5 15. SHORT BIOGRAPHY Hailed for her musical spontaneity and technical bravura, Karolina Syrovatkova, a Czech pianist and educator is beginning to be recognized for her innovative approach to performance and pedagogy.* Robert Freeman, a former Director of the Eastman School of Music states: Her growing reputation as a performer and teacher represents the Czech Republic at the highest possible level anywhere in the world. Her vision and teaching philosophy are deeply rooted in both the pianistic lineage of European and American schools and in the well-established principles of the Alexander Technique. In addition to an active performing and teaching career, Karolina s multifaceted musical vision has led her to launch classical music series both in the US (Hallettsville, TX) and in Europe (Říčany, Czech Republic). Her musicianship and musicological research have been broadcast by Czech and US stations, such as the Czech TV, GCTV and Austin s KMFA Fortepiano Radio Series. Diverse audiences on four continents (Europe, China, North and South America) have deeply connected with Karolina s advocacy and passion for music in solo and chamber settings. 16. 6 18. LIST OF REFERENCES (please MondArt Management for contact information at Prof. Anton Nel Prof. Robert Freeman Prof. Nel has known me as a student at the Aspen Music Festival since He became my primary teacher at the University of Texas in He also co-supervised my Doctoral lecture recital document. Prof. Freeman has taught and supervised me in several outreach programs sponsored by the University of Texas at Austin. These included educational programs outside of the university and collaboration with Dr. Bamberger whose work in early education and music always fascinated me. His wealth of knowledge and insight into successfully running the Eastman School of Music for 30 years has helped me in forging a strategic plan for a music school. Prof. Clopper Almon Prof. Clopper Almon has watched my professional and personal development since 2001 where he first heard me play the Beethoven Piano Concerto in C Major with the Sewanee Summer Music Festival Orchestra. Later, he has been mentoring and supervising my studies at the University of Maryland. In the last few years, he has been closely following my professional progress both in Texas and in Europe. Prof. Guido Olivieri Prof. Martha Hilley Prof. Olivieri has taught me in several classes including the Baroque and Classical music history classes. He also coached our Baroque chamber music ensemble and later agreed to be the academic co-supervisor of my lecture recital project on Leoš Janáček s On the Overgrown Path. Prof. Hilley has been my supervisor for several years during my tenure as a teaching assistant at UT Austin. Her teaching style, knowledge and advice have been a great source of inspiration for forming my own teaching philosophy. Her class on Career Management has been essential for creating my portfolio, a website, and a plan for a music school.
