1 7 th International IPM Symposium Program Committee Conference Call August 6, 2010 Next Call: September 2, 2010, 2:30 pm EDT / 1:30 pm CDT / 12:30 pm MDT / 11:30 am PDT. Participants: Margaret Appleby, Brenna Wanous, Dawn Gouge, Seth Dibblee, Mark Wright, Megha Parajulee, Naresh Duggal, Norm Leppla. Apologies from Annie Joseph, Lynnae Jess, Dave Clement, Elaine Wolf, Mary Kay Malinoski, Carlos Bogran, Dave Clement, Elaine Wolff. Minutes: Please send additions, omissions and edits to Dawn Gouge, dhgouge@ag.arizona.edu 1. Welcome new member: Seth Dibblee, Strategic Agricultural Initiative Coordinator, Pesticides Section, Chemicals Management Branch, Land and Chemicals Division (LC- 8J), U. S. EPA Region 5- Chicago, (312) dibblee.seth@epa.gov. 2. Plan the opening and closing sessions: Margaret provided committee members with a description of the opening and closing sessions for the past three IPM Symposia. Rather than comprehensive opening and closing sessions, the Program Committee recommends a plenary speaker for each of the conference categories: Management, Research, Outreach and Best Practices. Thus, we propose a morning and afternoon session on days 1 and 2, and a morning session on day 3. A conference welcome and opening will begin Session 1 (day 1 morning), a plenary talk on Management, Session 2 (day 1 afternoon), a plenary talk on Research, Session 3 (day 2 morning), a plenary talk on Outreach, Session 4 (day 2 afternoon) and a plenary talk on Best Practices, Session 5 (day 3 morning). There will be a brief closing session. The order of plenary talks could be changed. Days begin at 8:00 am and oral presentations end at 5:30 pm, with 15-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon, and a 1.5-hour lunch. Each day at the end of the oral presentations there will be a brainstorming session, perhaps leading to action items. Poster sessions with refreshments will be in the evenings on days 1 and 2. Naresh will provide a diagram of this proposed program. 3. Suggestion to awards committee: As well as an introductory speaker, also allow awardees to speak. 4. Orientation before the conference for session chairs: Recommendation. 5. Solicit nominations for plenary speakers: Suggestions include Tim Dennehy, Steve Owens, Abdelaziz Lagnaoui, Norm Leppla, Susan Ratcliffe, Carrie Koplinka-Loehr. 6. Sustainable Agriculture plenary/breakout session: Margaret will check with Clif Ohmart. 7. Next Steering Committee call Thursday, August 12, at 11:30 am EDT.
2 8. The draft program categories are attached. The next call will focus on reviewing the proposed program structure, time allotments and candidate plenary speakers. Committee members are to review the program categories and send Naresh comments.
