WEST END SHELTER FOR ANIMALS 1010 EAST MISSION BLVD. ONTARIO, CA (909) THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF CHAFFEY COMMUNITY INCORPORATED JUNE A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WINTER EDITION 2010 ALL IS CALM
2011 CALENDAR WEST END SHELTER FOR ANIMALS West End Shelter For Animals Ontario, CA The Perfect Christmas Gift for only $10! West End Animal Shelter s 12-month calendar is for sale now for only a $10 donation. The calendars will help us raise money for our Save-A-Pet Rescue Fund and future shelter/hospital. The calendar features West End Shelter dogs and cats currently awaiting adoption, or recent adoption success stories. We d like to say a special thank you to The Art Institute Inland Empire, William Vasta Photography and Chel Shotz Photography and Sir Speedy Printing, Ontario for helping us with design, photograph and print. Local businesses like Terra Vista Animal Hospital, Perry Roofing Inc., HMC Architects and Hansen & McMenomy CPAs, LLP stepped up to sponsor a month to off-set the cost of printing. You can buy the calendars now at our shelter, as well as online at through PayPal. Thank you to for the local businesses who are helping us sell them! Bad Ass Coffee: Kenyon Way, Suite 108, Rancho Cucamonga Terra Vista Animal Hospital: Baseline, Suite F, Rancho Cucamonga Majestic Trophy's : 215 N. Laurel Avenue, Ontario Euclid Pet Grooming: 1739 S Euclid Ave, Ontario Country Animal Clinic: 6691 Riverside Dr, Chino Cagle's Appliance Center: 114 S. Campus Ave, Ontario Quality Inn Ontario Airport: 514 N Vineyard Ave, Ontario Perry Design & Advertising: 9431 Haven Ave, Rancho Cucamonga Sir Speedy Printing: 1428 S. Grove Ave., Ste. A, Ontario Please check our website for updates to additional locations where you can buy a calendar. We have 1,000 calendars to sell, so if you have a business with heavy foottraffic and would like to help us sell a stack of 25-50, please call Linda at for arrangements. It s that me again where we plan for the Holidays and look toward the rst quarter of the year. For us at the Shelter, it forces us to look at budgets, new projects and new ways to raise the money to pay for things. Note that our very successful shot clinic helps us pay the bills, and the adopon of dogs and cats helps also. During this me of the year many of you send us much needed contribuons and we are thankful for your eorts. As we look now toward the rst quarter, we are stepping up our eorts to put the last piece of the puzzle in place, and that is our on-site Spay and Neuter clinic and animal hospital. This requires a dierent scope than shot clinic as it needs larger and more complete facilies and equipment. Stang requirements are greater as well as there is a need for more of a full me Veterinarian and Vet Techs. As many of you know, we have the physical space to build this facility, but the nancial requirement is prey big to make it a reality. So once again I am asking for your assistance and your ideas and suggesons for pung the money together for this project. Government money seems to be out of reach due to the economic climate, so the most logical approach would seem to be a corporate or private benefactor that would be willing to partner with us. Perhaps one of your employers or family members might have the means to help us with this next step. Please help us make inquiries. Don t hesitate to call me with your ideas and prospecve partners. The money will help build a foundaon that will insure the self-sustainability of the shelter over the long term. I hope you have a great Holiday Season and a terric New Year. Thanks for helping to make West End Shelter for Animals what it is today and what it will be in the future. Dale A. Namminga Board Of Directors
Mars Petcare employee s volunteered their time here at the shelter. They spent 4 days helping us gardening, painting and general clean-up at the shelter!! Thanks again, we appreciate it very much!! Hope to see you next year. Remember Chico... Chico our special needs Jack Russel mix featured in our Summer 2007 newsletter. Chico was adopted by a family in 2007, after a couple of weeks he was returned to us. They said he had stopped walking on his hind legs. We consulted our veterinarian, and indeed, he did have serious spinal damage. We were referred to Dr. Berry of Southern California Veterinary Referral Group in Irvine for testing. Diagnosis: Severe brusing of the spinal cord. Needed: Extensive and expensive surgery. The surgery was performed. 2 years later Chico was adopted and here is the update!! Hello, We adopted Chico in January 2009 after he spent two years at your shelter. I just thought I'd update you on Chico and attach a Fall picture. He is doing quite well and we love him so much. He is such a great addition to the family.we are grateful to have him. He enjoys sleeping in bed with us, and rolling around in the grass. Although he has some disability he still enjoys short walks. He loves giving kisses and if you start to giggle he increases his kisses even faster. He is truly loved! Kindly, Julia, Eric, Zachary and Jylienne
Special thanks to everybody that came out and supported us at the Pets and Vets car show. It was a great success and fun was had by all. A very special thank you to The Rocketts for their hard work and effort in organizing of the event. We hope to be able to work together in the future!! Here are some pictures from the event... Our 2nd annual halloween party was lots of fun!! Thank you to Abby from Clown Connection for coming to do the face painting! We also had a jumper for the kids. The best costume contest winners were Alex & Melissa. This event was great and we look forward to next year!! Alex Melissa
Southern California Edison has been very supportive to us for many years. This year we were chosen for their charitable giving fund. They also invited us to join them for employee contribution partys at the Rancho Cucamonga, West Covina and San Dimas locations. It was a good time had by all!! Shelter Needs... Canned Dog Food Canned Cat Food Bleach Cleaning Supplies Cat Litter Blankets Towels Mops Brooms Don t forget to recycle!!! support our shelter! bring us your old and used cell phones, lap tops computers, digital cameras, video cameras, mp3 players, inkjet cartridges (no toner), gps devices, radar detectors, electronic book readers, gold, silver & platinum jewelry. We would like to thank Allison Calderon also known as Taz, she is starting a new purpose. The money she wins from winning fights and competing in boxing tournaments will go to the shelter. On June 28th, Allison borrowed our boxer, Juno, she took her to the gym with her for a photo shoot to begin to advertise.
Mailbox Happy Endings... At the shelter Maggie was known as Mandy. She has stolen our hearts and our lives are better due to this addition to our family. The shelter staff was so helpful and accommodating to our interest in finding the right dog for my wife and I. Maggie has been great no accidents, sleeps through the night, loves to play, walks with us about 2 miles a day, and has made new friends in the neighborhood. Her walking buddies are Daisy and Bubba our friends pugs. Until Maggie came along Daisy did not like to go for walks and now will follow Maggie around our half mile loop. Bubba and Maggie walk side by side and will stop for Daisy to catch up. Again Maggie has become a part of our lives that we did not realize we were missing. Thank you to the West End Shelter for such a great family member!! Pete H. Ray settled in great! He ate within the 1st hour and went to the litterbox twice already. Here's a few pics of Kyle with the shelter. Our 22 month old son, Ryan, was also great with Ray! He just pets him alot and never pulled the tail like he did while visiting the shelter. Thank you! Angela & Kyle Bradley We adopted Lily, a 9-month old shepherd mix, about 6 weeks ago. As you can tell from the pictures, Lily has adapted well. She loves her walks, car rides, her squeaky toys, and playing with our 10-year-old son. Lily is in training classes and is eager to learn new commands. She is the most lovable dog, and gives the softest kisses. She protects the family and also loves to hang out with us. We couldn t have picked a better dog for our family. We love her. The Gross Family
Mailbox Happy Endings... Here are some pics of our beautiful adopted kitties, Blake and Amanda. We love them so much. They even like our german shepherd!! Thank you so much West End for our kittens!! The Boktor Family We have been thoroughly enjoying "Stimpy" since we brought him home on Tuesday, although we have changed his name to "Cooper." As promised, here are some photos we took of him in our backyard. He has a great personality, he is a real cuddler, and has the best facial expressions with his green eyes and wrinkly brow. He has been getting along with our other two dogs, and seems to be quite intelligent in his adaptation to basic training. There was no leash training required, as he just took to it right away, and we have enjoyed walking our dogs through the neighborhood. We feel blessed to have him as part of our family, and wish to thank you for the responsible way that you have handled the adoption process. Sincerely, Janice & Marty Eckstein
