Integrated Pest Management means careful consideration of all available plant protection methods and subsequent integration of appropriate measures that discourage the development of populations of harmful organisms and keep the use of plant protection products and other forms of intervention to levels that are economically and ecologically justified and reduce or minimise risks to human health and the environment. Integrated pest management emphasises the growth of a healthy crop with the least possible disruption to agro-ecosystems and encourages natural pest control mechanisms (EU Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive)
Integrated Pest Management Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. (United States EPA)
Integrated Pest Management "IPM is a sustainable approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, physical and chemical tools in a way that minimizes economic, health, and environmental risks. (North Dakota State University)

IPM General Principles Prevention/suppression of key pests, diseases and weeds by: Variety choice Hybrids, GMO? Crop rotation, continuous wheat?? Cultivation techniques, min-till?? Fertilizer and irrigation practices Natural enemies
IPM General Principles Monitoring of harmful organisms by field observations, forecasting and early diagnosis systems Professionally qualified advisors.
IPM General Principles Application or Not of plant protection measures, based on monitoring. Scientifically sound pest threshold levels for each region, crop and climate
IPM General Principles (Annex III Dir 2009/128/EC) Sustainable biological, physical and other non-chemical methods must be preferred to chemical methods if they provide satisfactory pest control.
Integrated Pest Management General Principles The pesticides applied shall; as specific as possible for the target pest have the least side effects Versus
IPM General Principles Keep PPPs and other forms of intervention to levels that are necessary by, reduced doses, reduced application frequency, partial applications, Consider resistance management!
IPM General Principles Anti-resistance strategies should be used Cultural practices formulated product Tank mixes Spray programme & sequences
