3 Today s Leaders Akron Public Schools offers unique programs designed for every student! Parents love giving their child the best start in school with free all-day kindergarten. To help children grow and learn, a free breakfast and free lunch is served to all students. Parents also appreciate the many customized educational opportunities designed to fit each student s needs whether it s special programming or special education, accelerated learning for the gifted, creative outlets for the talented, and even learning outside of the traditional classroom. APS offers many unique programs not found at other area schools including The Akron School for the Arts, two dedicated STEM schools, AkronReads tutoring, an International Baccalaureate program, more than 30 Career Education subjects, and opportunities to earn a high school diploma and college credit at the same time! AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS is a great choice for educating your child!
4 School Meals Starting in , every APS student began enjoying a FREE breakfast AND FREE lunch. This tasty, new program is available through the federal Community Eligibility Option (CEO) and will cover the full cost of serving meals at no charge to the district. Meal applications will not be required for any student. After-School Programs After-school hours can be a critical time for youth. At APS, our students can use this time to learn and grow. Students who participate show higher levels of achievement, display more self-confidence and enjoy a safe place to learn when the school day is over. APS offers amazing after-school enrichment activities in 27 elementary schools and three middle schools, including one-on-one tutoring, golf, drama club and more! After-school programs benefit children, their families, schools and the whole community. ALL-DAY KINDERGARTEN is important to a child s success in school. Free All-Day Kindergarten Akron Public Schools offers FREE all-day kindergarten with small class sizes in all its elementary schools. Studies show children who attend full-day kindergarten benefit academically, developmentally and socially. Children show more independent learning, classroom involvement and productivity in work with peers. Early Learning Program The Early Learning Program (ELP) provides educational opportunities for children ages 3-5. The program integrates special-needs students with typically developing children and incorporates developmentally appropriate curriculum and supplemental services. Children have the opportunity to interact and learn from one another. Uniforms Students in grades K-8 are required to wear uniform attire. Parents like the cost savings, and teachers feel that uniforms instill pride and improve behavior. High school students follow a district-wide dress code.
