(3) A bachelor's degree holder who has undertaken research at a university, research institution, or any other institution for two years or more, and whose research results are considered by the GSC to demonstrate academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a master's degree holder. (4) A person who is at least 24 years of age and does not meet the above three requirements but is considered by the GSC as having academic ability equivalent or superior to that of a master s degree holder. * Please refer to the following webpage for further details regarding Qualification No.2. * Applicants with questions regarding Qualifications No. 3 or 4 should contact the GSC Office no later than 2 weeks prior to the application deadline. * An international student who has/will have completed his/her master s degree or an equivalent degree at overseas university and has/will have completed all other school education in a foreign country need apply to the International Admissions Office (IAO), Waseda University. Please contact the IAO (Tel: ) for further details. If a physical disability will require special consideration when you take the entrance examination or study at the Graduate School, please contact the GSC Office before application. If, after submission of your application, a serious illness or injury makes it difficult for you to take the entrance examination, please notify the GSC Office immediately. 3 Application Procedures Application Period June 14, 2010(Mon) June 16, 2010(Wed) Application Method Upon submitting your application documents, you will have the following two options. a) By post mail Please send all the required application documents to the GSC Office by registered mail. * You may check our shipping address at the last page of this guide. * These documents must be arrived at the GSC Office by the last day of the application period. * Outdated application may not be accepted for any reason. b) By direct submission (16th, June ONLY) Applicants are allowed to submit all the required application documents to the GSC Office by hand only on the last day of the application period (Office Hours: 10:00-16:00). Application Fee Application without payment of the application fee may never be accepted for any reason. If you are expected to obtain a GSC master's degree (not including MBA) in September 2010, the application fee for the doctorate program is exempted. If you are a MEXT scholarship student in Waseda University, please contact the Graduate School of Commerce Office (gradcom@list.waseda.jp) before application. 1. For payment of the application fee at convenience stores in Japan The application fee is 30,000 yen. Please pay the fee at convenience stores within the designated payment period. Period for payment: June 7, 2010(Mon) June 16, 2010(Wed) For payment of the application fee at convenience stores, please visit the following link from a personal computer or a mobile phone at You must first complete all the required application procedures at this webpage before you are allowed to pay at any convenience stores. For further details, please referto the Method for payment of the application fee at convenience stores in Japanin the accompanying webpage. After the payment at convenience stores, please detach the "Certificate of Payment" [receipt], ( in Japanese) from the "Entrance Exam / Screening Fee Statement"( in Japanese). Please attach the "Certificate of Payment"[receipt], ( in Japanese) to the designated space in the application form. The payment service is available everyday (24 hours), including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. However, it will begin to accept the payment of application fee at 10 a.m. on the first day of the designated payment period. And it will end for accepting it at 11 p.m. on the last day of the designated payment period. Please register the applicant's name at convenience stores even if his/her family or friends would pay the application fee in place of him/her. If you prefer to pay the application fee at a bank in Japan, you are strongly required to use the designated form

4 2. "Application for Telegraphic Transfer". Please contact the Office for further details before application. For payment of the application fee through overseas banking institutions The amount of 32,500 yen, the sum of the application fee (30,000 yen) and the handling fee (2,500 yen), should be transferred. A photocopy of the Application for the Telegraphic Transfer of Application fee must be enclosed with the rest of the application documents. Transfers should be made by Telegraphic Transfers. The application fee and application documents will not be refunded once remitted/submitted in principle. However, the application fee will be refunded to the applicants who fall under one of the following cases: 1) Applicants paid the application fee but did not submit the required application documents. 2) Applicants failed to meet the required application qualifications or submitted the application documents after the application deadline. Please contact the GSC Office(gradcom@list.waseda.jp) if you fall under these cases. 2. You may loose eligibility for screening if there is/are some error(s) on your application documents. 3. In case that an applicant is found to have made false statements, it will result in cancellation of his/her admission or dismissal from the program. In such cases, application documents, application fee, admission documents, entrance fee, tuition and other fees which are once remitted/submitted will not be returned for any reason. 4. Please notify the GSC Office immediately of any changes in your address given at the time of application.

5 Application Documents All application documents must be typed or filled in black or blue-point pen. GSC webpage provides the designated downloadable application formats of (1), (5), and (6) on the table below. Please visit the following link to get them. (5) The Summary of the Master's Thesis designated form Submit only if you have not yet completed your master's thesis at the time of application (6) Stamped and addressed envelope (7) List of previous publications and researches designated form Submit only if you have at least one previous publication and/or research (8) Copies or photocopies of not more than three major publications/research papers (9) Certificates of English proficiency Applicants whose native language is not English and plan to undertake a project research conducted in English must submit a certificate of English proficiency, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC. (10) Certificates of Japanese proficiency Foreign applicants who do not have a master's degree from a Japanese university must submit a certificate of Japanese proficiency, such as JLPT. (1) Application Form (designated form) Please refer to thelist of GSC Project Advisor and Project Research Conducted in Englishin the accompanying webpage, and find your desirable "First Choice Project Advisor" and his/her project research name. Then, write them down at the "First Choice Project Research" column. If you do not have any preferable "Second Choice Project Research", you should fill-in "None" at the column "Second Choice Project Research". At the first screening, you will answer to the question in Japanese or English. Please choose which language is

6 preferred when you write your answer and select that language at the 'language' column in the application form. You may, after enrollment, take your supervision from your supervisor in the opposite language you select at the time of application. Attach on two color photos (4cm3cm, borderless) taken within 3 months prior to the application. (Please note that three extra copies of the same picture will be required for entrance procedures.) After the payment of application feeat convenience stores, receive the "Entrance Exam / Screening Fee Statement" ( in Japanese) and please detach a "Certificate of Payment" [receipt] ( in Japanese) and attach it in the prescribed space of the application form. (2) Certificates Certificate of (Expected) Graduation Transcript Both certificates should be the original ones and written in English or Japanese. If you began your master's degree program at one university and transferred to another which then awarded you a master's degree, please submit transcripts from both universities. All courses taken while registered at a university must be included in the transcript. Applicants who have graduated from a university or a college in China are required to submit the original of their diploma and the copy of graduation certificate. NON-reissuable diploma or any other certificates which you submit as one of the application documents will be returned on the day of the first screening at the GSC Office. If you were/are a student of Waseda Univerity at the time of application, please submit a certificate which proves it. Student type and duration of study at Waseda are not in question. If you have two or more master's degrees at the time of application, please submit all graduation certificates and transcripts issued by the universities from which you graduated. (3) Research proposal for the doctorate program A copy of your research proposal for the doctorate program in Japanese or English (4,000 characters in Japanese or 1,000 words in English, written horizontally on A4 paper). The proposal should be included the following items (no specific format). *The does not supply copies of this form. 1. Applicant's name 2. First Choice Project Research 3. First Choice Project Advisor 4. Research Theme (4) Four (4) photocopies of your master's thesis or equivalent academic articles such as research/term papers in English or Japanese [Master's Thesis Format] 1. The thesis should be bound before submission. The binding can be permanent, temporary, or in a paper folder (with two holes). 2. Affix a front cover to the thesis. The front cover should contain the following items. 1) Master's Thesis Title (Subtitle optional) 2) The date in which the master's degree was/will be awarded 3) Applicant's name and name of the applicant's advisor Notes: If you have not yet completed your master's thesis at the time of application, you may submit the following

7 documents as alternatives to the master's thesis. 1) Four (4) copies of your work-in-process master's thesis 2) The Summary of the Master's Thesis (designated form) (5) The Summary of the Master's Thesis (designated form) Only if you have not yet completed your master's thesis at the time of application, please submit this form. (6) Stamped and addressed envelope *Put a 350-yen stamp in an envelope (size 120mm235mm). *Put the applicant's address and name on it. *If you live outside Japan and will submit the application documents from overseas, please contact the Graduate School of Commerce Office (gradcom@list.waseda.jp) before application. *We will send your application card with this envelope by June 21, 2010(Mon). (7) List of previous publications and researches (designated form) * Please submit only if you have at least one previous publication and/or research. * We will NOT accept this list if you can not submit any of the copy or photocopy of major publications/research papers at the time of application. (8) Copies or photocopies of not more than three major publications/research papers * Please submit only if you have at least one previous publication and/or research. * If the publications/research papers are written in the languages except for Japanese and English, their Japanese/ English translated outline should also be attached. (9) Applicants whose native language is not English and plan to undertake a project research conducted in English must submit a certificate of English proficiency, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC. * No certificate submission is required of native English speakers or applicants who have obtained a degree from an institute of higher education (university or higher) using mainly English. However, those who have completed a program in English in a non-english-speaking country are required to submit a letter proving use of English issued by their institute of higher education. (10) Foreign applicants who do not have a master's degree from a Japanese university must submit a certificate of Japanese proficiency, such as JLPT. * This does not apply to applicants who have chosen a project research conducted in English. Application Card We will send your application card by June 21, 2010(Mon). Please bring the application card at both screening days and the day of the result announcement. If the application card will not arrive by June 24, 2010(Thu), please contact the Office at gradcom@list.waseda.jp.

8 Screening (1) Timetable for screening Date Time First Screening (Written ExaminationEnglish) July 10, 2010(Sat) 10:0012:00 Second Screening (Oral Examination) July 11, 2010(Sun) 10:00 *You must answer in the language that you select at the column of "language" in the application Form. *All the applicants who have taken the first screening must take the second screening. (2) Screening Venue The venue will be announced on the first day of the screening. It will be posted on the bulletin board outside the GSC Office, Bldg. No. 11, 3F. (3) Screening Method Screening will be based upon an evaluation of the master s thesis, previous researches and the results of the first and second screenings. (4) Notes Applicants must enter the examination room 20 minutes prior to the examination beginning. Make sure that you are sitting in the correct seat by checking the number label on your desk. Place your application card beside the number label. Applicants are not allowed to enter the examination room later than 20 minutes from the start of the examination. Mobile phones must be switched off and must be kept in a bag. (Not in a pocket.) Ensure that your mobile phone does not ring during the examination. Mobile phones may not be used as a timekeeper. Watches with calculation and memory/dictionary functions are not allowed. The university does not lend or hire watches. Alarm functions and audio response systems should be switched off. Only writing materials and watches may be placed on the desk. All other belongings should be kept on the seat beside you. Do not put food and drink on the desk. Write your answers clearly using a black or blue ball-point pen. Do not use a ball-point pen that can be erased with an eraser. You may use correction tape or correction fluid. The university does not lend or hire ball-point pens or correction aids. Ear plugs are not allowed. Please ask for a desk pad should you require one. Please raise your hand if you have any questions during the examination. As a general rule, no additional question sheets or answer sheets will be distributed even if a sheet is inadvertently torn. You may not leave the room during the examination without permission. If you are found cheating during the examination, all admissions to Waseda University in this academic year will be revoked.

9 (5) Additional Notes Waseda University has provided the following guidelines so that all examinations can be properly administered and all examinees have an opportunity to perform in a fair and equitable environment. Please read the guidelines carefully and approach the examination in a serious manner. 1. Your actions may be considered dishonest if you do any of the following acts: Cheating (Glancing at a cheat sheet, reference book, or another examinee s answer sheet and gaining answers from others) During the written examination, answering a question using an instrument not allowed to be used During the written examination, touching the question booklet and answer sheet before the instruction to start the examination is given (including opening up the question booklet, starting to answer a question, and writing something on the back cover or the margins of pages) During the written examination, continuing to hold a writing instrument or answer a question without following the instruction that says, "The examination is over. Put your writing instrument on the desk and turn over your answer sheet" Providing benefits to other examinees by telling them the answers, etc. during the examination Keeping your mobile phone with you during the examination Beeping your mobile phone or watch (incoming call alert, alarm, vibration, etc.) during the examination Conducting acts that could be considered a nuisance to other examinees at an examination venue Not following instructions from examination supervisors, etc. at an examination venue Pretending to be an applicant and taking the examination for the applicant Conducting other acts impairing the fairness of the examination 2. The following responses may be taken if an applicant is suspected of committing a dishonest act. A supervisor may warn or question the applicant. The applicant may be requested to take the examination in another room. 3. In addition, the following responses may be taken if a dishonest act is identified. The applicant may not be allowed to continue taking the examination or allowed to take any other entrance examination given by Waseda University during the year. (Screening fees will not be returned.) The results of all entrance examinations taken by the applicant at Waseda University during the year may become invalid. 4. The exam environment. We will do our best to provide you with a quiet and equitable exam environment. However, please be aware of the following unavoidable conditions that may occur. Everyday noise (airplanes; motor vehicles; wind and rain; the sound of the air conditioner; coughs, sneezes and sniffles from the other examinees; the distant noise of cell phones, etc.) is sometimes unavoidable. As a general rule, no special treatment will be given to any examinee (or group of examinees) due to anyoccurrence of "everyday noise". In the event that a cell phone or wristwatch rings, vibrates, or otherwise causes a disturbance during the exam,

10 and an exam monitor can identify the particular device as the source of the disturbance, he/she will remove the device from the exam site, with or without the consent of its owner. The item will be kept at exam headquarters. While desks, chairs, air conditioning, acoustic equipment, etc., may vary between classrooms used as test sites, this will not be taken as a handicap to any examinee. If, by the actions of a certain examinee, other examinees are disturbed, the examinee causing the problem may be asked to take the exam in a different room. 5. Unforeseen problems that are beyond human control. In cases of unforeseen circumstances that are beyond human control, such as a natural disaster (e.g., typhoons, earthquakes, flooding, tsunamis) and/or accident, such as fire, power failure, and so on, measures including delaying the start of the exam or postponing the exam, etc. may be taken. However, in such an event, we will bear no responsibility for any resulting inconvenience, expense, or other personal loss that the examinee may incur. Announcement of Final Results Results will be announced on July 15, 2010(Thu) from 10:00 a.m. on the bulletin board outside the GSC Office, Bldg. No.11, 3F. No inquires about the results will be entertained over the telephone or by , etc. Results will also be posted on the following GSC webpage during the period specified below. Consent for the Treatment of Personal Data Must be filled out by the student and his/her guarantor. Certificate of Items listed on the Resident's Card (International students: Certificate of Alien Registration) Items on the card must include name, gender, date of birth, head of household, relationship to the head of household and current address. A Resident's Card with the above listed items is also acceptable. Others (2) Original Copy of "Certificate of Graduation" and "Transcript of Academic Records" (only for expected graduates at the time of application) Successful applicants who are graduates of the, Waseda University need not submit "Certificate of Graduation". Successful applicants who have already submitted them at the time of application need not resubmit. (3) Three color photographs (4cm 3cm, borderless) It should be the same as that attached to the application card.

Applicants who had entered Waseda University as a regular student and had paid the entrance fee are exempted from paying the entrance fee this time. Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree (not including MBA) from the School of Commerce or the Graduate School of Commerce are exempted from paying the Academic Society enrollment fee. Applicants with a master's degree (not including MBA) from the are exempted from paying the Student Association enrollment fee. Documents, tuition and other fees will not be returned once submitted regardless of any special circumstances on the part of the student. However, if you are forced to withdraw prior to enrollment due to unforeseen circumstances, only the 1st-term tuition fee will be subject to refund. The enrollment fee and the 1st-term tuition fee paid to another graduate school within Waseda university are transferable should you prefer to enter GSC instead of the other school. For further details, please refer to the "Entrance Procedure Guide" which will be handed out to successful applicants at the time of final result announcement.

May refer to the students' financial backgrounds whenever necessary. *Privately financed international students Doctorate Requirements and Doctorate Degree Conferral In order to complete the doctorate program, doctoral students must be enrolled in the program for more than three years with necessary research supervision, have their dissertation approved and pass the final examination. Doctoral students who complete the doctorate program will be conferred with the degree of "Doctor in Commerce, Waseda University". Privacy Policy We use personal information (address, name, date of birth, etc.) submitted at the time of application to accurately and efficiently expedite the admission process. We may also use this information to contact applicants, offer services or send information during and after their period of enrollment. We take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent leakage and misuse of personal information.
