2 PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT DIPLOMA The Diploma in Insurance and Claims Management is a practical course aimed at candidates who wish to acquire formal training in various aspects of Insurance and filing claims with Insurers. The demand of professional trained in the field of insurance has grown over a period of time especially after privatization of this sector and will continue to grow in the years to come due to vast scope for these companies to expand and exploit the rural markets in the country. The goal of this short term course is to prepare candidates to be ready to get absorbed in Non-life insurance companies in India. Keeping in view the huge current as well as potential demand for the professionally qualified manpower in this sector, BAMS has designed this course to cater to the industry ready-made, skilled and knowledgeable professionals who are in position to perform and yield results immediately on their joining. 3 1.3 ELIGIBILITY The following candidates are eligible for DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT (DICM): i. Graduates in any discipline. Students appearing for final year degree examination can also apply. 1.4 SYLLABUS DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT has following four subjects. Sr. NAME OF SUBJECT 1. Insurances 1.5 ADMISSION PROCEDURE Admissions are open throughout the year. The candidates are required to download the Enrolment Application Form from the website, fill it up and submit along with two passport size photographs and requisite enrolment fee to the Academy at Mumbai by post or courier. No admission test is held for admission into Diploma in Insurance and Claims Management (DICM). 1.6 PATTERN OF EXAMINATION The examination for the subjects prescribed, shall be conducted in comprehensive pattern written test of 2 hours for each subject. 1.7 DURATION AND TIME TABLE OF EXAMINATION 3

4 Each subject will have an examination paper for 2 hours. TIME TABLE There could be two examination papers in a day. COLOMBO DUBAI SINGAPORE 656 Serious consideration will be given to the candidate s preferred center, however in case, it is not possible for the Academy to hold examination at a particular Center due to candidates being less than 25 in number, then the nearest center shall be allotted to the candidate at the discretion of the academy. The decision of the Academy shall be final in this regard. Venue for the examinations shall be intimated to the candidates while issuing ADMIT CARDS. Any request for change in the examination center should reach the Academy at least 30 days in advance. Any Request received thereafter shall be treated as INVALID REGISTRATION AND EXAMINATION FEE Registration Fee is Rs /- is to paid through NEFT /Bank Transfer as per bank details given in the enrolment application form. Registration fee once paid is valid for TWO years. Examination Fee of Rs. 2500/- per subject is to be through NEFT /Bank Transfer as per bank details given in the examination application form. Enrolment Application Form OR Examination Application Form once submitted can not be withdrawn or altered. Enrolment Fee/Examination Fee once paid is nonrefundable PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR EXAMINATION LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION OF EXAMINATION FORM Examination form may be downloaded from the website and submitted latest by January 31 st and July 31 st for May/June and November/December examinations every year. The duly filled in examination form may be sent by post/courier to the Academy at Mumbai. 5

6 Examination Application Forms may be submitted after last date with late fee of Rs. 1500/- before two months of the respective examination RE-EXAMINATION Candidates who are unable to obtain the requisite score in each subject in the examination have to appear for the re-examination for all the subjects. Maximum numbers of attempts allowed for re-examination are THREE. Re-examination fee is Rs. 2000/- per subject ADMIT CARD Admit card/letter stating therein the details such as Name of the Candidate, Passport size photograph pasted thereon and stamped, Examination applied for, Name and address of center etc. shall be sent to the candidates by post/registered . In case, a candidate does not receive ADMIT CARD/Letter by post/registered e- mail, he/she may intimate the Academy accordingly for re-sending the same. In absence of ADMIT CARD/LETTER, the candidate shall not be allowed to enter the examination hall DISCIPLINE AND CONDUCT IN THE EXAMINATION HALL The rules are as under: - The candidates are required to maintain strict discipline in the examination hall. - Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. - If any candidate is found impersonating others or allowing others to impersonate him/her, copying, arguing with the Examination Superintendent or showing indiscipline, committing an act of misconduct 6

7 or trying to establish contact with other examinees/outsiders whatsoever the nature may be or in possession of incriminating written material/equipment shall be penalized as per the rules of Academy. - Question Papers are strictly prohibited to be taken out of the examination hall during or after the examination. If the candidate has to go out of the examination hall due to illness or any reason whatsoever, the question paper will be handed over to the examination superintendent which may be collected by him on return. - Pocket size portable battery operated calculators are allowed in the examination hall subject to the condition that such calculators should not : o o o make noise while in operation have memory for storing/retaining data after switch off have facility for inserting tape/recording/photographing mechanism into it for storing or programming data. In case any candidate is found in possession of a calculator which does not meet the above criteria, the same shall be confiscated and will be returned after examination hours PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF RULES The Academy has right to penalize a candidate who is found violating the rules given herein above, in the following manner or in the manner whatsoever the Academy deems fit: i. To cancel his/her result and declare him/her unsuccessful for the course. ii. To declare him/her unsuccessful in that particular subject examination. iii. To cancel his/her result for all examinations, he/she appeared in the past. iv. To ask him/her to leave the Examination Center at the discretion of Examination Superintendent. v. To debar/exclude him/her from appearing in any future examination vi. Any other action, the academy may deem fit at its sole discretion. The decision of the Academy shall be binding on such candidate. In case of any legal dispute in relation to the examination, center of examination, valuation of answer sheets or any matter relating to DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT whatsoever, the proceedings shall be subject to The Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996 and seat of arbitration shall be Mumbai only PASSING CRITERIA 7

8 The candidate shall be declared successful in the examination as under: Category Minimum Marks Pass 45% in each subject with an aggregate of 50% Pass with First Class Pass with Distinction 60% in aggregate and pass in all subjects i.e. not less than 45% in any subject in the first attempt 75% in aggregate and pass in all subjects i.e. not less than 45% in any subject in the first attempt Candidates not passing this examination in first attempt shall not be awarded FIRST CLASS or DISTINCTION certificates DECLARATION OF RESULT The candidates will be intimated their respective scores within 15 days of the examination VERIFICATION OF MARKS The candidates who wish to get their marks verified shall make written request after declaration of the score and shall pay a fee of Rs. 900/- (Rupees Nine Hundred)only per subject through NEFT / Bank transfer as per bank details given in the Enrolment Application Form. Such request shall reach Director of Examinations, BAMS, 7 Twin Complex-II. Opp. Marol Fire Station, Marol Naka, Andheri (East), Mumbai , within 15 days of date of declaration of the score. Second request for verification of marks is not permissible. 2.0O FAQs Q. Is there any age limit for DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT offered by BAMS? A. There is no age limit for this course. Q. What is the duration of this diploma course? A. The duration of this diploma course is six months. 8

9 The examinations are held twice a year in MAY/JUNE and NOVEMBER/DECEMBER. Q. What is the procedure for admission? Whether Admission Test is held for DICM? A. The admissions are open throughout the year. The enrolment application Form duly filled in along with proof of having remitted a sum of Rs /- through NEFT as per the bank details given in the Enrolment Application Form, is required to be sent to the Academy at Mumbai. No admission is held for Diploma in Insurance Claims Management. Q. What is the eligibility criterion for this course? A. Eligibility criteria for any Certificate/Diploma course are as under: i. Graduates in any discipline. Students appearing for final year examinations can also apply. Q. What is the medium of examination? A. Examination is conducted in English. Q. What is the type of examination for this diploma course? A. The examination shall be held in comprehensive written pattern for all the subjects. Q. Is there any difference between Diploma course and University degree? A. Yes, Diploma and certificate courses are different from University degrees. University degree is general in nature and covers vast areas besides it takes more time period to complete the same. Generally, specialization is required after a degree course in order to be employable in industry. Diploma and Certificate courses are specialized short term courses and designed to cater to the industrial need for trained, specialist, skilled and ready-made professionals in a particular area. Thus, the successful/qualified candidates are given top priority in recruitment by the companies in India. Q. Can you elaborate on the subjects covered in DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT? Where is the study material available? Whether the Academy will provide or a candidate has to buy the same from bookstores/publishers? A. The Institute shall send the course kit, reading materials and handouts to the registered candidates by post/courier within 30 days from receipt of the Enrolment Appplication Form. Q. How much preparation is required for the examination on DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT? A. The preparation required for this diploma course is 6 months. Q. What are the types of questions, duration of examination and maximum marks for each subject? A. There will be comprehensive written examination for each subject. It is designed to cover various difficulty levels, to test the knowledge, stress handling ability, conceptual grasp, arithmetic & problem solving, decision making and analytical ability besides the ability of the candidate to convert learning/theory into practice. Each subject will have a question paper of 2 hours. Q. What is the procedure for registration and payment of requisite fee for this course? A. The procedure for registration is as under: i. Submit Enrolment Application Form along with with proof of having remitted Rs /- through NEFT /Bank Transfer as per bank details given in the Enrolment Application Form and send the same addressed to Director-Distance Education, BAMS, 7, Twin Complex-II, Opp. Marol Fire Station, Andheri (East), Mumbai On receipt of enrolment duly filled in, the academy will issue Registration number and examination application form. ii. For appearing in re-examinations the candidates are required to submit examination application form before the latest date along with a fee of Rs. 1500/-per subject. 10

11 The eligible candidates shall be issued ADMIT CARD stating name of venue, address etc to reach the candidates at least two weeks before the examination. Q. What is the criterion for passing this course? A. The candidate will have to score at least 50% marks in aggregate with minimum 45% in each subject in order to be declared as PASSED. The candidate is required to score in the FIRST ATTEMPT, at least 60% in aggregate in order to be declared as PASSED WITH FIRST CLASS and at least 75% marks in aggregate with at least 45% in every subject in order to be declared as PASSED WITH DISTINCTION. Candidates not completing diploma/certificate/pg diploma in first attempt shall not be awarded FIRST CLASS or DISTINCTION certificates. Q. What if a candidate does not pass in the first attempt? In case a candidate does not pass in any subject in first attempt, he has to mandatorily appear for the re-examination for all the subjects and has to pay Rs. 2000/- re-examination fee per subject. Such candidate will be given three attempts for re-examinations. Thereafter the candidate has to re-register himself/herself with the Academy by paying an enrolment/registration fee of Rs.12900/-. Q. What is the validity period for enrolment fee once paid? A. Two years from the date of registration. Q. Is the enrolment fee once paid valid for TWO or more courses? A. NO, The enrolment fee once paid is valid for one course only for a period of two years from the date of registration. Q. What is the last date for submitting Enrolment/Examination Application forms and paying the registration fee? A. There is no last date for submitting enrolment application form. The admissions are open throughout the year. The last date for submitting the examination application form is January 31 st and July 31 st for the examinations held in May/June and November/December every year respectively. The examination application form can also be submitted after last date but before two months of the examination after payment of late fee of Rs. 1500/- 11

12 Q. What is the implication, if a candidate does not apply for examination after enrolment or applies for the examination but remains absent? A. The enrolment fee is valid for 2 years. The enrolled candidate can appear for examination any time during a period of two years from the date of registration. If the candidate remains absent for the examination, the fee paid will neither be refunded nor carried forward for future examinations. Q. At how many centers in India and abroad, are the examinations conducted by the Academy? A. The examination for Certificate/Diploma/Post-Graduate Diploma courses shall be conducted at the following 22 centers. The Academy will announce new centers in India and abroad from time to time. 13 3. SINGAPORE 656 Q. What are the chances of getting employment after completing Diploma in Insurance and Claims Management? A. The chances of getting employment in insurance sector after sincere study of the syllabus prescribed and completing this course are very bright. The contents of this course are structured and designed after taking into account the feedback from various corporate managers handling insurance matters. This course is therefore, not based on theoretical inputs but backed by very strong practical contents derived from the sector. Notwithstanding, the practical inputs will help the existing professionals in having edge over others in getting promotions in their existing companies besides achieving higher positions in the industry ISSUE OF CERTIFICATE The candidates who are declared successful in the examinations will be awarded DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE AND CLAIMS MANAGEMENT. The certificate will be issued within 30 days of the examination. They may put DICM after their names EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT 4.01 STUDY CENTERS The Academy intends to have study centers for providing coaching to desirous candidates at the following places, however if the coaching facility is not available at a center, the candidate may opt for the nearest center at his/her discretion. Coaching fee is to be paid separately to the coaching institute or the Academy. In case no study center is available in proximity the candidate has to study the prescribed books on his own and appear for the examination.
