material handling within the scope of the production process. Define requirements necessary to competently process works orders and action as directed. Comply and support others to comply with all policies & procedures, standards, rules and applied legislation including the Work Health & Safety Injury Management Systems. Consult with management and other employees on safety related issues. Immediately report all incidents, accidents, defective equipment, possible hazards and unsafe work practices immediately to the Safety Team & your manager. 4 INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEE WORK HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES All employees and contractors will actively ensure safe practices are followed and take reasonable care in the performance of their work to prevent work related injuries to themselves and others. In particular, all employees and contractors shall: Maintain safe work conditions and use safe work practices at all times; Immediately report all incidents, accidents, defective equipment, possible hazards and unsafe work practices to the Safety Team & your manager. Follow all safety regulations and precautions and wear the correct PPE at all times; Assist in the implementation of Flagstaff s WHS policy; Comply with safety directions; Attend training courses as required; Ensure compliance with Flagstaff Contractor induction requirements. In addition, Supervisors and Managers are also to: Ensure tasks are conducted in a manner consistent with Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) Participate in the development and/or review of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS). Identify workplace risks and hazards and report same using correct procedure and documentation. Ensure compliance with the Flagstaff Work Health & Safety Management System and the Return to Work & Injury Management System. Consult with management and other employees on safety related issues THE SELECTION CRITERIA QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated awareness of Flagstaff s Vision, Mission, Culture and Values; Demonstrated awareness of the Disability Service Standards; Trade Certificate or equivalent qualifications and with a minimum of 3 years experience. 5 Comprehensive knowledge of specific software packages as relates to the production of artwork and the prepress/printing process; Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities Excellent interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills; Demonstrated strong planning, time management and prioritising skills; Demonstrated ability to operate independently, effectively and professionally with limited supervision. PERFORMANCE & ABILITY EXPECTATION For an employee at this Grade, the ability to meet the expectations and/or skills of this Grade and any lower Grades is a requirement of this position. Grade expectations and/or skills are outlined in Schedule A of the Flagstaff Group Ltd Certified Agreement 2004 as follows: GRADE 1 A person engaged in this Grade shall undertake up to 38 hours induction training which may include information on Flagstaff s business, conditions of employment, introduction to supervisors and fellow workers, training and career path opportunities, work site layout, work and documentation procedures, occupational health and safety, equal employment opportunity and quality control/assurance. An Employee at this level performs basic routine duties essentially of a manual nature and to their level of training. Persons at this level exercise minimal judgement and work under direct supervision whilst undergoing structured training to Grade 2. Examples of duties at this Grade include basic cleaning within a kitchen or food preparation area including cleaning of dishes and utensils, labouring, sorting, packing, labelling, clipping, assembly document preparation and routine basic assembly tasks. GRADE 2 An Employee who has completed at least three months structured training so as to enable them to perform work within the scope of this level. An Employee at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of an Employee at Grade 1 and to the level of their training. 1) Works under direct supervision either individually or in a team environment. 2) Understands and undertakes basic quality control/assurance procedures including the ability to recognise basic quality deviations/faults. GRADE 3 An Employee who has completed relevant training so as to enable the Employee to perform work within the scope of this level. 6 An Employee at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of an Employee at Grade 2 and to the level of their training. 1) Is responsible for the quality of their own work subject to routine supervision 2) Works under routine supervision either individually or in a team environment 3) Exercises discretion within their level of skills and training. GRADE 4 An Employee who has completed relevant training so as to enable the Employee to perform work within the scope of this level. An Employee at this level performs work above and beyond the skills of an Employee at Grade 3 and to the level of their training. 1) Works from complex instructions and procedures 2) Assists in the provision of on the job training to a limited degree 3) Co-ordinates work in a team environment or works individually under general supervision 4) Is responsible for assuring the quality of their own work. GRADE 5 A person at this level may hold a Trade Certificate or equivalent qualifications and is able to exercise the skills and knowledge of that trade. In the absence of formal qualifications and in nontrade areas, relevant experience may be sufficient to enable a person to work at this grade. Indicative skills include the following: 1) Understands and applies quality control techniques 2) Exercises good interpersonal and communications skills 3) Exercises discretion within the scope of this grade 4) Performs work under limited supervision either individually or in a team environment and assists with the supervision of others 5) Operate all lifting equipment incidental to their work 6) Performs non-trade tasks incidental to their work 7) Performs work which while primarily involving the skills of the Employee s trade is incidental or peripheral to the primary task and facilitates the completion of the whole task. Such incidental or peripheral work would not require additional formal technical training 8) Able to inspect products and/or materials for conformity with established operation service standards 9) Supervises the work of a section or unit engaged in work of a complex nature 10) Co-ordinates and broadly oversees the work of one or more assistant supervisors at Grade 4. 7 GRADE 6 An Employee who possesses trade qualifications or equivalent experience and skill to be capable of: a) Assessing the ability, skill and competence of a person with a disability to carry out specific work tasks or duties together with being able to design, develop and provide individual instruction and training for a person with a disability as required to assist the person in attaining their identified vocational goals. b) Performing specialist tasks and is fully competent in his/her work, requires general supervision and little direct guidance in the performance thereof, exercises substantial responsibility and independent initiative and judgement with a requisite knowledge of their specific field and of Flagstaff s business. c) Supervising the work of a section or unit engages in work of a complex nature where trade skills or equivalent are required. d) Co-ordinating and broadly overseeing the work of one or more supervisors who are engaged at a lower level. e) Exercising substantial responsibility and independent initiative and judgement with a requisite knowledge of their specific field and of Flagstaff s business...
