Mission & Impact Statements Mission Mission Statement: Our mission is to be a Christ-led community of spiritual, emotional, and physical recovery and restoration for those broken by depression, conflict and shame in Middle Tennessee. We seek to provide quality counseling and emotional support to anyone regardless of their ability to pay. Background Branches was born out of a vision to help and the experience of having been helped. In the fall of 2006 the cofounders were reflecting on their own journey of healing and the difficulties they faced in affording and accessing appropriate care. For several years we had been providing counseling and comfort to those with emotional and spiritual distress and little resources. About that time a businessman in time approached us with the offer of a building in Murfreesboro. The stipulation was that the building would be called The Integrity House and that it would be available for 12 Step groups. Both of these things are in keeping with our core values so Branches opened it doors in April of Initially our focus was group therapy, especially 12 Step groups, and counseling for those with sexual addictions. We began immediately to see acceptance by the community and a great need. In the fall of 2007 we were planning a community wide event called Simply Free. Out of that a gifted, state licensed therapist discovered Branches and felt led to join our staff as Clinical Director. Branches began to expand to assist clients with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and marital conflict. Our staff has grown to 8 full time therapists and we see over 800 clients each week. In October of 2008, having outgrown our original location, we signed a 3 year lease/purchase contract for our current location. We have been recognized all over the nation and see clients regularly from across the country. We host a number of support groups each week, do intensives regularly, and provide mental health care to hundreds of people each month. Impact Our accomplishments in the recent past have been gratifying: Branches Counseling Center was designated by the American Red Cross to provide Crisis Debriefing Counseling for the tornado victims of Rutherford County. To date we have seen 31 tornado victims free of charge. We gave away $384,000 in scholarships for counseling this past year. We see over 800 clients per month, most at a reduced rate. In August 2015, having outgrown our previous location, we purchased a wonderful facility in Murfreesboro through funds raised in a Capital Campaign and a grant received from the Christy Houston Foundation. In addition we have satellite locations in Springfield and Lebanon as well as St. Augustine, FL. Branches has been featured in local and national media. We appeared on Life Today with James Robison. We were featured in Who's Who in Rutherford County. We continue to work to tell the Branches story in as many places as possible. In the coming year our goals are: To further develop our offering of support groups. We are seeking to raise public awareness of these groups, broadening the base of healing we have to offer. To develop a fifth location for Branches in the Tullahoma/Manchester area. This will improve our accessibility to those in need. To add 50 more students to our New Life University program. Our mission is to equip others to provide the same healing care that we provide. 2
Needs Our current needs are: Greater scholarship funding. We give away $7500 per week in counseling. We are now seeing over 800 clients each month. Funding this need is an ongoing issue. Capital funds for the purchase of our present building. We need $100,000 as a down payment this year. We need improved technology tools for both counseling and training. We are trying to acquire 8 computers and a fully equipped audio/video cart to do training with our counselors, our students, and to us in therapy session. The projected cost is $25,000. Finally, we are seeking to develop 5 more housing alternatives for intensive clients. We have 3 apartments available to us now. These allow clients with limited resources to come and stay for a week to 2 weeks at a time for focused, intense therapy. We are trying to purchase, have donated, or acquire the use of 5 houses or apartments. Other ways to donate, support, or volunteer Donations may be made by PayPal, donation button on the website or mailing a check to: Branches, 1102 Dow Street., Murfreesboro, TN Volunteer opportunities are available on the website. Service Categories Primary Organization Category Mental Health & Crisis Intervention / Counseling Secondary Organization Category Human Services / Areas of Service Areas Served TN - Rutherford TN - Davidson TN - Wilson TN - Cannon TN - Williamson TN - Robertson Branches serves clients from all over the United States and Canada with intensives, phone and internet coaching, and other forms of contact. Our primary client base however is the mid-south, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, etc. On a daily basis we largely serve the middle Tennessee area, Rutherford, Davidson, Williamson, Wilson, and Bedford counties. CEO Statement Branches is a reflection of my own healing and the blessings and trials of reaching a level of sobriety in my life. I was a pastor for 25 years and during that time suffered from a secret addiction. Ultimately, that addiction cost me my career, my family and nearly my life. By the grace of God and with amazing counselors I found healing and recovery. My marriage was restored. My family has embraced my 12 years of sobriety. From that experience three core values were born. First, we have an unapologetic confidence in both prayer and process, counseling and Christ. We combine the best of standard accepted therapeutic practices with faith, prayer, and a dependence on God. Our counselors uses cognitive behavior therapy, Rogerian talk therapy, and also theophostic prayer and deliverance. We believe we must give our very best trained talents, but no healing happens without God. The second value is the synergy between counseling and community. The very best healing happens in 3
groups. We connect all of our clients to support groups. We offer groups for things like eating disorders, depression, and marriage and family issues. We counsel but we believe in the power of confession, accountability, and acceptance that happens in the group. Finally, we believe that such care should not be restricted only to those who can pay. Often the very emotional and mental disorders that have our clients seeking help have also produce financial devastation in their lives. No one is turned away at Branches. We are in process at Branches. We are trying to get better and more effective every day. But we also surrender our work to our Higher Power and trust Him to do what we cannot. 4
Programs Programs Scholarship Counseling Description We provide quality, faith-based counseling for those dealing with a variety of emotional, mental and spiritual issues. The base client fee is $90 per session. The average payment per client is $55. We average serving 800 client hours each week. Our counselors take reduce payment and Branches supplements the client. This deficit translates into $384,000 annually given in scholarships. Budget Population Served Adults,, Annual cost for Scholarships: $384,000. We average 800 clients per month and the average scholarship per client is $35. Short Term Success Long term Success Program Success Monitored By Examples of Program Success We believe that our counseling provides immediate relief from the pain og depression, anxiety, and addiction, We see a very high percentage of clients who testify to immediate improvement and a confidence in long term healing.we generally expect clients to be in a counseling relationship for 4 to 9 months and after that time more than 90% of our clients have expressed significant improvement. We anticipate long-term improved mental health for our clients, marital difficulties resolved, and addictions broken. We have seen in the past and expect in the future many, many lives dramatically enhanced by being able to access affordable, quality emotional care. We have recently completed a community wide survey done for us by Leadership Rutherford County. This survey provided a clearer insight into the needs and concerns of our constituants. We meet on a bi-weekly basis to go over case files and track our cases against the perceived needs of the community. Because of confidentiality issues it is difficult to relate actual testimonials. We have a catalogue of responses from past clients that describe recovery, restoration, and positive life change. We are developing statistics but are confident of a high number of cases that experience complete and positive change. 5
Support Groups Description Healing comes in community. We seek to offer support groups for a variety of issues. Body Image is an ongoing group for teenage girls struggling with eating disorders. The cost of the group for the client is typically $10. The cost to have a therapist led group is $85. With curriculum, advertising, and overhead, the cost per group is about $1000 per year. We do 10 to 15 groups per year serving as many as clients per week. Budget Category Mental Health, Substance Abuse Population Served Adults,, Short Term Success Long term Success Program Success Monitored By Examples of Program Success we have had a number of support grojups todate with tremendous success. GOOD, Growing Out Of Depression, has been valuable for the consituents and family members as well. Body Image, a group for teenage girls with eating disorders has made a profound difference in the lives of the young participants. Support groups provide an ongoing means of emotional care and comfort in a far more affordable format than traditional counseling. We estimate that 90% or more of our support group clients are prevented from relapse because of their involvement in small groups. We meet on a weeekly basis to evaluate the value and success of each group. Exit interviews are done at the end of each group to monitor effectiveness. Tom, a clinically depressed man, has been in the depression group for nearly a year. This has been the longest he has gone in recent memory without a suicidal episode. Anna, came from an inpatient facility to participate in Body Image. She has gained 10 pounds and graduated from high school last week. 6
Intensives Description Clients come to Branches from all across the country. An intensive provides 1 to 2 weeks of focused, intense treatment combining counseling, groups, training, and spiritual development. The average cost per client is $2800 per week. The average fee paid is $1800. In addition we are seeking to help with the cost of housing by providing low cost alternatives. Budget Category Mental Health, Substance Abuse Substance Abuse Counseling Population Served Adults,, Short Term Success Long term Success Program Success Monitored By We have had great reports of marriages restored, addictions broken, and healing taking place. We have clients come from all over the country with issues like depression, anxiety, infidelity, etc. In these cases, weekly treatment is not possible. In addition they are in deep crisis and need a "quick fix." Our Intensive clients go through in-depth trauma treatment, learn tools and methods of coping. and develop healthy alternatives to life. At the end of each intensive a staff evaluation is done, each client assessed and changes made. CEO Comments Because of confidentiality issues it is difficult to provide anecdotal information about the success of our programs. In addition, the nature of our work makes quantifiable statistics nearly impossible. We can provide upon request a number of letters of testimony from families served and a history of acceptance and appreciation by our geographical and our faith communities. 7
