March 30, 2016 ~ September 14, 2016 Time: 5:15 8:30 pm Counseling Basics 101 Counseling Basics 101 is designed to continue the ethical and legal professional development of counselors. Special focus on the topics of Co-Dependency, Transference and Counter-Transference and how these affect the counseling relationship. The importance of being a culturally competent professional will be discussed as well. Discussion on what core treatment components differing levels of counselor licensing allows will also be presented. (Counts towards 3.0 hours of Ethics) CDCA Requirement: Professionalism (3 hours) April 1, 2016 ~ September 16, 2016 Time: 8:30 11:45 am The Professional Chemical Dependency Counselor Instructor: Wendy Hunter The Professional Chemical Dependency counselor plays a vital role in the recovery of those clients whose lives have been impacted by alcohol and drug use. This program is designed to meet the needs of those wishing to develop themselves into an ethical and legal chemical dependency professional. Identifying the Moral Principles involved in counseling, learning appropriate boundary skills along with the ethical guidelines of practice will be presented. (Counts towards 3.0 hours of Ethics) CDCA Requirement: Professionalism (3 hours) April 6, 2016 ~ September 21, 2016 Time: 5:15pm 8:30pm Effective Documentation Instructor: Kristen Petrilla Effective documentation skills play a role in all facets of treatment from intake, assessment to payment for claims. Counselors typically develop their own style of documentation that at times may not meet all standards set forth by OhioMHAS. Through hands on experiential learning, participants will gain an understanding of the OhioMHAS standards and effective documentation styles for assessment, individual and groups notes along with discharge summaries. Attendees will gain an understanding of the golden thread that weaves form assessment through treatment planning to the discharge summary. CDCA requirement: Documentation (3.0 hours)

2 April 8, 2016 **Location to be announced ~ September 23, 2016 Time: 8:30am 11:45am Substances of Abuse This training provides an excellent overview of substances of abuse and their effect on the brain. There are changes that occur immediately and over time as alcohol and / or drug use progresses. Those effects play a role in understanding triggers in the relapse process. Special attention will be devoted to prescription drug abuse, opiate dependency and new designer drugs such as K-2 (Spice) and Bath Salts. Historical and current trends in prevention and drug enforcement will be presented. CDCA Requirement: Addiction Knowledge (3.0 hours) April 13, 2016 ~ September 28, 2016 Time: 5:15pm - 8:30pm Addiction Knowledge and Treatment This training will provide attendees with historical and contemporary models and theories of addiction. The importance of identifying bio-psychosocial, cultural and spiritual factors associated with addiction is discussed. An emphasis is placed on the relationship that is built with substances of abuse as person progresses in their disease. The stigma of addiction, the impact of television shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Intervention are discussed. CDCA Requirement: Addiction Knowledge (3.0 hours) April 15, 2016 ~ September 30, 2016 Time: 8:30am 11:45am Diagnosis of Substance Use Disorders Instructor: Harry Lowers Attendees will gain a clear understanding of not only the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic signs and symptoms of abuse and dependency but how to ask questions to gain the most accurate answers. Using the components of the SOQIC diagnostic adult and adolescent assessment, counselors will gain an understanding of each area and how the information obtained goes into an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendation. Screening tools such as the MAST, AUDIT and DAST will also be presented as collateral information to the diagnostic interview. (includes for Diagnosis) CDCA Requirement: Evaluation (3.0 hours) April 20, 2016 ~ October 5, 2016 Time: 5:15 pm 8:30 pm The Recovery Process The Recovery Process is not a 30, 60 or 90 day process. Counselors need to learn ways to assist clients in self- motivation talk that they can use during and after the therapeutic relationship ends. The development of a relationship with recovery tools is investigated. How to create testable, observable and measurable treatment plans from the diagnostic assessment with the client driving the process is discussed along with outcome measures. The increasing use of medication assisted treatment methods is continued. CDCA Requirement: Treatment Knowledge (3.0 hours)

3 April 22, 2016 ~ October 7, 2016 Time: 8:30 am 11:45 am The Principles of Treatment: Stages of Change Increasing Treatment Knowledge through an understanding of philosophies, practices, policies and outcomes of evidence based treatment methods is essential to the professional counselor. A working definition of the processes of recovery and relapse are provided and discussed along with objective definitions of the Stages of Change. The importance of the therapeutic relationship is a focus of this session. CDCA Requirement: Treatment Knowledge (3.0 hours) April 27, 2016 **Location to be announced ~ October 12, 2016 Time: 5:15 pm 8:30 pm Evidence Based Treatment Approaches Increased Treatment Knowledge by gaining a thorough understanding of what is considered an evidence based treatment method is vital to successful outcomes. Factors influencing treatment recommendations such as client characteristics, goals, financial resources of both client and agency are discussed. The selection of the appropriate level of care and the right time is discussed. A conversation on the value of Community Recovery Centers and the 12 Step Community is also presented. An introduction to Medication Assisted Treatment is covered. CDCA Requirement: Treatment Knowledge (3.0 hours) April 29, 2016 ~ October 14, 2016 Time: 8:30 am 12:45 pm The Coordination of Care The importance of service coordination including areas such as case management, discharge planning, continual assessment of client needs and client advocacy are the focus of this training. Communicating with referral sources, gathering collateral information is an important aspect of the Coordination of Care. The continual assessment of the client allows for meeting additional needs as a person works through the recovery process. The role of the family is introduced. 4.0 RCHs CDCA Requirement: Service Coordination (4.0 hours) May 4, 2016 ~ October 19, 2016 Time: 5:15 pm 8:30 pm Counseling Theories and Techniques PCC Theories and Techniques of Counseling provide a needed foundation for all counselors. This training is designed to review the primary counseling theories including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavior, Solution Focused and Client Centered approaches. How each of these theories view the client is an important aspect of techniques used in the therapeutic relationship. Primary techniques will be taught through education and role play. CDCA Requirement: Individual Counseling (3.0 hours)

4 May 6, 2016 ~ October 21, 2016 Time: 8:30 am 10:45 am Individual Counseling Strategies The utilization of counseling techniques in the treatment of psychoactive substance use and dependency is essential. Historical and contemporary models of treatment, working through defense mechanisms, transference, counter-transference are discussed. Motivational Interviewing Techniques will be utilized through role play and discussion in mock individual counseling sessions 2.0 RCHs CDCA Requirement: Individual Counseling (2.0 hours) May 11, 2016 ~ October 26, 2016 Time: 5:15pm - 8:30pm Group Counseling Processes Group counseling has been found to be an effective method for treating substance use issues. Whether providing psycho-education or true therapy sessions, there are significant benefits to the utilization of groups. This training focuses on group formation, techniques and attitudes of both counselor and client that can lead to successful outcomes. The roles of group members, group leader and the benefit of cofacilitation are presented. Some role play takes place and sets the attendees up for the follow-up training. CDCA Requirement: Group Counseling (3.0 hours) May 13, 2016 ~ October 28, 2016 Time: 9:00am 11:15am The Group Experience During The Group Experience, attendees will learn how to develop strategies for conducting their psycho-educational group and therapy group. Time will be spent co-facilitating a group as a role play and discussing the benefits. 2.0 RCHs CDCA Requirement: Group counseling (2.0 hours)

Unless noted otherwise, all classes are held at the Goodwill Industries Campus 408 9th St. SW, Canton, OH The CDCA program consists of 14 classes covering the 8 educational content areas as required by OCDP. Each workshop has been approved for the noted hours by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Fee, Cancellation, and Refund Policy Each individual class is $45. Registration for all 14 classes in the series is $500. You may cancel your registration any time up to 3 days before a workshop and receive a full refund or credit to an upcoming workshop. We require prior notification if you are unable to attend a workshop that you have pre-registered. We cannot honor a refund or workshop credit if you no-show to a workshop that has already been paid. In the event that a workshop is cancelled by Pyramid Training Services due to inclement weather, facility problem, etc. you will receive a full refund or credit for a future workshop, whichever you desire. Payment is required before each workshop. If you are using a Purchase Order and payment is not received prior to a workshop, or for some reason you are not able to pay for a workshop until after the event, you will not receive a certificate until payment is received.
