2 Installation The Mobile Entrée (ME) installer will install and deploy the solution as well as activate the features you choose to use. It will also start timer jobs on each of the web-front-end servers to activate a trial license. To install Mobile Entrée: The.NET Framework 3.5 must be installed on all the servers in your farm; You must have farm administrator permissions; You must have write access to the SharePoint Configuration Database; The SharePoint Timer Service must be running; The SharePoint Administration service must be running. Obtaining the Installer All editions of Mobile Entrée are included in a single installer that can be found at Here you will be presented with a customer information form to fill out in order to download the installer. After filling out the form and submitting, you will be presented with a download link to download the latest installation package contained within a Zip file. Installation Using the Installer 1. From any computer in your farm, unzip and launch Installer that you downloaded from the previous section. 2. You will be presented with the Mobile Entrée Server installer. Click Next. 3. The system check will run through to ensure your install will be successful. Click Next. 4. Read through and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement. Click Next 5. Select the Web Applications to which you will deploy Mobile Entrée. Click Next. 6. Select the Web Applications on which to activate the Mobile Entrée HTTP Modules Feature (For more information on the HTTP Modules, see the Mobile Entrée Installation and Farm Configuration Guide). Click Next. 7. After installation has completed, click Close. After completing the installation, Mobile Entrée will be deployed to your SharePoint Web Applications: however, you will need to follow additional steps (below) to configure mobile access to the individual SharePoint sites. Site Configuration The ME SharePoint Solution as deployed by the ME installer includes out-of-the-box mobile applications, a development API, and Administration and Configuration pages. Configuration of mobile access is done on a per-site basis as the content from site to site can vary widely. The default mobile applications that come installed with ME are designed to provide you with a wide range of functionality covering Collaboration and Business Intelligence Feature Activation Activation of the Mobile Entrée Base feature is required on any site that you wish to be mobile-enabled. It contains the framework used by any ME mobile app as well as the default mobile applications that provide out-of-the-box configurable access to SharePoint lists, document libraries and other content.

3 Mobile Apps included in the ME Base Feature: o Mobile Entrée Base Comprehensive access to Lists & Libraries o MDS Viewer Connects to Excel documents to create mobile dashboards o Content Navigator Turns List content into browseable pages. A default Mobile Application is automatically created when the ME Base Feature is activated. The site template that was used to create the site determines the default ME configuration. Upon Activation, a link to Mobile Entrée Configuration shows up under the Site Actions menu To activate the Mobile Entrée Base feature, follow these steps 1. From you SharePoint site, browse to Site Actions -> Site Settings 2. Under Site Actions, click Manage Site Features 3. Activate the Mobile Entrée Base Feature Once activated, you are now ready to configure your content for mobile access. Browse to Site Actions -> Mobile Entrée Configuration to start!

4 Definition of a Mobile Application in Mobile Entrée You can think of mobile apps within ME much like webparts in SharePoint. A single definition of a mobile app can be created and configured multiple times on any given site. We call these Mobile Application Instances. You can even configure multiple instances of the same mobile application on a single site in order to group content, as you see fit, into different mobile apps for your users. Configuring the Base Application The Mobile Entrée Base Application is a mobile application that provides out-of-the-box configurable access to SharePoint lists, document libraries, discussion boards, surveys, and search without having to write any code. It makes available a set of configuration pages for determining how and what mobile content gets rendered to the users. Depending on the site template that was used to create the site you are configuring, an instance of the Base Application may already be created. All mobile application instances are listed on the left panel Inside the Mobile Entrée Configuration screen, under Application Config. If an instance of the Mobile Entrée Base applications already exists, it will be listed there, otherwise follow these instructions to create your ME Base instance: 1. On the left rail of the Mobile Entrée Configuration -> Application Config screen, click New Mobile Application Instance. 2. In the dialogue window, select the Mobile Entrée Base Application 3. Enter a title and description appropriate for your site 4. Click Save Once created, you can change the Title, Description and other properties on the Properties & Targeting tab of the app. You can also reorder the applications (default is the first app) by grabbing the tab to the left of the app nameplate and dragging up or down. Selecting Content for Mobile For the Base Application, the majority of configuration settings are under the Base Config tab, next to Properties & Targeting. Under this tab you will see a number of other tabs that allow you to configure which content is rendered by this application. For example, to add a list: 1. Click on the Lists tab 2. Under Select Lists and Views click Add Content 3. In the Dialogue, select the list you wish to add 4. Under Views and Options, select the views you will to be mobile enabled The view will determine the order in which the fields of the list show up. This is important as the Index View Fields number will display 1, 2, or 3 fields, in that order, when looking at the list of items. Note, you can of course modify the sharepoint view to determine which fields you want for the index view 5. Click OK You may also reorder the content by dragging them up/down on the screen of configured lists.

5 Adding a Home Screen View A Home Screen View is a window of content that will be surfaced on the home screen of the Base Application. You can think of this f like a webpart on a page. For example, you can display all of a user s pending tasks by surfacing the My Tasks view like so: 1. With your Mobile Entrée Base application instance selected, open the Home Screen tab 2. Click New Home Screen View 3. In the dialogue, select SharePoint List 4. Select the Tasks list 5. Select the My Tasks view 6. Select Index View Fields and a Row Limit 7. Click OK Once created, you can also reorder the sections of the home screen from this interface. Branding A new feature of ME4 is the ability to specify custom styles for the mobile interface without having to package up and deploy a theme package (WSP). Mobile Entrée Themes are still supported and are a good option for tighter control over the branding assets. All site-based branding configuration is done through Mobile Entrée Configuration under the Site Config -> Brand and Footer tab. You can specify custom properties on each web in your site collection, or you can set them at the root level and inherit those properties on each sub web. Updating Header & Footer The Brand Image URL is simply a URL to the image that you wish to use as the header of your application. The only requirement is that the image is 50px tall. The Footer Text will show up on every page within your site. This text can be specified as HTML to include links and/or images. Adding Custom CSS The custom CSS property points to a CSS file that will be included for the site. The default property is a commented template that you can copy and use as a starting point for this customization. You can upload your custom CSS file to any document library and simply copy the URL and put it in this property. Excel Add-In for Mobile BI Mobile Entrée provides an add-in to Excel 2007/2010 that will allow you to access portions of your Excel document from your phone. This functionality requires Excel Services to be configured on your SharePoint farm and also requires an Add-in to be installed on the Excel client on your desktop. Installation In order to install the Mobile Entrée Add-in for Excel, you must have access to a SharePoint site that has Mobile Entrée already installed and activated. Follow these steps to install the add-in

6 1. Browse to the Mobile Entrée Configuration page of your site 2. Click on the Site Config button at the top of the page 3. Under Installation Information tab, click the link to Download the Installer for the Excel Add-in 4. Select to Run the program 5. Complete the installation and you are finished! Creating Mobile Dashboards in Excel Once installed, the add-in will allow you to select portions of your Excel documents to be viewed on mobile phones and tablets as mobile dashboards. These configurations are stored within the Excel documents themselves, so all you need to do for deployment is to save them to a Document Library in SharePoint. When a user browses to that document using Mobile Entrée, they will be presented with the mobile views that were configured using the add-in. When you open Excel, the add-in is located under the Insert tab, labeled Mobile View Configuration. Clicking this button will open a task pane that will allow you to create the various mobile item types. You can reorder, create and delete items by right-clicking them in the task pane. Testing Your Mobile Entrée Configuration During the course of your Mobile Entrée implementation, you will find it necessary to test your installation. While we recommend you test with the actual mobile devices you expect to be using, the most efficient way to test your Base Plugin configuration as well as any custom mobile applications you are building is to do so using a desktop browser with the capability to swiftly change its user agent. Both Safari and Chrome provide the capability to easily switch among a variety of desktop and mobile user agents. Test Using Safari Safari holds the benefit of providing an almost identical experience to that on the iphone/ipad. Follow these steps to get your test environment set up using Apple Safari: 1. Download and install Apple Safari from 2. Launch Safari.

7 3. From the settings menu select "Preferences." 4. From the Advanced tab, check the box to show the Develop menu in the menu bar.

8 5. Be sure that the menu bar is visible. You can do so from the settings menu. 6. From the Develop menu, change your User Agent to Mobile Safari - iphone.

9 Test Using Chrome While Safari and IE9 provide virtually identical experiences between their respective desktop and mobile environments, it is worth mentioning that Google Chrome is NOT currently the default browser for Android devices. Follow these steps to get your test environment set up using Google Chrome: 1. Download and install Google Chrome from 2. Launch Chrome. 3. Open the Developer Tools (shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, Command - Option - I on Mac OS X) by clicking "Customize"(wrench icon) --> "Tools" --> "Developer Tools." 4. Click the "Settings" icon at the bottom of the window.

10 5. Check "override user agent" and select one of the options (iphone, ipad or Nexus S running Android 2.3). You can also select "other" and enter a custom user agent. Test Using Real Mobile Devices Testing Mobile Entrée using the actual mobile devices anticipated in the user environment is highly recommended.
