4 Public Water Source SJSU is Public Water System (PWS) with source wells and distribution systems the operational authority is under jurisdiction of DPH Drinking Water and Cross- Control Programs SJSU Recycled Water Program operational authority is under SBWR by delegated authority under DPH 25,000 FTE population p 10 city blocks and 88 acres plus another 60 acres of Spartan Athletic Fields 52 buildings and 5,000,000 GSF
5 Overall Usage: Campus Annual Potable Water Usage is approximately 435 AF per year (142,000,000, gallons) Through conversion to Reclaimed Water and conservation we can reduce this usage by up to 45%. How it Breaks Down: Academic Usage (current) : 223 AF per year Irrigation Usage (60% complete) : 120 AF per year King (complete) : 15 AF per year Student Union (20% complete) : 17 AF per year Cogen/Steam Plant Make-up water (F) : 60 AF per year (Does not include cooling tower or south campus totals of 61 AFY)

7 Chronology Where to start. Campus has had source wells since the 1940 s or before. Main campus has (6) interties to SJWC, (3) potable, (3) RW 2000 Reclaimed Water used in Central Plant Cooling Tower 2001 Reclaimed Water at South Campus athletic fields 2003 King Library Built dual plumbed 2007 Reclaimed Water main in San Fernando by SJWC 2011 In March SJSU Connects King Library to San Fernando 2011 In September SJSU Connects Campus Irrigation 2013 Target for Steam Make-Up Feed
8 Central Plant Recycled water approved 2000 Recycled water used as make-up water for cooling towers Four-year re-certification complete it 2010, in discussion with SBWR modifications made to procedure because all pipe is above ground and connections visible. Increased effluent impacts peak discharge and fee s 2013 project will convert boiler make up with filtration and chemical treatment only
