12 ABOUT AMOUR Amour joined the film industry as a Set Assistant in By 1995 she was directing Music Videos and TV Commercials and proceeded to spend the next 11 years working freelance in the industry as a Director and Producer. In 2006 she felt the need to start offering once-off crash courses in film production as she felt the newbies coming into the industry were very ill-equipped to deal with the pressures. But her courses became so popular that she formed a film school which began attracting international students. Amour decided to convert the school to an internet-based school at the end of 2011 to be able to offer her amazing courses to students around the world. She then relocated to Thailand to spend 2012 making an international film, and building a film production company in Southeast Asia. During 2012 Amour won a prestigious international film award in the USA for a Chevrolet TV ad she directed. The film school has become so popular that Amour now receives registrations from the USA, Canada, Sweden, Germany, India and Australia, to name a few countries. In August 2013 Amour took up the position as Executive Producer for Production Inc, a global film company in Los Angeles (producers of Quentin Tarantino s Hostel. In 2014 Amour relocated to Prague, Czech Republic where she currently runs an international film production company. You can view Amour s film company website here and read about what others have said of their working experiences with her: 12
13 STUDENT COMMENTS "Amour is an inspirational teacher and, if you let her, she'll nurture you, she'll open up a whole new world for you, and she'll show you that nothing is impossible!" Sabine Bittle, Award-winner for Best Film, TEF OSCARS, June 2007 Even in a short space of time you can truly understand what makes the industry tick and how the cogs fit. Amour empowers students to tackle this intimidating world with a guerrilla style of filming where the student is the master creator and the sole carrier of responsibility the experience of which is the only true teacher when it comes to finding viable work. Confidence, while humble, and a thirst for knowledge will take any student very far. Trust Amour to equip you with the basic and important skills! Kejenne Beard, International Award-winning student filmmaker, Reelshow International, 2008 "I've found the course extremely valuable. I've learned so much in this short space of time, it added such a great deal to my life's journey, my development as an individual and it's put me in touch with my dreams. Thanks for contributing to my life and enhancing my self-confidence on this TV Presenters Course!" Jonalton Cloete "The course was truly mind-blowing. I never thought that there could be so much detail to consider in filmmaking. Thank you Amour for the unselfish way in which you shared your knowledge and expertise. " David Cornelson I think as a writer one forgets that this is a craft that requires you to learn, grow and stretch yourself. You can be given invaluable tools on a course like the 12 week Screenwriting Course from experts like Amour, but ultimately you shape your ability and success by what you put in. Through this course I learned about conflict, DRAMA, what makes characters lovable, repulsive but most importantly believable and multi-dimensional. It has led me to one conclusion: I will be keeping my training material nearby for on-going revision, relearning and referencing. You never stop learning about your craft. Mark Scheepers I really appreciate your selfless way of sharing what you know with us. The Producers Course was easy and simple to study, yet challenging when it comes to the last section of the modules. But i liked the challenge because it felt like you really do believe that we can do this. So far i am enjoying the challenge and looking forward to the Directors Course. Thank you for sharing all your expertise with me. I hopefully will be able to implement it further into the field. Lebogang Mamaregane! 13
14 I met Amour a number of years ago when I was green and fresh out of film school. She gave me a platform to develop my skills and her belief in me really built my confidence. She helped me find my feet in a very daunting industry as well as my first paid job. I attribute a large portion of my success in this industry to her. I will always value the profound impact she made on my life both as an individual and as a filmmaker. Katherine De Klerk, Cinematographer Amour is an exceptional business woman and mentor. Her passion for making films is contagious and she inspires her students to achieve their best in the various courses that she runs at the film school. I really thrived under her mentorship and learnt so much about the intricate details of film making. She believed in my ability to create and direct a short film and encouraged me to reach my goals and realize my dream of directing. Amour is an inspiration and she approaches life with such energy and passion. By looking at how she had made such a positive impact on the film making community, I felt motivated to open my own film academy for children and teenagers. Through my film academy, I hope to inspire young filmmakers much like Amour inspired me! Jennifer Witts, Film School Owner, South Africa Well, when I started this course, I didn t realize what I was getting myself into but now I am so glad I did because it was beyond my expectations and its simplicity of the lessons was amazing. Before this course, I usually wrote stories, not knowing what I was writing until the very end. But after taking this course, I have learnt so many wonderful ways to write my stories and most importantly, aside from understanding and knowing how to write, I m now growing and developing to most effective ways of communicating my ideas. So if you really want to be a seasoned scriptwriter, then going through this course is a good place to start. This course will break it down to you like a four year old. Anaze A. Omananyi, Nigeria! 14
