INIT Supports Europe s Obus-Capital with Operation Optimisation and Ticketing. Salzburg opts for an integrated solution by INIT. Salzburg AG operates the scheduled transport services in the urban region of Salzburg (Austria). Recently, the transport provider awarded an ITS contract to INIT to modernise their existing fleet management and ticketing systems. The new technology is aimed to support a project that will better coordinate private and public transport. Since mobility is a key issue Salzburg currently deals with, the new control system will generate, analyse and transfer data from the buses (Obuses) to various interfaces, so that the necessary data is available in real-time. For this project INIT will provide highly specialised hardware and software for 110 trolleys as well as for the control centre of Salzburg AG. Operations Control and Passenger Information. For Salzburg s control centre, INIT will provide an Intermodal Transport Control System (MOBILE- ITCS) with dynamic passenger information and operational statistics. Simultaneously, numerous interfaces will be added to enhance data supply, personnel and duty planning and various information systems. In addition to fleet management enhancements, INIT will equip the trolleys with the integrated onboard computer/ticket printer EVENDpc to easily handle the transport provider s ITCS and fare collection process. The onboard unit EVENDpc is Windows XP -based and will interface with the odometer and the GPS system to provide exact vehicle locations. The mobile radio interface MOBILE- MRI 3 will be added to the existing radio units for voice and data communication through the existing private mobile radio system. MOBILE- > The new system provides a better coordination with private transport. MRI 3 serves as interface between the onboard computer and the peripheral devices such as the PA amplifier, the voice radio unit and data radio unit or the passenger information displays. The vehicle data and tariff data supply will be up- and downloaded by WLAN. Integrated Ticketing. With the multi-functional onboard unit EVENDpc Salzburg AG will have a powerful ticket printer in each of their Obuses. INIT s back office system MOBILEvario will manage the tariffs of the Salzburg transport association and their in-house tariffs as well as the clearing. With MOBILEvario it is possible to define the tariff information and ticket layouts as well as to process planned and master data (e.g. tariffs and debtors) and operating data (e.g. sales transactions and operating protocols). It is also used for the driver s cash balancing. The system provides all necessary functions for a sophisticated fare management. INIT s integrated concept provides Salzburg AG with a turn-key, userfriendly and easy to service solution. The Salzburg model is futureoriented in terms of the efficient organisation of transport systems in municipalities worldwide. We are therefore very proud to be able to make a substantial contribution to this pilot project as a partner of Salzburg AG, remarked Dr Jürgen Greschner, CSO, when the contract was awarded. 4 INIT Strengthens UK Market Position. A most up-to-date solution for integrated ticketing in Europe is currently being realised in Nottingham. Dubbed as England s least car dependent city, Nottingham s public transport system is already a model to admire. The dedication (which is twinned with Karlsruhe) and effort of Nottingham does not however end there. Now INIT has received two major orders. This further investment is funding the realisation of one of Europe s most up-to-date integrated ticketing solution in Nottingham. With more than 40 million customer journeys per year, the independent bus operator trent barton operates quality bus services in Nottingham. Previously, trent barton implemented INIT`s integrated ticketing solution comprising of Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETM), validators and their innovative MANGO smartcards. The Automatic Vehicle Location (GPS, odometer and door contact) feature of the ETM works together with the refillable electronic purse: MANGO, and passenger terminals allowing for a touch-in / touch-out system. This means that passengers can use their MANGO cards as an alternative to paper tickets and cash transactions by simply waving their card to the validator for the system to > Tramlink opts for INIT s innovative ticketing solution, too. > Working with INIT allows Tramlink and trent barton to set standards in terms of service quality, customer satisfaction and innovation. automatically calculate the best fare to be charged. Ultimately, a shorter dwell time to support schedule adherence, more satisfied customers and lower operating costs could be achieved. Update for trent barton. This innovative scheme will be further enhanced with the new order where the latest ITSO Photo: enviromantic istock Certified ETM EVENDpc will be realised. Amongst many other features, one of the most prominent elements will be the capability to participate in the Greater Nottingham Real Time Passenger Information System, as well as the fact that the new EVENDpc is already EMV (Europay, Mastercard, VISA)- prepared. Ticketing system for Tramlink. The outstanding success in ticketing systems has resulted in Tramlink, the bid consortium for the existing and expansion of Nottingham s tram network, to opt for INIT`s innovative ticketing solution, too. Passengers will soon be able to use MANGO which can be topped up via cash or via chip & pin debit/credit cards on the self service ticketing vending machines located on platform. Also on the platform, a touch in/out system will be implemented using INIT`s validator PROXmobil2. 4 1/2013
INIT is providing hardware and software. INIT is providing the software for the necessary exchange of data and real-time reporting as well as 204 terminals/validators and 118 self service Ticket Vending Machines at the Tramlink stops. An initial phase will see the equipping of the existing NET line 1 then NET lines 2 and 3, once opened. INIT Ltd. will act as supplier and installer for Taylor Woodrow, part of the joint venture appointed constructor for the Nottingham tram extensions. The new major project in Nottingham permits us to expand our market position in the area of e-ticketing in Great Britain, said INIT Chief Sales Officer Dr Jürgen Greschner when the contract was awarded. Thanks to consistent development with continuous integration of new technologies, today INIT offers one of the most established modern product portfolios for ticketing, fleet management and Real Time Information systems in the market. Within the last twelve months, INIT has, among other successes, been able to secure its first major e- ticketing project in the USA with > PROXmobil2: comfortable check-in/check-out. > One of Europe s most up-to-date integrated ticketing solution will be realised in Nottingham. Sacramento. INIT`s ticketing solutions can be easily expanded to an integrated Intelligent Transportation System solution for public transportation through for example facilitating real-time information for passengers regarding bus, tram and train departures/arrivals. Jens Mullak Tel [email protected] Photo: trent barton About trent barton: trent barton is one of the leading private bus operators in the United Kingdom and is running a fleet of around 270 modern buses which services nearly 37 million passengers a year. trent barton strives to provide its customers individual and customer-focused service. About Tramlink: Tramlink is a bid consortium for the existing and expansion of Nottingham s tram network. 1/2013 5
Up-To-Date Real-Time Passenger Information Available Anytime Anywhere from 2014 Onwards. Integrated system solution allows for smooth operation in Montréal. Continued from page 1 mobile or smart phones. In addition, on-board announcements and displays will ensure that the passengers are up-to-date: an immediate service improvement. From 2014 onwards, STM passengers will have up-to-date real-time information anytime anywhere. International > More than 1900 vehicles will be equipped with INIT technology. At the core of the major contract recently awarded by Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) is the delivery of the INIT Intermodal Transport Control System MOBILE- ITCS and the real-time passenger information system MOBILE- STOPinfo with 27 dispatch work stations in two locations a primary control centre and an emergency control centre. From the INIT product range STM will utilise MOBILE-PLAN for intelligent planning, MOBILEforms for form and incident management, MOBILEsurvey for automatic route data detection, and MOBILEic, the database-supported device management system. STM will provide the virtual server environment and mass data will be transferred by WLAN. A P25 radio system set up in four different locations will be used for voice radio. The subcontractor Harris Canada Systems Inc. will supply the radio systems for INIT, the general contractor on this project. In addition, more than 1900 vehicles (standard, articulated, and mini buses as well as service vehicles and tow trucks) will be equipped with the latest INIT technology. Core of the vehicle equipment will be the COPILOTpc2 as the IT and communication platform in combination with the mobile data terminal TOUCHmon. The COPILOTpc2 also serves as the interface to the voice and data radio systems. It determines the vehicle s location, calculates the current schedule adherence, and controls the peripheral vehicle devices automatically. STM is convinced that with the ibus project their fleet management will be improved considerably. Distinctly improved services. Presently STM offers only timetable information to their passengers. With the new INIT system, passengers will be able to easily access online information about actual departure times of upcoming buses as well as have the information sent by SMS to their With the end-to-end integrated system solution the actions carried out in the ITCS are transmitted in real-time to the subsequent systems (vehicle, passenger information, etc.) and are taken into consideration accordingly. For instance, an ad hoc detour generated from the control centre will be automatically displayed on the driver display giving the bus driver turn by turn instructions on this detour by means of the built-in navigation function. As part of this ibus project strategic stops as well as the major metro stations will be equipped with passenger information displays to keep passengers continuously informed. In the future passengers will be informed in real-time on arrival times Odile Paradis, STM Senior Manager of Public Affairs enthuses. If schedules are changed or the bus is delayed for some reason, we are able to inform the passengers accordingly. State-of-the-Art Passenger Information Displays. About 90 INIT passenger information displays (PIDmatrix) are planned at the most important stops. They have excellent legibility in all lighting conditions due to their brightness adjustment allowing for clear presentation of graphics and text in various fonts and character heights. Upcoming stops are announced and displayed on the 6 1/2013
> Passengers in Montréal look forward to getting better service quality and real-time passenger information. passenger information displays onboard. Furthermore about 100 control units for traffic signal priority will be installed at intersections of selected routes. With the INIT vehicle module MONAtsp the buses can request green light priority over individual traffic another efficient solution for STM which will benefit passengers in arriving at their destinations on time. Norbert Trembacz Tel About Montréal: Founded in 1642, Montréal is now the second largest city in Canada. With 1.65 million inhabitants, it is the largest city in the province of Quebec. Montréal is dominated by the Mont Royal, a 233 meter high hill of volcanic origin from which the name of the city is derived. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is responsible for the operation of public transport within the city and in neighboring communities on the Île de Montréal. The Metro is the most important means of public transport in Montréal and consists of a 69 kilometer underground network with four lines. Every day, the Metro is used by more than 1.1 million passengers making it Canada s busiest subway. The STM bus network provides 197 day and 23 night lines which carry about 1.4 million passengers daily. Source: Wikipedia International 1/2013 7

Interesting 8 1/2013 > Dr Jürgen Greschner presented a donation of 10,000 Euro each to UNICEF and the Lebenshilfe-Stiftung Karlsruhe.
