1 MANAGEMENT SCIENCE/OPERATIONS RESEARCH SOCIETY OF MALAYSIA (MSORSM) The Professional Association for the Advancement of the Management Sciences [Reg. 3935/86 (Selangor)] (Incorporated under Socie=es Act 1966) Website: THE SOCIETY The MSORSM was registered as a professional society under Section 7 Societies Act of Malaysia 1966 on 19 th July 1986, under its registration number is 3935/86 (Selangor). It was inaugurated on 5 th October MSORSM is the 36 th national member of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS), 9 th national member of the Asian Pacific Operational Research Societies (APORS), and member of the Confederation of Scientific and Technological Associations of Malaysia (COSTAM). VISION To be a well recognised body representing, promoting and advancing the management science/operations research. MISSION To play the lead role for the advancement of a progressive, well informed management science/operations research community. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the society are: To promote and develop the management science/operations research as an interdisciplinary field. To foster the application, wherever appropriate, in the widest possible exchange of information and ideas on the related subject. To generate a group of actively participative communities for the advancement of management science/operations research discipline.
2 MEMBERSHIP ship Categories Ordinary Associate Student Corporate : Any person who is a practitioner or has a university degree in the management science/operations research may apply for ordinary membership. : Any person who has an interest in the management science/operations research may apply for associate membership. : Any student of tertiary institutions who has an interest in the management sciences may apply for student membership, provided that no university college student shall be accepted as a member without prior written approval from the vice-chancellor concerned. : Any company that is incorporated in Malaysia may apply for corporate membership. Any government organisation and statutory body may also apply for corporate membership. Life member : Any Ordinary contributing the sum of RM at any time may be considered to become a Life. Fellow : Fellowship is awarded at the discretion for the Executive Council to any member for outstanding contribution in the field of management science/operations research. ship Fee Categories Entrance Fee (RM) Annual Subscription (RM) 1. Fellow Ordinary Associate Student Corporate Life Application for membership is made on the ship Application Form. The entrance fee and annual subscription that accompany each membership application form, and shall not be refundable except when an application is rejected.
3 STRATEGIES Positioning into key committees that involve management science/ operations research in the industry. Advancing the practices of management science/operations research through seminars, workshops, discussions and publications for the well-being society at large. Establishing academic and industry linkages for the application of management science/operations research tools. ACTIVITIES To organise an international conference, seminars, IFORS workshops, professional talks, training modules, linkages and collaborations with Operations Research societies worldwide and linkages with industries. To publish newsletters, periodicals, journals, books, circulars and information leaflets after due permission from relevant authorities. To give awards for outstanding academic or professional achievement. To raise funds and to accept gifts, donations of bequests with a view of furthering directly or indirectly the objectives of the Society.
