2 AMBROSE, Simon Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association Simon Ambrose with a background in both, Agricultural and Arts Business, has been the CEO of the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association (AMRTA) since April 2010 prior to that he was the Director of the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Director of the McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park and General Manager of the Interact Asia Pacific Multimedia Festival in Victoria. He has also worked in film and arts related organisations in Western Australia. He represents the tourism industry in Western Australia as a Tourism Committee member of the South West Development Commission, as a Committee member of the Margaret River Geographe Tourism Task Force and sits on Tourism Western Australia s Marketing Advisory Panel. On a national level, Simon is an Executive Board member and Secretary of the Australian Regional Tourism Network. As CEO of the AMRTA he leads a multifaceted organisation with over 500 members and 60 staff that is one of the few Australian tourism associations which operate without government funding (excluding project grants). AMRTA prides itself on having a unique business model operating as a self supporting, highly successful non-profit organisation. Established in 1957, AMRTA first opened a visitor centre in Augusta then one in Margaret River. Following incorporation, the Federal Government vested Lake, Mammoth and Jewel Caves into its care and it also operates Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse through a DEC lease. In late 2008, the AMRTA opened its third visitor centre, a satellite office, in Perth. Today, the income generated from the AMRTA s attractions, accommodation and tour bookings, retail, membership subscriptions and promotional campaigns, provide a strong revenue base that underpins its sustainability and financial independence and provides resources to market the region worldwide. The organisation is committed to innovation, excellence and spirit of enterprise and its continued focus on online innovation has enabled the AMRTA s official global web address, to develop as the region s most comprehensive and powerful online tourism resource.
3 BARR, Tracy Visitor Centre Association WA With over 20 years in the Tourism/Hospitality Industry with the last eight years in management of Visitor Centres in Western Australia, I have worked my way up through the ranks and have experienced a broad range of tourism product and services from all angles. I am currently employed as the Business Development Manager for the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association and concurrently am the Chairperson on the Visitor Centre Association of WA. I have held this position for one year (of a two year term), following my role as Vice Chair for the previous two years. This is a volunteer role which allows me to extend the reach of my skills and experience to benefit the 102 Visitor Centres throughout WA. Prior to entering the visitor servicing industry I worked in a variety of hotel and hospitality roles throughout the world, at both management and ground floor levels. Combined with knowledge of accounts and best business practice, I bring these diverse skills together to help create strategic and operational plans that have results based outcomes and work within the limited resources often available within this industry. I have an enthusiasm and drive to further the Visitor Servicing industry within WA and feel that this vital service is currently under represented within the key tourism bodies throughout the state. This industry needs a voice to represent this group who collectively link to over 4500 tourism operators throughout WA. Visitor Centres deal directly with travelling sector and, with the correct approach, have the ability to turn passive visitors into active ambassadors for the state s tourism industry and its operators.
4 HILL, Andrew Crown Perth Chief Operating Officer Hotels & Entertainment Crown Perth PO Box 500 Victoria Park 6979 Phone: Andrew Hill is Chief Operating Officer Hotels & Entertainment at Crown Perth. Appointed COO in 2008, he previously held the position of Executive General Manager, Catering & Entertainment at Crown Perth (formally Burswood Entertainment Complex) since his arrival from Crown Melbourne in 2005 where he held the position of Director of Catering. Andrew has been a Board member of the Tourism Council of Western Australia for the last seven years enjoying the strategic challenges of Board involvement in the development of the industry in Western Australia. As COO of WA s largest single site, private sector employer, Andrew is actively involved in the promotion of tourism on a daily basis and acts a mentor and role-model to a cross section of his 2,600 strong hospitality team, across Crown Perth s two hotels, thirty one restaurants and bars, nightclub, convention centre, property services, theatre and show facilities. I meet apprentice chefs and front office staff just starting out in their careers and it makes me very determined that we educate these professionals of tomorrow in the right way. Hospitality is demanding but rewarding and Western Australia has so much to offer. Crown s vision is to create a world-class tourism destination and I am proud to be part of the strategic committee in achieving this goal. Tourism surrounds us and we need to promote the strong natural attractions that WA is famous for. Crown Perth partners with Tourism Council Western Australia as venue sponsor of the West Australian Tourism Awards and through long-standing relationships with AFL teams and the Super 15 Rugby, Crown helps build visitation to the state by supporting growth of these sporting codes. Crown also sponsors Movies by Burswood during the summer months in Burswood Park attracting more than 1,000 people per night many of which are visitors to W.A By continually investing in and supporting the Conventions & Events product, Crown Perth promotes Western Australia as a viable conventions destination. By hosting international headline acts in both the Crown Theatre and Dome, and working in partnership with East Coast promoters, both the venue and destination is promoted at local, intra and inter-state levels. Andrew also sits on the Tourism Committee for the Perth Chamber of Commerce and Industry (six years). He is married to Danielle and they have two sons named Harrison Samuel and Lachlan Mitchell.
