1 Annex 2 Masters of Engineering Degree The curriculum in the Master of Engineering Program is structured to provide a foundation of advanced engineering topics while allowing students flexibility to meet their specific educational objectives. The Master of Engineering requires a minimum of 30 semester hours including: Program core subjects taken by all Master of Engineering students. 2 subjects required. Discipline required subjects Track ubjects from the discipline of interest. The number of subjects varies by program; see discipline specific information on the following pages Elective subjects depth or interdisciplinary focus depending on student educational objectives. The number of subjects varies by program; see discipline specific information on the following pages. Capstone project demonstrates applications of skills and synthesis of knowledge. 1 subject required. tudents will register for the Capstone while at UC. The curriculum is meant to be fairly flexible, allowing students to pursue a broad range of interests. ome disciplines have specific subjects or a set of specific subjects that must be taken to satisfy the track requirements; other disciplines do not. The following pages indicate the required subjects or sets of subjects for the core subject area and the specific tracks in each discipline. The appropriate elective subjects are also described for each discipline. NOTE 1. The equivalent subjects from HKPU as listed in each of the tables refer to similar subjects offered in UC-MEng and HKPU-Mc and thus are mutually exclusive, meaning that if students have taken subjects which are similar, only one will count towards the UC-MEng award. 2. As the UC-MEng curriculum is fairly flexible, acceptable subjects in HKPU which can be recognized as UC-MEng Core, Track and Elective subjects as listed in the following pages are NOT exhaustive. UC and HKPU will look into the study plan proposed by individual students at the time of application and provide guidance and advice to work out a study profile which is acceptable by both institutions for fulfillment of both UC-MEng and HKPU- Mc awards. This document and others pertaining to the collaborative program can be found at Annex 2 Page 1
2 Program Core ubjects The core curriculum is required of all Master of Engineering students, regardless of which track they pursue. The core provides skills in the effective practice of engineering recognizing that for experienced practitioners, effectiveness includes technical skills, project and task management skills, and interpersonal skills. tudents are required to take 1 subject from the Project / Task Management set, and 1 subject from the Interpersonal set. These subjects can be completed at UC or by completing an equivalent HKPU subject shown below.
