1 Web Media TEC 171 Fall 2014 Instructor: Mr. Frank Radostits Phone: Office: 1410 Free Periods: 3 & 6 COURSE DESCRIPTION Web Media is an introductory experience in website design using project based coursework. Students will develop the technical and creative skills needed to plan, create, and publish interactive web pages. Instruction will include the creation and manipulation of text, graphics, animations, and interactive content through the use of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash. COURSE STANDARDS AND OBJECTIVES Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Technical a. I can code a web page using HTML. b. I can write CSS to style HTML web pages. c. I can use CSS positioning to layout a web page. 2. Design a. I can create and edit images in Photoshop. b. I can create an animation for a web page. c. I can implement the principles of design in a web page design. 3. Development a. I can create a web page using Dreamweaver. b. I can create a website using Muse. c. I can use the design process to create websites. 4. Professionalism a. I conduct myself in a professional manner in class. b. I can manage web files. SPECIFIC COURSE ACTIVITIES 1. Participate in class learning activities. 2. Become a productive member of workgroups. 3. Complete assigned projects. 4. Refine assignments and projects until satisfactory.

2 EVALUATION At the end of the semester each student s final grade will be a composite ranking in each of the course standards. The teacher will use the double majority matrix to make a professional decision based on evidence for the final grade of each standard: Standards Grading Matrix Exceeding EM, M AM, EM AM, M SD, EM EM, AM M, AM AM, SD SD, M M, EM EM, SD M, SD SD, AM The composite rankings and following course mastery grade calculation rules will be used to determine the student s semester grade: (Note: rankings of EM and SD are used to determine + or - within each grade level). A B C D F in 4 standards in 3 standards in 2 standards in 1 standard or in 3 standards in 0 standards ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY You are tardy if you are not in the classroom when your tardy bell rings. The tardy policy in the student guidebook will be followed. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to see me and make arrangements to complete the work in a timely fashion. It is important to realize that you will probably have to spend additional time outside of your normal class time to make up missing work. You will have the number of days you were absent plus one additional day to complete any missed assignments for full credit. Late work may, at my discretion, be given partial credit depending on the assignment and the degree of lateness. MISCELLENEOUS 1. There is no eating or open food in the classroom or lab without the expressed permission of the teacher. Food may be confiscated and discarded at the discretion of the teacher. 2. Use of portable entertainment equipment (MP3 player, phone, gaming devices, etc.) is not allowed in the classroom/lab without teacher permission. 3. Student computer equipment is for educational and instructional use only.
