Feliciano facilitated Members were divided into groups to provide feedback on what key items would be ideal to have on the PSHSA homepage AFFILIATES PROGRAM (OVERVIEW) H. Van hulle and H. Makansi presented (power point slides provided) o can be accessed for further information ROUNDTABLE L. Genesove provided update, items included: o Held annual Safe at Work Ontario process to develop sector plans which are published on the MoL website in July to outline enforcement and compliance initiatives Consultation process began in January Open public consultations held in Toronto and other locations, sector based Safe Work Ontario Consultations, Healthcare Sessions, Small Business, Vulnerable workers Healthcare inspectors will look at IRS, and five most serious occupational hazards Workplace Violence 2nd year initiative starting in July Visiting all the hospitals within next 3 years Comments to Safe Work Ontario will be received until March o Initiatives Ebola virus prevention Revised directive for Acute Care facilities was released 3 P a g e
4 Workplace Violence preparedness and prevention Discussion around what each organization can do to prepare was held PSHSA will forward link to webinar done on Workplace Violence o Guidance Note from JHSC has been posted on MoL website A. McCaskell o Working with other healthcare unions to address concerns with Workplace Violence in mental health facilities M. Barber, first meeting o From long term care perspective, residents behaviours are one of the biggest issues with Workplace Health and Safety D. Kempkens o Appreciated diversity of organizations around the table o Interested in Affiliate program R. Copes o Lots of work with Ebola o New President, Dr. Peter Donnelly, would like to persuade him to adapt work on Gang Violence towards Workplace violence R. Saunders o Research projects, partnering with PSHSA Leading Indicators Project Organizational Performance Metrics (OPM) and benchmarking reports E-Learning for Office Ergonomics Will be rolled out in the future Started with work done with CAMH EPIC Evaluating the implementation of EPIC at different sites, analysis in the late stages Working to streamline the process L. Holness o In the field with screen project with Acute Care hospitals regarding skin disease o Pulling key system partners together to review resources available around skin disease Developing e-learning module with PSHSA H. Van hulle o Working with OASIS and Ministry of Community and Social Services Community Care Tutorials (eight hazards shorts), to be adapted to 5 top priority hazards faced by development services agencies Developing E-learning module for front line supervisors at group home level 4 P a g e
5 o Working with Public Health Ontario on Ebola Checklist are live and will be sent out by Gloria Training for tier 1 hospitals to be provided by the emergency management branch o Board E-Learning Program To assist board members understand their accountability and liability from a health and safety perspective Action Item: Westpark may be interested to trial Board E-Learning Program when it is ready, H. Van hulle to forward further information to L. Catapano o Workplace Violence Project Investing over half a million, with financial support from Prevention branch of the ministry, on development of Toolkit 5 working groups and stakeholders across the sector are pulling together tools and resources to create components of the toolkit PSHSA working in the background: o Board governance o Senior Management commitment o Participatory approach (front line workers) OHA Conference on March 27 related to WPV o Waiting for approval on ROP submissions and innovations projects, advisory council members will be updated at the next meeting ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 12:00 p.m. SUMMARY OF ACTION ITEMS Westpark Health and Safety committee would be interested in participating in a trial of the JHSC Audit tool, L.
