However, you have a responsibility to take certain precautions to safeguard yourself and your money. If you have any further queries, contact us. Virgin Money Credit Card is committed to making sure that your online experience is safe and secure. There are multiple levels of security, and state-ofthe-art internet technology, beginning with your browser and ending with our own security infrastructure to ensure that access to your account is private and secure.
1. Search Engines Virgin Money Credit Card allows search engines to access or index material contained within the public site, namely, Search engines cannot access or index material contained in any password/pin protected sections of this website, these sections include saved online application forms and Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking. 2. Online Applications When you apply online for accounts or services, or register for Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking, you provide personal information that is necessary for Virgin Money Credit Card to process your application. All customer information Virgin Money Credit Card collects is protected against unauthorised access. To ensure that your application remains confidential, Virgin Money Credit Card uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL technology) for transferring data. This technology encrypts (scrambles) your account information, so it is virtually impossible for anyone other than Virgin Money Credit Card to read it while being transmitted over the internet. After submitting an application online, Virgin Money Credit Card strongly recommends that you end or close your browser session before leaving your computer. 3. Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking Security Measures 3.1 Access Number, PIN and Password You can only use the service if you have registered for it using your access account number your credit card number- and your own PIN. A password will also need to be selected for enhanced security. Once you have logged in to Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking using your access number and PIN you will be required to enter certain digits of the password. This is to ensure that not all your login information is displayed, to help combat identity fraud. We will also display the last time you successfully logged in to your service. 3.2 Keypad To help combat identity fraud you can make use of the online keypad provided on the login screen to enter your access details. 3.3 Security Violation You only have 3 opportunities to enter your PIN correctly. After the 3rd unsuccessful attempt, you will be denied access to the service. To reset your PIN, you will need to phone the contact centre. You can reset your password online if you originally chose this functionality upon setting up your password. 3.4 Timeout If you log in and don't use the service for 4 minutes, you will be logged out. To access your accounts again, you will need to LOGIN again.
3.5 Advanced encryption software Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking uses the most advanced internationally accepted standards of encryption technology. At present this is 128-bit encryption built into the browsers. Therefore, it is always in your best interest to update your browser to the latest released version. We do advise the use of Beta versions of browsers. 3.6 Firewalls Virgin Money s Credit Card Online Banking makes use of multiple firewalls to ensure that only clients with valid access credentials can access the service. 3.7 Verisign Security Certificates Verisign, a public key certificate issuer, has endorsed Virgin Money Credit Cards Online Banking site as a secure and encrypted transactional banking site, and has issued Virgin Money Credit Card Online Banking with a certificate to that effect. The Lock and Key icon that appears that the top or the bottom of your browser is indicative of this and you can click this icon for more information on the security certificate. 4. Lost, Stolen or Suspicion of Fraud Should you need to report your Virgin Money Credit Card as lost or stolen, or need any further information, contact us. 5. Protect Yourself There are a number of security measures that you can practice to ensure that you are not the victim of internet fraudsters. 5.1 Measures to improve online security Always keep your personal access information secure, and change your PIN and passwords regularly and keep them a secret It is important to ensure that you are at the Virgin Money Credit Card website. Check the Virgin Money Credit Card Security Certificate Never save or write down your passwords - as it may allow others to access your personal information, without your permission Do not make your passwords too personal - rather create passwords that have letters and numbers that cannot be attributed to you. Beware of s that ask for passwords, PINS, credit and debit card information Make sure no one has unauthorised access to your computer. Be especially aware that there are no security cameras trained on your computer and keyboard Only provide your credit card details to reputable companies. To ensure that you are using a secure shopping site, look for the lock and key and security certificates online
Never open on a link or an attachment within an claiming to be from Virgin Money Credit Card as this may link to a fraudulent website or download a virus or key logging software that will compromise your security. Rather log on to directly, by typing the address into your browser Be aware that phishing scams have also been received through instant messaging systems such as GoogleTalk or Skype; as well as through Social Networking websites such as Facebook. When in doubt of the authenticity of a link or a claim, simply don t click it Install good quality security software and ensure that you have updated to the latest version of your browser. Most of the newer browsers have the inherent ability of detecting fraudulent websites Don t bank or shop online when using a public terminal such as those found in internet cafes, hotels, coffee shops or student labs. Keylogging software could be present on the computer, and will send all your personal information through to the fraudster, who could then use this information to clear out your account Before you bank online, ensure that you are actually within the secure online banking website. Once you visit and click on the Online Banking link, you will be redirected to an available banking server. Once there, check the browser address. It should begin with (not ). Also check the browser for a closed lock and/or key icon which should either be at the top or the bottom of the screen When leaving your computer, always end the current session by closing your browser window, and never leave your computer unattended during an Online Banking session 5.2 ATM Security Never give your card or PIN (Personal Identification Number) to anyone, for any reason. Not even to Virgin Money Credit Card. Also, don't write your PIN on the card or anything that is kept with the card. Do not insert your card until asked to do so by the display screen. Never use an ATM with a blank screen and, if the ATM is obscured from view or poorly lit, leave immediately and find another ATM. Remember that you use an ATM at your own risk. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully Avoid drawing cash late at night or when you are alone Do not force your card into the card slot Leave the ATM immediately if you don't feel safe Set your daily ATM withdrawal limit at your branch Be alert and conscious of your surroundings when using an ATM
Stand close to the ATM and use your body and hands as a shield to make sure nobody sees you keying in your PIN. Also, make sure you keep your hand over the card slot to make sure nobody can swop or take your card Never hurry when using an ATM. Make sure you are not distracted, intimidated or rushed into your transaction Never accept help from strangers when using an ATM. You should be wary of strangers asking for help. Criminals work in teams - one to distract you while the other steals your card or money If your card is retained (swallowed) by the ATM, it is a good idea to contact us and stop your card. This number must also be phoned immediately if your card is lost or stolen Never allow a bystander to call the toll-free stop card line on your behalf - they could be tricking you into thinking your card has been stopped Guards are placed at ATM's to discourage criminal activities and therefore cannot help you with transactions. If you need help, ask a bank official 6. Types of Fraud 6.1 Phishing Scams Phishing scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated as fraudsters will stop at nothing to steal your money. It is very easy to panic when you receive an that says your account has been compromised. Fraudsters rely on this panic to ensure that their victims will react by clicking on links and entering their personal details to ensure that their money is secure. For this reason, whenever you receive an , SMS or phone call that seems even slightly out of the norm, you should query it. Those five minutes could prevent you from becoming a victim of fraud. These tips will also come in handy: Always check that you are on a secure website (watch out for https in the internet address bar at the top of your internet browser) Always log off properly whenever you finish banking online Never reply to phishing scams rather forward them onto your bank Never open attachments on s claiming to come from your bank they could contain viruses or spyware that could track your keystrokes and gather your personal information scams Those incidents of Advance Fee Fraud or Nigerian 419 "scams" that come to the attention of Virgin Money Credit Card, where the name of our bank
or its employees are misrepresented are reported to the South African Police Service who have a specialized unit dealing with this type of crime.
