2 Croatian Forests Ltd. state company which manages with the state forests and has a large number of vehicles and machinery. launched and financed a joint project with the Faculty of Forestry in order to optimize vehicle using and reduce costs through better work organization. First step was the settings of the requirements with the aim of defining the characteristics and development (software and hardware) of commercial system for remote monitoring (FMS) of the characteristic group vehicles and machinery. Vehicle tracking demands are going to be tailored to the specifics of their use in forestry, according to a group of companies whose role is to implement the project (Rasco Ltd. - software, Mobilisis Ltd. - hardware and HT- data transfer).

7 Vehicles are currently monitored through a web application on their basic functions such as: current position (GPS), fuel consumption, velocity, rpm and work detection of hydraulic cranes.

12 Calibration of the sensors to give the correct information of measuring Calibration of the probe for measuring the fuel level is carried in the tank.

13 In the first part of the research on forwarder, fuel consumption was measured using a differential fuel flow measuring device. Such a device for measuring fuel consumption is much more accurate than a probe and therefore more suitable for scientific research because it can determine fuel consumption very accurate for each operating mode of the machine separately.

14 The advantage of the probeis that the FMS prevents fuel handling by drivers and residents at a time when the vehicle is left in the woods outside of business hours. The system is designed so that the sudden drop of the fuel level in the tank with alarm warns the person which have a control of the vehicle and that is most likely during the theft of fuel.

16 Two new truck unitswhich both have the ability to measure the mass of logs that are transported using the sensors that register changes of pressure in the airbags in the rear truck axles and axles of the trailer. Like all other transducers, pressure sensors also must be calibrated with known weight and that is currently in the process.

18 Truck units Concerning the timber transport with truck units, next to the mass of logs being transported, a very important application of the FMS is the ability to optimize the timber transport. Based on knowledge of the exact position of the truck unit together with the position of landing as the place of dispatch logs and location of delivery and customer, truck units will be coordinated in a way that each of them to better use, i.e., after performing, a truck unit transport will take so called return tours.

23 Conclusion During these few months of trial using of the FMS, although the system as such has not been completed as far as creating web applications and special reports for each category of special vehicles, leading figures from the company are very satisfied with the work of the same and with optimism announce the continuation of the installation on all other vehicles which enterprise owned.
