Treasurer: NJ CAPE Director: Office of Education, New Jersey Catholic Conference DATE: RE: 2015 Nonpublic Teacher of the Year Program Enclosed are the application forms for the 2015 Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year Program and the necessary information for the selection of a single candidate from schools in your constituency. I ask your cooperation with the following: 1. Make copies of the application packet and disseminate them to your constituent schools as quickly as possible. Please urge your constituent groups to participate. In recent years, the pool of applicants was much smaller than it had been in the past. Remind your administrators that this year the nominations may be initiated by the chief school administrator or a peer, or the teacher may self-nominate. 2. MAKE CERTAIN THAT APPLICANTS DO NOT TYPE BEYOND THE ALLOTTED SPACE ON THE APPLICATION FORMS. 3. Stress that the completed applications must be returned to you no later than May 29, Select a finalist from the applications you receive. 5. 3 6. Consider serving on the selection panel to determine the honoree for the 2015 Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year. The panel includes the previous year s winner and about four members of CAPE. It meets twice, once to review the applications, and a second time to interview the short list and choose the honoree. 7. Please try to provide us with at least one sponsor who would make a contribution of at least $ $ This could easily be done through the vendors from whom your schools make purchases. If you have any prospects, I would be happy to send them a letter explaining the program in detail. Thank you so much for your assistance with this project. 4 NJ CAPE Council for American Private Education "To promote the interests and betterment of private/nonpublic schools within the State of New Jersey" Dear Administrator: 2015 Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year The New Jersey Chapter of the Council for American Private Education (NJ CAPE) is seeking applications for the award of 2015 Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year. As a member school of NJ CAPE, you have the privilege of submitting an application on behalf of one outstanding teacher on your faculty. All nonpublic school teachers, pre-k through 12, who are providing classroom instruction and who will continue teaching in the coming year, are eligible to participate. The successful candidate must meet the criteria listed below: o Be an exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teacher; o Be able to inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn; o Have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues; o Be poised, articulate, and able to maintain a modest schedule of appearances. PLEASE NOTE: Once again this year, nominations may be made by chief school administrators or peers, or teachers may nominate themselves. Application Procedure: 1. Required from the Chief School Administrator Nominee Background Information and Endorsement of Nominee Form. 2. Required from the Nominee Professional Background and Achievement Form, and Philosophy of Education Responses. (Please note: If a teacher has already been NJ CAPE Teacher of the Year, he/she may not be renominated. If a teacher has been a finalist in NJ CAPE Teacher of the Year, he/she may not be renominated for three years.) Please stress to the nominee that all directions must be followed completely, including using only space allotted on the forms (no submission of additional pages). The completed forms must be received by your NJ CAPE / Nonpublic School Advisory Committee contact person no later than May 29, The contact person should be from one of the organizations indicated on this letterhead. All nominations will be considered by an independent review board. The nominee chosen to receive the 2015 Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year Award will receive a monetary award and a plaque inscribed with his/her name as Nonpublic School Teacher of the Year. A separate plaque will be presented with the name and school of the honoree, to be housed in the school during the school year. The presentations will take place at the New Jersey Department of Education in Trenton in October 2015, during the meeting of the Department s Advisory Committee for Nonpublic Schools. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to provide statewide recognition for an outstanding teacher on your faculty.
