1 2015 Excellence Award Application/Nomination Form Coastal Bend Society for Human Resource Management is known for their meaningful contributions to the improvement of the profession. The HR Excellence Awards provides Coastal Bend businesses the opportunity to share their successful HR efforts with their peers.

2 The Coastal Bend SHRM Excellence Awards were established to recognize outstanding practices and new ideas that result in significant contributions to the business, organization, employee, or the profession of Human Resource Management. Successful applications should focus on areas such as learning and development, talent management, change management, internal communications, employee engagement, corporate social responsibility, HR technology, Diversity and inclusion, and Small Business award. In addition, HR practitioner of the year, HR young talent of the year, and most people focused CEO. Awards are listed on pages 5 and 6 of this document. ELIGIBILITY All businesses and organizations operating in the Coastal Bend area are eligible to apply for any of the awards. APPLICATION DEADLINE All application materials must be sent electronically or postmarked no later than October 19, APPLICATION MATERIALS The complete application packet includes. Excellence Award application. Project summary. o The project summary must have a concise, descriptive title that conveys the subject of the project and does not exceed 10 words. o The project summary must be a well-organized, stand-alone document that does not reference o vendors, the geographic location, nor the applicant or business entity by name. The project summary must include the following three sections with headlines for each. Limit each section to words. Summary of idea/project. Cite measurable examples of the improvements and/or savings. How does the project affect business or employee achievement? One-page company bio. Company logo in digital format (JPEG, GIF). NOMINATE A COLLEAGUE Do you know a colleague who has made a significant contribution to the HR field through an innovative idea or by developing a successful, original practice? Nominating a colleague is a great way to share the accomplishments of a business professional you admire. 3 SELECTION PANEL Award recipients are chosen by an independent panel of educational and business professionals. The selection process is based on the applicant s ability to promote and enhance the overall effective operation of the business, organization, or the profession through the project. The selection panel will review this year s entries in October. Decisions rendered by the selection panel are final. RECIPIENTS REQUIREMENTS Award recipients may be asked to submit supplemental materials to develop the HR Excellence Award video shown at the Award Ceremony. Requested items may include photographs, videos, and written material to enhance the video. HR EXCELLENCE AWARDS CEREMONY The 2015 HR Excellence Awards will be presented at the end of year CBSHRM meeting to be held at the Holiday Inn Marina, December 3, 2015, Corpus Christi Texas. RECOGNITION HR Excellence Award recipients are recognized in the Caller Times and Texas HR Matters newsletter. PROCEEDS Proceeds from the HR Excellence Awards will go to fund the Chief Floyd Simpson Leadership Scholarship at Del Mar College and the SHRM Foundation. * The SHRM Foundation is a non-profit organization that is a catalyst for thought leadership. They offer unmatched workforce knowledge for progressive leaders, with a total focus on studying and reporting the management practices that work. 5 BEST LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY In this category, judges will be looking for those that invest effectively in the development of their people across an entire organization. Entrants should include details about the business need, what the strategy entails and how it was communicated to the workforce. MOST SUCCESSFUL CHANGE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY This category covers organizations that have completed a successful people-focused change program. Areas that will be assessed include making the business case for change, its communication, implementation and measurement. Entries can include those where external interim resources have been brought in to achieve a positive outcome and successful merger and acquisition programs. MOST EFFECTIVE INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY The communications strategy can be part of an ongoing process or related to a one-off event or development in the organization. The communications strategy/initiative must have been in place for long enough to demonstrate its success. OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT STRATEGY Judges will be looking for a well-thought out strategy linking employee engagement to the heart of the business. This can include motivation programs that have made a significant difference to an organization s productivity and performance. MOST EFFECTIVE RECRUITMENT STRATEGY Judges will be looking for evidence of innovation and bottom line contribution through enhanced recruitment and improved retention. Entries could range from one- off projects in key areas through to the implementation of new policies covering all resourcing activities. They should be presented in the form of a business case study supported by relevant metrics. BEST CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBLITY STRATEGY Judges will be looking for an organization that has embedded corporate social responsibility (CSR) throughout the organization, in particular through its people. Entrants should demonstrate the role HR has played in the strategy and execution of CSR initiatives. Judges will mark highly CSR initiatives/strategies that demonstrate a clear link between corporate strategy, community benefits and societal responsibility.

6 MOST INNOVATIVE DEPLOYMENT OF HR TECHNOLOGY Judges are looking for an organization that has used technology to move HR forward. It could be via the application of HR software and analytic systems, online recruitment or an e-learning program. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION AWARD This award recognizes an organization that has diversity and inclusion at the heart of its business, providing outstanding support and opportunities to women, people from BME backgrounds, people from the LGBTI community, disabled people and other minorities. The winner will not have a D&I strategy because it is nice thing to do; it will recognize and embrace the benefits of a truly diverse workforce. INDIVIDUAL AWARDS: Our individual awards for HR practitioner of the year and HR young talent of the year are free to enter. Members are invited to nominate a member of their team, or you are free to nominate yourself. o HR practitioner of the year is open to CHRO s, HR managers and HR business partners who are members in good standing with CBSHRM. o HR young talent of the year is open to HR practitioners with up to three years of experience who are members in good standing with CBSHRM. o Most people-focused CEO (The Chief Floyd Simpson Award) is open to all CEO's, Presidents, and buisness owners who have created an orgianzational climate for putting people first!
