Candidates must be motivated, self-starters who can work with minimum supervision. There are several major projects that are currently ongoing in the group and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand core geomatics skills while learning first-hand about GIS challenges and opportunities faced by the City of Kingston.. This position is based in the Information Systems & Technology, and may require field work. Qualifications, Competencies MUST BE ENROLLED IN AND RETURNING TO FULL-TIME SECONDARY OR POST SECONDARY STUDIES IN FALL OF Proficiency in, ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and Microsoft Office are essential. A working knowledge of database management is an asset. Excellent communication skills are also required to assist GIS Division with sourcing, selecting and organizing information for inclusion and design the appearance, layout and flow of the emergency management web maps and apps. Create and optimize content for emergency managers using a variety of graphics, database, animation and other software. Assist with coordinating multidisciplinary teams to develop geographic, content, capacity and interactivity. To be considered for this position, applicants must have completed at least the first year of study in a geomatics program (by April 2014) and must be returning to school as a full-time student in survey engineering, GIS or equivalent program in the fall. The applicants should be willing to work in a GIS environment and learn how to collect data in the field suitable for production level web mapping. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in field surveying, map production, as well as database management. This position will require persons who have a high level on concentration, a regard for detail, and can work independently.
