6 Scheduling: some facts Our average teacher load did not change from to and is about 105 students per teacher. This does not include the PE teachers, whose average load is 199 students. The average class size, including all teachers and classes, is 20.2 students per section.

7 Class Size Outliers There are 21 individual sections with >25 students (4.2%). o Of those, three are courses with only one section: AP Physics, Band, Chorus. There are 32 individual sections with <=14 students (6.3%). o Of those, four are single section courses: Economics Accelerated, AP French/French V, Ceramics II, Advanced Programming

8 Scheduling: Some Numbers Study Halls: Student time in study hall has been reduced from an average of 5x per 7-day cycle on average to 3x per cycle. Despite a fairly constant number of students, individual studies have been reduced by 43% : 39 studies with > 100 students : 1 study with > 100 students

10 What has that time meant to staff? We have been able to reconfigure duty schedules. All teachers have PLC/common plan periods with a grade and/or subject-level team at least once per cycle; some have multiple plans. The Academic Success Center is staffed by faculty 32 of the 42 periods of the weekly schedule.

11 Grade 8-9 Transition The Honors Test, after much discussion and effort, was eliminated for placement. The middle school and high school identified skills relevant to disciplines and individual learners to support appropriate placement. The placements, as recommended, have been successful at the high school -and just as reliable as before the test.

12 Steps for this Year The two schools leadership and teachers will collaborate on calibrating expectations: Looking at exemplar student work Discussion of placement successes and reasons why Identifying specific areas for improvements

13 Other Considerations for Adding the second year of the PLTW Biomedical framework and creating a Capstone project pilot for engineering students Integrating recommendations of the Wellness and World Language curriculum review committees Continuing to evolve co-teaching model to support all learners Considering the whole student in terms of individual scheduling

16 Next Steps Building on past achievements: Remain focused on reducing the number of singlesection courses while improving (and increasing) the number of total courses we offer. Make some programmatic changes to courses taken traditionally in the junior/senior year. Continue to prioritize Common Planning/PLC time. Balancing the class sizes and teacher load more effectively Adhering to scheduling timeline, particularly with course registrations from grade 8-9
