2 MISSION STATEMENT Citipointe Christian College International exists to provide high quality English language programs emphasizing academic rigour, Christian values and the celebration of cultural diversity. The College offers a range of programs for: primary students secondary students teachers and other adult groups Those wishing to study in a Christian environment are eligible to apply for enrolment.

3 The College Citipointe Christian College International exists alongside Citipointe Christian College, a private Primary and Secondary school of over 1,700 students. Established in 2002, Citipointe International offers English language courses for overseas students, and teacher training programs for local and visiting teachers. Location The College is located in Brisbane on the eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Queensland is a popular international destination due to its climate, natural attractions and friendly people. The climate is very pleasant with winter being the dry season, and people can enjoy crisp, mild and sunny weather during June, July and August. Summer is warm and in some areas the weather is similar to South-East Asia and the South Pacific regions. The Course The Certificate IV in TESOL is a fully accredited course leading to a nationally and internationally recognized qualification. It equips candidates to teach English language anywhere in the world. The course focus is on theory and practice, providing excellent professional development for teachers and teacher trainees. Located on the campus of an English Language Teaching Centre, the course offers convenient opportunities for classroom observation of practicing TESOL teachers and other classroom learning experiences. Citipointe has been involved in teacher training since 2001 and graduates have taught English in Switzerland, Germany, Gaza, Japan, Korea, China, Cambodia and Thailand. The Certificate IV in TESOL course is conducted by highly qualified lecturers in modern, well equipped facilities. Innovation in the use of technology such as interactive whiteboards is a popular component of the course, as is the use of music to enhance English language acquisition. On our spacious garden campus, participants can visit Australian Primary and Secondary school classes, engage in professional conversations with Australian teachers, and observe a range of teaching professionals in action in their classrooms. Quality The College is an NVR Registered Training Organisation registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority under the National VET Regulator Act. The College adheres to the VET Quality Framework (VQF) and offers high quality training and assessment services. The VQF is the national set of standards which assures nationally consistent, high quality training and assessment services for the clients of Australia s vocational and training system. The course meets National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) requirements for a recognised TESOL qualification, as detailed in Section C note 2.2a of the NEAS Australia Accreditation Handbook 2008, pages Components of the Course Lectures in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Mentor Program: Participants are assigned mentors from our teaching staff Classroom Observation: Participants observe local classes Outings (optional): Weekly outings to places of cultural interest and scenic beauty Homestay: Living with an Australian family gives daily opportunities to develop English conversational skills.

4 Length of course The course is offered to groups of overseas teachers and trainee teachers as follows: Pre-course assignment work in home country 4 weeks intensive study in Brisbane Post-course assessment in home country Citipointe assessors conduct teaching practicum assessment in the participants home country Course fee per person for a group of 20: Tuition (A$360 per week x 4 weeks) Assessment Homestay (A$270 per week x 4 weeks) A$1,440 A$480* A$1,080 Homestay Placement Fee A$100 Weekly outings (A$60 per outing) (optional) A$240 Total A$3,340 *Note: Assessment costs are subject to change due to group size and increases in the cost of international travel. 5 Observation & Classroom Learning Experience Guided observation of experienced TESOL teachers as they conduct English language lessons is an important part of the course. Participants complete observation sheets, responding to a variety of set questions. They also engage in a range of classroom activities under the supervision of an experienced classroom teacher. Practice Teaching The Practice Teaching unit of the course requires hands on experience gained through involvement in classes for English language learners. However, some assessment may be conducted in a realistic simulated workplace environment where the features of a TESOL environment are reproduced. Citipointe assessors travel to the trainees home country to assess the teaching practicum in the trainees own school or university. English language requirement Applicants must demonstrate at least IELTS 6 or equivalent. Note: IELTS = International English Language Testing System. International applicants enrolling in the course in Australia are subject to Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) legislative requirements. Accommodation There are three accommodation options: Homestay accommodation is highly recommended and is available with families in our College and Church community. Living with an English-speaking family will be an advantage for those wishing to improve their English conversation skills. Limited accommodation on campus may also be available. Share accommodation nearby can be arranged on request. 6 External Review The College has agreed to participate in external monitoring, an audit process required by the relevant Government departments. This covers random quality audits, audit following complaint and audit for the purposes of re-registration. Access and equity The College seeks to meet the needs of any individual wanting to participate in the training we provide through the application of access and equity guidelines. The College will ensure that equity principles for all applicants are implemented through the fair allocation of resources and the right to equality of opportunity without discrimination. The Certificate IV in TESOL course offered through the College makes provision for all people, regardless of race, gender or belief to participate in the training offered. Quality management focus The College has a commitment to providing a quality service and a focus on continuous improvement. We value feedback from participants, staff and employers for incorporation into the future development of the course. Student services The College has sound management practices to ensure effective student service. In particular we have student service standards to ensure timely issue of assessment results and qualifications. Our quality focus is reflected in all our policies including a comprehensive Recognition of Prior Learning Policy, a fair and equitable Refund Policy, and a Grievance and Appeal Policy. Management and administration The College has policies and management strategies which ensure sound financial and administrative practices. Management guarantees the College s sound financial position and practices, and safeguards participants fees until used for the training and assessment for which the fees were paid. The College has a Refund Policy which is fair and equitable. Participant records are managed securely and confidentially and are available for participants to access on request. The College has adequate insurance policies. Training and assessment standards The College has personnel with appropriate qualifications and experience to deliver the training and facilitate the assessment relevant to the training provided. Assessment will be conducted in a way that complies with AQTF standards. Adequate facilities, equipment and training materials will be utilised to ensure the learning environment is conducive to the success of participants. Complaints and grievance policy Participants should seek to demonstrate a spirit of cooperation at all times and seek to resolve issues quickly. However, if a participant is unable to resolve an issue with another participant, the course Facilitator or the Director of the College they should approach the Principal Administrator of the College. The Principal Administrator may choose to seek the assistance of a mediator who in their opinion may be able assist with making a judgement on the matter. If the issue has still not been resolved to the participant s satisfaction they will be advised to seek independent advice on their options. Each complaint or grievance and its outcome will be dated and recorded in writing.

7 Appeals Where a participant wishes to appeal a decision regarding assessment they should first approach the Course Facilitator directly involved. If the matter is not resolved to the participant s satisfaction, the Course Facilitator will approach the College Director, who will arrange for an independent person to hear the appeal. If the Director is directly involved, the Principal Administrator will handle the appeal process. Each appellant will be given an opportunity to formally present his or her case. If the issue has still not been resolved to the participant s satisfaction she/he will be advised to seek independent advice on their options. Each appeal, its outcome and a reason for the decision will be recorded in writing and dated and the appellant will be given a copy. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Participants may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning that has taken place through formal or informal learning or experiences. Documentation will be required to support the application that may include certification, academic transcripts, study materials, assignment work, references from past employers, testimonials from clients, work samples. The onus is on candidates to provide sufficient evidence to satisfy assessors that they currently hold the relevant competencies. A Recognition of Prior Learning Guide will be supplied to participants on request. A fee may apply for this process and participants will be advised of the required fee prior to the application being processed. The College recognizes the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organization. Where a student has completed equivalent studies in other training organizations, the College can give a transfer of credit through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning. Accuracy and integrity of marketing The College ensures that its marketing and advertising is ethical, accurate and consistent with its registration. Assessment Policies & Procedures When assessment pieces have been marked the result will be given to the participant with feedback within four weeks of the assessment being submitted. All assessment pieces will be kept on file at the College. It is the participant s responsibility to keep copies of assessment pieces (other than tests) and written feedback. When a participant does not demonstrate competency on a particular piece of assessment, the Course Facilitator will advise the participant about further opportunities to demonstrate competency. Assessment Queries Any questions a participant may have relating to assessment that has taken place should be able to be resolved with reference to the completed assessment piece and written feedback given to the participant and the Facilitator s assessment summary showing results for all assessment completed. No new issues relating to individual pieces of assessment will be considered beyond a period of six months after the time that the assessment was due. For detailed information relating to appeals with respect to assessment decisions, participants should refer to the College Grievance Policy. Late submissions Participants are encouraged to submit all assessment pieces by the due date. No submissions for assessment will generally be accepted six months past the time when the assessment was due except in exceptional circumstances and by prior arrangement with the Course Facilitator.
