5 PhD specialist course: Alzheimer s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders Alzheimer s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders present an ever-growing challenge in the current setting of world-wide aging populations. Major advances have been made within the last decades into the clinical and molecular understanding of these diseases. However, for the majority of these devastating diseases, treatment options are limited and clinicians are still faced with major diagnostic obstacles, emphasising the need for further research. The course will present a wide spectrum of research in this exciting area ranging from epidemiological, clinical, biomarker, imaging and translational research. We will present the challenges and pitfalls within the field with special emphasis on Alzheimer s disease. In this course the participants will: Get hands-on experience with the application of brain imaging modalities, cognitive testing and neuropathological methods in AD research Learn about the epidemiology, clinical course and treatment of Alzheimer s disease and other dementias Understand the neurobiology of AD Who should attend PhD-students and other researchers working with research in clinical, translational or basic sciences in neurodegenerative disorders. Participants will be expected to read relevant research articles, a list of which will be provided prior to the course. Form The course will consist of lectures in the morning and workshops in the afternoon, and will be held in English. The lecturers will be Danish and international researchers, who are conducting basic, translational and clinical research in the field of Alzheimer s disease and related disorders. Admission to PhD students from Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the rules in force. Applications from other participants will be considered after last day of enrollment.
