As can be learned from country such as Japan, organisations and communities with solid plans in place could prevent further loss of life and damage during the time of calamities. Realising the importance of BCM, SIRIM Berhad is organising the seminar Towards Business Continuity Management Compliance & Certification to provide organisations with a clear and correct approach in strategising, developing and implementing BCM based on industrial practices.

2 To assist organisations in setting up BCM in place, SIRIM Berhad together with a team of experts has developed MS 1970 Business Continuity Management Framework. MS 1970 describes the structured process for developing a BCM framework applicable to any organisation in any sector or industry. Its scope is limited to identifying the processes involved in developing a BCM framework, the recommended sequence of steps and the minimum deliverables expected from each process. Apart from MS 1970, the following standards are also useful in BCM implementation. BS Specification for Business Continuity Management ISO/DIS Societal Security Preparedness and Continuity Management Systems-Requirements AS/NZ 5050 Business continuity Managing disruption-related risk NFPA 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs By attending this seminar, participants will be given the highlights as well as presented with a comparison between these standards.
