3 General Manager & Director (2007 to 2011) / Managing Director (1997 to 2007) BG Group UK/Serene SpA - Italy and the UK, 1997 to 2011 Hired by start-up venture Serene (Edison/BG Group) to lead finance planning, construction, and operation of 5 new combined cycle cogeneration plants for industry consumptions (400 MW output total), later headed power business in Italy ( 300 million turnover) following full acquisition by BG. Served on Board of Directors for BG Italia Power. Built and oversaw operation of 5 new plants, implementing and maintaining the highest performance standards. Running operation in lean mode, efficiently managed plants, directing 10 staff members while overseeing 100 contract employees to produce annual net profit of 20 to 30 million. Tapped to lead start-up utility in pre-construction phase, supervised due diligence for project financing structure, worked with investors and stakeholders to meet obligations, and established contracts for stateof-the-art plants, identifying best partnerships for ongoing success. Led project management teams in coordinating concurrent construction and commissioning of all 5 cogeneration plants, delivering all results within stringent 2-year deadline. Recognizing problems midstream, regrouped and implemented contractor penalties to get construction back on track. Implemented continuous performance improvements and cost controls while creating new revenue streams, quickly bringing start-up operation to profitability with 25% rate of return (IRR). Achieved the highest standards in HSSE and asset integrity by selecting accredited contractors and leading by example to promote best environment, safety and security practices. Testament to success, limited lost time incidents during tenure to just 3 minor accidents. In final role with BG, laid groundwork (strategy and execution plans covering all aspects of start-up and operation) for 3 new merchant plants offering additional 600 MW capacity. Managing Director T.E.A. SpA, Italy, 1988 to 1997 Oversaw all operations of public utility supplying renewable energy, cogeneration and district heating in Mantua town,water, and environmental services to residential, industrial, and commercial customers. Recruited to reverse losses while improving service to customers, cut costs and added substantial new business to turn around performance, returning operation to black in 1st year of tenure. Dramatically improved company, taking it from 5 million in losses in 1987 to 10 million in net profits in 1997 while increasing turnover from 105 million to 220 million over same period. Successfully promoted investment in infrastructure to improve service to customers (with zero outages goal) while negotiating with unions to cut costs through implementation of smart cost control procedures. Established new performance standards, successfully challenging employees to meet new quality, efficiency, and effectiveness goals. Engaged and motivated staff with lead by example style. Generated 115 million in new revenue through 2 key business development initiatives. Managed highlevel interactions, including negotiating concessions with municipalities, gaining approval from land owners, and establishing joint ventures to pave the way to success. Set up deal to offer district heating to 50,000 residents of Mantua city, realizing 20 million in new revenue through careful business planning and successful marketing of program. Extended gas distribution network to reach 250,000 customers in 60% of entire Mantua province, structuring business that drove 95 million in new revenue.
