1 Curriculum Vita Tony Mutsune, Ph.D. 206 Iowa Avenue #1 Decorah, IA Phone: (563) Research Interests Current research interests include investigating how economic enterprises in nations generate sustainable competitiveness in response to the challenges and opportunities presented in a global economy. Particular attention is directed towards effective methods of identifying factors that drive competitiveness, more accurate ways of measuring competitiveness both at the micro and macro level, and identifying policies that are likely to enhance competitiveness. Research Interests are also directed at studying factors related to the development of strong financial markets in emerging economies, with a focus on measuring the impact of technological innovations and policy reforms in emerging economies. The interplay between human economy and natural ecosystems is a recent addition to research interests. Efforts are directed at identifying green building attributes that have high potential for adoption in developing economies and the likely implications for industrial activities and policies. Business Administration: Economics May, 2008 Master of Business Administration May, 2002 Bachelor Business Administration: Finance August, 2000 Ph.D. Dissertation Understanding the State of U.S. International Competitiveness: A Study of Total Factor Productivity and Trade Performance Indicators. The study explored the extent to which the emergence of persistent large trade deficits in the U.S. economy since 1980s is, (or not) a symptom of loss of international competitiveness. The study developed a framework to measure the state of U.S. international competitiveness from the perspectives of trade

2 performance (TP) indicators and total factor productivity (TFP) indicators. The proposition that TFP measurements are a more adequate framework for measuring the state of international competitiveness was tested empirically and compared to TP measurement using historical U.S. economic data. The study found that trade performance indicators alone do not give us a complete picture of the state of U.S. ability to compete internationally. Instead, the findings indicated that TFP estimates tend to give a more robust measurement of the state of U.S. competitiveness. Also, findings indicated that TFP is often driven by technological innovations and superior worker skills. Therefore the study advocated for policies that enhance the rate of technological innovations and the level of worker skills. Duties included preparation of periodic financial reports; customer service responsibilities; funds transfers processing; processing of shares transactions; preparation of government security trading reports for the Central Bank of Kenya. This position was under the supervision of the

3 company secretary. Also, briefly worked in the International Division- processed foreign exchange transactions; assisted in the daily communications process with correspondent banks overseas. June 2002 August 2002 Worked at IMS Inc. in the summer of 2002 as an intern on a project established to conduct research and develop a business plan for the company, in preparation for bidding for a logistics provider tender with Nissan-USA Motor Corporation Inc. at its new facility in Canton, MS. Duties included helping in the writing of the plan, capital equipment budgeting, and research programing. The business proposal was accepted by Nissan motors, and IMS, operating as Nissan-Autrans was contracted to provide logistics services for Nissan at its Canton, Mississippi plant.
